Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

RPI has called a time out with about 59 seconds left. Cornell is up 2-1 thanks to a goal by K. Overguard from White.

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

Cornell wins 2-1! Cornell lead the final shots are 27-14. I thought we picked it up and finished strong in the third. Now on to Union tomorrow. Hopefully Dartmouth can hang on for the W against Clarkson. :D

You got your wish. Historic day for the big red. I now feel vindicated, as I have been predicting all year for them to win the ECAC. :)

That you did! We still need to take care of Union tomorrow but I like our chances of sealing the deal. :)

Mazotta's shutout streak was broken. It looks like prior to her four consecutive SO's that she was last scored on at the 3:13 mark of the third period against Clarkson. My cipherin' isn't always up to snuff, but it appears to me that she went approximately 285 minutes without being scored on. A remarkable achievement. Does anyone know if this a record of some kind?

Cornell up on Union 3-1 after 1. Young scored from Zorn and Martino on the PP to start things off. Rougeau then scored from Fortino and White and Karpenko got the third goal from Danforth. Shots on goal are 13 - 3.

As far as shutout streak, I'm not sure what the record is.

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

4-1 Cornell after 2. Karpenko scores from Ogilvie. Shots on goal 26-6 through 2.

Re: Cornell Big Red Women's hockey 2009-2010

Congrats to the out right ECAC champs!! 6-1 final score. A. Overguard scored from Hughes and Fortino and Jue scored from Fortino and White. Final shots were 38 - 13.

As tonight is senior your night, I want to make special note of and send a thank you to all of the seniors (Danforth, Jue, McGinty and Zorn). It has been a pleasure watching you play the last four years and I look forward to watching you lead the team into the post season!

Just a word of Caution.. (from the frozen north), we saw a picture of Cornell hoisting a trophy for the ECAC on the front page....only the Stanley Cup gets picked up..Prince of Wales trophy means zip....

Great job, good luck on the next round.

Congrats.

Given that Cornell's now won the league regular season title, I'm a little surprised they are still ranked as low as ninth....which I guess means that they will have to also win the ECAC Playoff crown to move on further.

Enjoyed listening to this interview with Doug Derraugh. Found it very interesting, especially his discussion of recruiting philosophy which starts just after the 10:00 minute mark. I'm very glad he's behind Cornell's bench.

Yikes. Thanks. I also missed Fortino and Rougeau on the ECAC All-Rookie team. I updated the original post.

It was an ECAC record according to the Ithaca Journal

Mazzotta finished third in the league in goals-against average (1.16) and fourth in save percentage (.936). She also led the league with 10 shutouts in league play and set a league record for the longest shutout streak in ECAC Hockey history, going 286 minutes, 54 seconds without allowing a goal.

I also read somewhere, though I can't remember where now, that it was the forth longest in NCAA women's history. Vetter owns two of the top three shut out streak records.

Congratulations to Big Red player Rebecca Johnston on her Gold medal. I thought she played a great game yesterday.

I'm sure MattJ liked her performance.

At about the 15:35 mark Derraugh says, "[hockey] teaches socialism..."

No wonder hockey is so Canadian. ;) (JK, I know he misspoke).

Kidding aside, considering where Cornell was when Derraugh took the helm from Mel Davidson, it begs me to ask, did the University made other changes or did the coaching change alone make that much difference?
