One joke? comment? I heard recently was basically that Miami is a private school that costs over 50k a year, so the non-football playing student body is full of rich northeastern kids who drink, go to clubs, and pick up hookers.

One claim the NCAA has is that athletes should be treated the same as their student body, meaning no extra benefits. One could argue that all Shapiro was doing was allowing the poor football players to have the same lifestyle their fellow students have.

Plus it isnt like Miami hasnt been in trouble before...it is a culture down there and has been for a long, long time.
Very few (if any) top programs have the integrity to not do these things because they are wrong. Most of them have the corporate CYA legal mentality of not doing them because they could get in trouble. But then there are a few places that seem to say "I don't care what you do, just make sure it doesn't get in the papers."

Auburn is about to win the 2011 Fulmer Cup, setting a pretty much untouchable points record in the process.

An incredible 81 points, 77 of them coming from an armed home invasion that resulted in 24 felony counts among 4 players. Well played, gentlemen.

I'm a big fan of the Mt. Everest background EDSBS gives them.

ESPN held an "interesting" round-table regarding an NCAA playoff system and I was surprised by not only how many were against anything more than a '+1' system, but also by how compelling their arguments were. Yeah, I know it was ESPN but it wasn't complete b.s. either.

Amazing how E$PN, the home of the bowls, wants to keep its franchise. What would they show if they ran out of bowls? Poker?

Seriously. Find some discussions from two years ago when Texas, Cincy, Alabama, Boise and TCU were all undefeated and how gung ho they were about all of them having a chance, and the only way to do it was a playoff.

ESPN then purchases BCS between 2009 and 2010 seasons

2010: TCU, shut up and deal with it, even though your SoS isn't much worse than Oregon's.

Introducing the new "Cy-Hawk" trophy for the Iowa-Iowa State "rivalry"

cy-hawk_trophy_top_JPG.jpg

Between this and the new Nebraska-Iowa thing, Iowa, you're officially no longer to name or create things. I personally feel this should be extended to the entire Big Ten, but it's a start. This **** makes the entire midwest looks bad. We're legends, leaders, and we like to make statues of families.

Edit: Given that this is the "Land-Grant" trophy someone made up in an effort to make it seem like Michigan State and Penn State have a rivalry, someone needs to drown whoever in the BT offices is coming up with this crap. Just stop. If it isn't at least 100 years old, it's not a rivalry in Big Ten country.

Where's the ethanol in the top trophy?

and the accountant to go over the check from the IRS from the part of the farm that's not being used at the government's behest?
