Covfefe-19 The 12th Part: The Only Thing Worse Than This New Board Is TrumpVirus2020

"Both" = the same virus.

I don't know, phisiologically, if you can be infected with two strains/variants of the same virus at the same time. Perhaps one of our clinical folks might know?

It could be a lab error, as no one else is reporting it and several are pointing out methodological flaws. It could be a person who was infected with both at the same time and they mutated together, but usually mutations come from a single virus and follow a single lineage.

A new variant with the infectiousness of omicron but the severity of Delta/previous would be... bad...

Yes, it's possible to be infected with both at the same time. From the prestigious journal, NBCChicago:

"In theory, yes, it’s called a 'super-infection,'" Pablo Penaloza-MacMaster, assistant professor of microbiology-immunology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, said. “We see that with viruses like HIV, in which a person can get co-infected with two viral strains at once. In this scenario, viral recombination may occur, potentially resulting in hybrid variants. Thus, getting boosted is becoming increasingly important not only to prevent transmission, but also to mitigate further evolution of the virus by genetic recombination.”

In July, a report from researchers in Belgium highlighted a coronavirus case where a woman was infected with two variants simultaneously. Experts said at the time it was one of the first documented cases of finding two variants in the same person at the same time.
...
In January, scientists in Brazil also reported two cases of co-infection.

I can understand what Handy is saying but I'm the opposite. I would happily work 100% remote again if I could. I am sheltering in place except when at work. I can very happily live here online with friends and then in person with my wife.

I'm actually much happier than when I was expected to circulate.

But (1) I don't expect everyone to live like this, (2) I was never big on other humans, and (3) I am old enough to have everything I need. I don't have to go out of the house to find love or company. If I was alone I would risk going out.

This is me. I can't work remotely, but if I'm not at work, I'm at home. I mean, that's me pretty much normally, but I have no interest in travelling, shopping, eating out, going to a movie, anything that involves comingling with people until this is over.

I'll stay home, play my records, watch the tube, ride my bike, perfectly content.

Bear in mind that is as the number of vaccinated increases, so our percentage sick is actually dropping. In contrast, as the unvaxxed die they are more than replaced by new hospitalized unvaxxed. The virus has to work extra hard to keep getting more members of a dwindling population ill, but it has been able to because the unvaxxed are sitting ducks.

And Omicron is so friggin' contagious. The percentage of unvaccinated getting sick enough to be hospitalized or die may not be a large, but the numbers still are just by the sheer amount of people getting sick.

If I didn't know that this ******* was for real, I'd swear this was all some crazy Russian astro-turn disinformation campaign.

At this point it's 50/50 whether everything the Republicans do isn't Russian agitprop. Dump is under the oligarchs' thumb so that checks. The NRA was a Russian scam by the end, and OAN is still.

Just received our OSHA requirement from HR for Covid. Must show proof of vaccination or negative test, blah blah blah. I think the Supreme's are working on that so it may go away. Was on the phone just when I got that email with the smartest co-worker I've ever worked with. He of course is not vaccinated.

Go figure. Tried, nicely to talk about it with him and convince him why he should get vaccinated. No pushing. I doubt I convinced him of anything.

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla. How it started, April 2021: “100% effective in preventing COVID19 cases.”

How it’s going, today: “Two doses of the vaccine offers very limited protection if any. Three doses with a booster offer reasonable protection.”

Our LGU implemented an alcohol ban which is the lamest thing they could do imho. They have not gone back to requiring shields in public spaces, but masks continue to be required and now most public spaces are requiring a vax card and a contact tracing app. I am ok with all that however since cases have remained under control mostly since the pandemic began.

btw I cannot believe how many of these Sovereign Citizen/1st Amendment Auditors fucks there are on YT now who all just also happen to be anti-max Nazis who will stoop to just about anything to generate clicks for their worthless channels.

Sister tested positive at work today. Scratchy throat, slight headache. She's completely vaxxed and boosted. She works at a monster hospital out here and I'm honestly shocked it took this long.

Project Mendacia has dropped an "expose" video on Fauci authorizing supposedly "dangerous" coronavirus research, which is trending among the right-wing Twitter illiterati. For being such a left-wing platform, it's amazing they're letting it trend. ;-)

So is he a mass murderer or just a pedophile? Those are their go tos. Also high marks for "Project Mendacia." Tangentially related: Harvard sucks.

PA's largest hospital system UPMC reports that 91% of their patients that are covid positive are unvaccinated. 64.5% of the state is vaccinated, which means that 35.5% of the state acounts for 91% of Covid hospitalizations.

But please, continue to lie that vaccines don't work.

Because that s- is poison. It can affect a channel based on anything: gaming, history, cooking. One “controversy” leads to attention from the Nazis which leads to increased views from Nazis which leads to increased Nazi content.

Saw it on a Magic: the Gathering channel. Dude was a mediocre but somewhat notable content creator, got into a spat with a female cosplayer over some sexist BS and then boom! A month later he’s a full on right-wing conspiracy dude.

a.k.a. "Every day is Wednesday."

Fascists use ridiculous words or actions to draw attention to themselves. Then, when decent people are amplifying their presence by denouncing it, they circle around to the back and recruit all the people who are rubbernecking but harbor fascist tendencies or vulnerabilities.

It's how every right wing movement in history has built its membership. Make a scene; harvest the zombies. All of Right Wing media from Fox to Hate Radio to Right Wing Social Media is built around this. The owners use the crowd to suck out their money (the Medicine Show gimmick) and the demagogues use it to gain power and followers.

It always ends with the demagogues betraying the owners to expropriate that money and then, without any remaining constraint, destroying themselves and their followers, as well as the economy and many innocent lives, through their ineptitude and violence.
