Colorado College versus The University of Denver (CC vs DU)

Re: Colorado College versus The University of Denver (CC vs DU)

Haha, we CC fans know that better than nearly anybody. Unless DU has some critical injuries or a serious meltdown, they will continue to be an absolute FORCE this season.
I've seen plenty of teams over my years come out shooting with both barrels only to fade down the stretch. Yes they are playing at a high level right now but it is a marathon not a sprint.

Re: Colorado College versus The University of Denver (CC vs DU)

Why does the WCHA kowtow to Gwozdecky so much? Do they pander to him because they don't won't to be the recipient of his incessant whining? (that's understandable...) But back-to-back nights of invisible "contact-to-the-head" calls is pathetic. $100 bucks says Gwozdecky was screaming (high-pitch) the words 'contact to the head' from the bench both nights before the calls were made. Also $100 bucks to anyone who can produce a (non-Photoshop'd) screen-shot of actual head contact either night.

Re: Colorado College versus The University of Denver (CC vs DU)

JS Tigers,

Could not agree with you more. DU is lights out the best team CC has faced. DU is physical, quick and disciplined. CC still played relatively well. They have some glaring holes they need to address. Namely goaltending.
I actually thought the goaltending was pretty good this weekend for CC...that's just how GOOD DU was. Howe let in one soft goal tonight in the 1st, and Thorimbert let in one last night in the second, but overall, I thought they were both pretty good in spite of the number of goals given up. Granted, they aren't the Bach, Lambert, Sanger, McElhinney, Zaba, Bachman, etc. caliber goalies that we have been so lucky to have at CC for so long, but I think they are both good, and neither of them has been the cause for a single one of our losses loss this year. For CC there are two HUGE problems in my opinion: #1 is the faceoffs. God, I miss Nick Dineen! And having Rylan out tonight helped kill us there, as well. #2 is the PK. This is the worst PK I can recall in recent memory at CC. The PK cost us at LEAST one of the Cornell games, and maybe both, and just hasn't done the job so far this season.

I think CC may be a legitimate top 4 team in the conference this year. I love our D corps (this is one of the better d-corps in the country, IMO, and the best depth at all 3 pairings that I can ever recall at CC). I love the balance when it comes to scoring, I like this team's toughness, and I like the PP. Yet DU made them look silly at times this weekend.

Re: Colorado College versus The University of Denver (CC vs DU)

That was a fun game. I'm liking Gabe Levin more and more. And just think, the Coaches only put him in there because Loney wasn't doing well, early on in the season. I can't help but wonder, what the outcome would have been if Schwartz was playing. Would it be 6-5, 6-6, 6-7... probably not; but it was clear that CC missed him. Love how the players embraced the student section at the end. They should do that after every home win.

Re: Colorado College versus The University of Denver (CC vs DU)

One funny thing I learned tonight when CCtig came over to chat after the first period is that he's retired his gold CC sweater that he's worn for the last several years. I asked him about that and he said that people told him the jersey was ugly. I, of course agreed, but then again I think all CC sweaters are ugly. Now, I collect college hockey jerseys and do have one CC jersey in my collection. I bought it at down in Springs at the Colorado Springs Swirling Toilet Arena in 2007. And the only reason I bought it was because that it commemorates their last championship and has '57 on it. I should have told him that I'd sell it to him for $1957. :D ;)

Again, preaching to the choir here. If you know our program AT ALL, don't you think a CC fan would understand that? Believe me, I want DU to fade down the stretch. But there's not one ounce of me that sees it happening this year unless they have some major injuries. And anyone who has watched them much this year is likely to agree with me about how good they are. I didn't expect it, and I don't even think most DU fans expected it, but this team is head and shoulders above everyone else in the conference right now, and I see no reason why they can't sustain it. I see two threats, but they have issues: Minnesota reads the press clippings about how talented they are, and as usual in recent years, they consistently get outworked on the ice. North Dakota is always there in the end, but they are playing the worst defense I can recall them playing in years so they have some major work to do. Both teams will likely get better, but by the time they do, DU may be far ahead of both of them.

The potential last funny thing of the evening. Ron Mexico's profile says, "ronmexico has not made any friends yet." This is not surprising after he told me FU 1 minute after I met the idiot. Nice brain and vocab, bro!

I don't step into discussions like this that often, but I have had the absolute privilege of meeting JS. The first thing that people need to know about him is that he is a Marine. And even being an army man myself, I have the utmost respect for Marines, and in particular, JS. Back to hockey. JS has been a Tiger fan for many moons. Fairly recently, a relationship to a lovely lady took him back east for a couple of years. During that time, I think JS racked up a record, especially when compared to college hockey fans that live in Colorado, of seeing the eastern teams play at those barns. I'd venture to guess that JS has seen D-I college hockey live in more barns than pretty much any WCHA based fan. And, having talked to him on the few occasions where we met in person for any length of time, he has one of the most analytical hockey minds around. For those in the WCHA that had learned to respect DU's Puck Swami over the years, JS is on that same level. Always analyzing with a keen knowledge of the game. JS is a humble man who's not going to toot his own horn, so I will. And in some prior posts on this thread, if JS says that he'll take your back if you are a DU fan at the CSWA and a few of those CC fans threaten you in any way, believe me, JS WOULD have your back. I would do the same for a CC fan at a DU game at Magness. And, he's a man that you would want to have your back! He's a man of character, calls it like he sees it and posts great analysis.

That being said, CC sucks! :D

JS, meet me at Bristol Brewery before the Saturday game in 2013. It would be my honor to buy you a beer. Cheers! :)

Wow. Much appreciated, 14ers, especially considering you are one of my favorite posters on this board. I think I have told you my dad is a 40 year retired Army veteran (helicopter pilot), so this Marine respects the hell out of you guys as well. One commonality is that the Marines and Army are the only branches of service who know which end of a weapon points where!! lol

Most of us REAL fans of CC or DU may cheer against each other, but there is a mutual respect between these two great hockey programs and most of the fans. So how 'bout you buy the first round at Bristol and I'll buy the second. Then after that we'll watch CC complete their miracle weekend sweep to retain the Gold Pan! ;)

I personally want to thank both of you for serving our great country. Very much appreciated from this North Dakota fan.

I echo what CO14ers says here. JSTigers has been here ever since I can remember. He is probably the most intelligent poster from CC and one of the best in the WCHA fan base. Also him being a military man commands the utmost respect.

On to the series.

I was considering posting some fun images and getting a bit cocky, but I decided against it. What I saw from both teams this weekend was some of the best that our game has to offer. Colorado College played with more heart and grit than I have seen in College Hockey in a long time Friday. Their comeback made for some ESPN Classic stuff. I thought they actually did play well last night, but part of me feels the also ran out of gas a bit. Falling behind in games, especially against Denver is not something you can do and expect to get a result. But, CC almost did that both nights. I think the turning point was definitely the 5 minute major, after that I think that CC just ran out of steam and just couldn't sustain the attacking hockey needed to beat a team like Denver.

I believe that both teams will be there at the end of the season. I think CC has good experience and has a lot of talented players in their line up that they will make the tournament this season.

It was a tremendous series and I believe both sides can be proud of their teams.

Thanks, Dubbie. :) And I am glad you didn't post any "fun images" because I think after last night, the scoreboard said enough.

I thought Friday night was something that, in spite of what happened last night, showed the kind of character this CC team has, and is a reason that I think they have potential for a very good season. I agree that CC didn't play badly last night for the most part. DU is just THAT good right now, and as I said last night, I think they are head and shoulders above the rest of the WCHA, and maybe even the whole country aside from BC. I also agree that CC ran out of gas. They had all the momentum in the world in the second period, and I felt like they were going to win that game with the way they were playing at that point. The bad penalty killed the momentum, not to mention took away another of our better players. DU scoring so quickly into the 3rd seemed to take the wind out of CC's sails, not to mention having to kill another 4 minutes, in which I thought CC did a fantastic job. I don't know that the final outcome would have been different if Rylan Schwartz had been playing, but I do think it would have been a closer game at least. Not just because of his scoring ability, but maybe even more importantly, faceoffs (where CC got KILLED last night). Rylan is so much more than just a scorer. He is a true hockey player in every sense of the phrase.

Again, my hat is off to DU. They absolutely handed it to what I think is a very solid CC team who is going to make some noise this year. But they are clearly not on the Pios level right now.

It is what it is. And calling CCtig retarded? That cracked my arse up given the source. Ever thought of moving to and living in a bayou in Louisiana? You might feel at home there, idiot. ;)

Re: Colorado College versus The University of Denver (CC vs DU)

How many times was the word "bro" used in this thread?

Limited vocabulary. You should have heard this guy. After 2 minutes, he was so disgruntled with us/me, that he strolled away leaving CCtig (who is a great guy) to fend for himself. Another thing apparently NOT in his vocabulary, "Hey, bro, I've got your six." I hope I never see that tool again.

He is a pain in our ***. I realize by saying this that he accomplishes his goal of getting under our skin, but it needed to be said. Maybe it's time to start an "All Things CC" thread again. That way he and BigBowelMovement can spew all the nonsense they want. As long as it's not related to hockey they will be content!!

I made it out of the weekend without my account suspended. It doesn't look like we can say the same for Old Pio.

I've gotten a lot better at not letting people or things get to me. Dealing with people who troll is much easier now. Sometimes just playing along will aggrevate your adversary.
