D-III Scores and Highlights: The stretch run and the road to the 'chip

Re: D-III Scores and Highlights: The stretch run and the road to the 'chip

Can anyone explain what the "HT" moniker stands for in the RIT-Adrian Boxscore on Colleges stats. "LL" is last lead change, "GW" is Game Winning Goals. What is "HT". Two of RIT's goals had this moniker beside it.

wow how do you knjow LL but not HT? You do follow hockey correct?

If you ridicule you could at least also answer the question. I had never seen that acronym before in a box score.

Ya I was wondering about that HT as well. Hat Trick...I get it now.

OnMAA, don't pay to much attention to Go J, He/She's a little cranky cause they have been lobbying all year about the Great Western Armada that was sailing our way...only to find out that his/her ships starting sinking right after leaving port.

One of the greatest ruse's since Barnum & Bailey left town.

really nitpicking i know, but LL is for "lasting lead" and can come on the first goal of the game...not necessarily a lead change, as that would imply the other team held the lead at one point.

semantics, i know

It would be nice if they post a synonym table somewhere in their website if they are gonna use acronyms. Does anyone know if there is one somewhere on college stats as thast is where some these not often used acronyms are being used.

I follow D1 more than D3, but even in D1 there was alot of moaning about the fact only one West team was seeded in the top 4. Turns out all the top seeds won yesterday, so final four in D1 is 3 from the East, 1 from the West.

Well, maybe now an Eastern team can win it all in D1 and perhaps a Western team (I'm looking at you, Gusties) can return the favor vis-a-vis upsetting regional dominance in D3.

HT = Hot Tally (a shot or snipe that so impressed the scorer that he/she had to tag it for its brilliance):-)
-- I mean isnt' that the derivation of a "hat trick" -- 3 goals means a tip of the hat for excellence

Re: D-III Scores and Highlights: The stretch run and the road to the 'chip

It was the number of power-plays for each squad that kept the shots close. Big difference was nearly all of Adrian's shots were from past the circles, where a ton of RIT shots were grade A's from in tight. Every goal except for Stack's second was from in tight. Michelin was not good at all for Adrian. She allowed 7 on 21 shots, with at least three that were surprising that went in, either off bad rebounds, or lack of focus... Chamberlain was as advertised, she made a few big saves when needed.

Compared to last weekend, this was completely different on both sides (RIT good, Adrian, not so much).

You're saying Michelin didn't play well but like you said all of the shots were from in tight. I noticed that 5 of the goals that went in on her were the fault of the defense or center for not picking up in front of the net. On the third goal they scored she was laying on the ground kicking out rebounds while her defense watched. Michelin played the best she could with no support in front. If you ask me clearly there is a coaching issue because if you are losing a game that badly you think you would make an attempt to switch something around to get back into the game. The coach seemed to just throw out the same players with the same minimal effort and expect different results. From what I noticed she played the same 3 lines and had one sit the bench the entire game. They must have done something to get in trouble because there is no way that playing them would have made the game any worse.

Hot Tally...Beauty.

Actually the HAT TRICK was started in the NHL circa 1940's when local Toronto haberdasher Sammy Taft who owned a tailor shop, began giving out free hats to any member of a team (home or away) that scored 3 goals in a game at Maple Leaf Gardens. This morphed over time into fans throwing their hats on the ice after a player scored the mandatory 3 goals.

Notable is the fact that Wayne Gretzky scored 50 hat tricks from 1979-1999 with 37 three goal games, 9 four goal games and 4 five goal games.... an NHL record that may never be broken.

For as good as Adrian's record was coming in and how much RIT had struggled to finish since mid-January, seeing how poor Michelin and the defense was, RIT winning 10-1 was a major surprise.

I am not knocking Adrian, but all I am saying is compared to Williams of Oswego, Hotaling of Utica, and obviously Mackrell of Plattsburgh, who did a great job keeping RIT off the board in the last month, or or even Neumann's goaltender, who played well against Plattsburgh last weekend, Michelin was not in the same ballpark. RIT had scored just 25 goals in its final 10 games of the season, then pop off for 10 in the NCAA's?

Congrats on Adrian for making the tourney, that's a great accomplishment for a fourth-year program, but in the ECAC West, they would be a 4-6 seed at best. They would be behind RIT, Platty, Elmira, and in the ballpark with Neumann, Oswego, and Utica.

Adrian's issues all go back to the coach. I've heard all kinds of things from parents/fans and even gotten an email from a player or two...eventhough they don't read the boards. A lot of time the players have enough talent to over come the coaching crappiness, but obviously not last weekend. The coach also kicks players off the team if they try to speak up, sort of like a certain coach from north central wisconsin

I personally don't think Adrian is all that great. I didn't know how Superior would be going into this year. They showed signs that they can be good in the next couple of years, but they are too young to be that good now. Lake Forest clearly lost all momentum from last year, and St Norberts could be good in the next few years as well. With the young teams in the NCHA and MIAC right now, if Gustavus doesn't win it all this year (and I don't think they will), I'll predict a west champion in the next 2 years :)

No one is really disagreeing with your statement either. Clearly River Falls and Gustavus we're the only two really good teams in the West this year. River Falls had some issues down the stretch which can probably be attributed to trying to go undefeated and all that crap. I still don't get the move of starting a rookie goalie in the most important game of the season, but it happened. I'm fairly certain if River Falls had that game back against Adrian it would never end up that way again. They had the game in control and let up. Go Gusties!

That's the general comparison I've heard as well in talking with coaches.

I would agree with that right now however I have seen a few people put their finger on the reason. The reason that they have won against good teams and lose to average teams only becomes apparent when you see them play. They are a group of talented atheletes that play a one on one game. They will only pass when it is apparent to them that they can't skate by all five players from the other team. The breakout consists of throw it up the boards and hope somebody can skate it out. The gap control by the defense is some of the worst I have ever seen. Losing the puck at either blue line is not considered a big deal. They show no signs of having any idea what the game situation is and will take needless penalties in the third period of a one goal game. They have a total lack of focus watch the turnovers. Last game one player turned the puck over 25 times in 30 touches. Why would continue to play that player -3 halfway into period 2 -4 for the game. Ok lets say that this player is an offensive weapon maybe I could understand but the odds of this kid scoring worse than getting struck by lightning. There were to other players having the same type of night and played the whole night too with similar results in plus minus and the same offensive potenial. These are good players on most nights last night was not their night and the coach had no clue that they were in trouble out there. So I guess what I am saying is yes Adrian is an albatross and will continue to be one until the coach puts some effort in teaching the game, correcting the lack of discipline and focus. And care enough to pay attention to whats happening on the ice. Or maybe she is in over her head. Whichever it is the team will be the same until the coaching situation is addressed.

It's actually "last lead" It's the last time a team takes the lead in a game. Which would the first goal in a game in which one team leads all the way.

Wow, The coach bashing here is unbelievable. Coach Lomanto has had nothing but success in her short tenure at Adrian. As well, her team has improved each year under her guidance. Let's not go crazy here with our analyzation. This isn't the NHL. There is quite a bit of talent disparity on teams. Benching a kid mid game is tough when you don't really have a ton of options. As well, I'm guessing from looking at the stats you are talking about a senior here? By the time this player/line of seniors was minus three the game was out of hand and the possibility of a comeback was unlikely. Benching them in the final game of their senior season in the NCAA tournament would be pretty heartless.

As well, I'm guessing a week ago down 3 goals to River Falls there might have been a kid or two playing poorly. No mention here of a great job of Coach sticking with players who might not have been having a great night?

Fact, Lomanto is a winner. As a player and coach at Utica her teams always won, and her team at Adrian has always won. They win despite the fact that have to play a majority of their games on the road, and with tremendously long road trips. Lomanto controls her non Conference schedule and brings the team east to play tougher opponents than out west. She clearly knows what she is doing, and she now has a Championship ring to prove it.

Perhaps instead of jumping all over Coach Lomanto who is clearly doing a tremendous job with a young program. We congratulate the young ladies from Adrian on a tremendous season. The senior class which should walk away from their experience with a ton of pride in what they accomplished over four year period and the memories of winning the O'Brien Cup. Adrian's program is now listed among a select few programs who have had the opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament.

Dogcatcher, they say a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. You clearly have a little bit of knowledge of the game of hockey. However, decisions such as who to bench, what type of power play will work a teams personnel are decisions for a coach to make. While it is clear to this fan that you have a little bit of knowledge of hockey you really have no idea what you are talking about.

Dear Abby:You obviously are distraught, and if you want to make this work, then we suggest that you both seek counseling to set it straight. Dogwatcher's know-it-all status can be sharp and irritating, especially fresh on the wounds of a hard loss, but if the first response he gets is a polemic then it will be hard to keep him in your embrace or even your realm of influence. Dogwatcher does offer an honest (if not loud) opinion which you have rebutted. It sounds like you both need to be committed, and are committed in the long term to each other and your team -- enjoy the men's performance and work together for the women to improve on what they've accomplished this year. We feel your pain, and applaud your gain.

Re: D-III Scores and Highlights: The stretch run and the road to the 'chip

I don't want to be a pain but i do not think it is right to bad talk players that play. Players do read this thread and if they see their name and negative comments about them, how do you think that makes them feel? Probably not the best. Just saying a point. Ridicule me all you want but I am just saying its pretty ridiculous that it is happening...
