College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Timing is suspicious as SI was rumored for the past week to be releasing a new article soon on possibly more crap going on at OSU.

... sure enough, SI's George Dohrmann just tweeted, "I'm told it is likely my SI mag story will be posted at SI.com later today/tonight. Timing of Tress dec. will make sense after you read it."

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Does that mean that Pres. Gee goes, too???

Probably not now, but within the next few months I bet he will.

The fact that the compliance department at OSU knew a lot of this was going on and allowed it is the final straw. Tressel was told to fall on his sword to try and save the program because the NCAA will not be happy about that.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Its nice to see that Tressel resigned.... that being said... still punish them as if he didn't... send the message.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

On Gopherpucklive someone mentioned they should be forced to drop the stupid "the" from their name...that made me laugh :D

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

I imagine SEC teams like what they see & will be lining up to try and hire Cheaty McSweater. :D

Great timing. Do it on a Monday morning. Doesn't he know Friday is "Take out the trash" day? Preferably after 5pm.

So sorry to see him go.

Which SEC school will he wind up coaching?

He will have to serve a term in purgatory (and not E$PN). Think some 1-AA or low end FBS school. We'll see him back in the BCS pool by 2015.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

He's better than Gerry Dinardo.

"Hi. I got fired from Indiana and LSU. I'm gonna run my mouth about how a team should be successful, even though I've got about as much business talking about success as Matt Millen does working the NFL Draft."

Depending on what's in the impending SI article, Tressel might have had to go today. This thing might be a real ****bomb.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

I assume it has to be something in the SI article. It's coming out either tonight or tomorrow, and usually investigative reporters give a few hours notice on "Uh, this is what we're running with. Let us know if you want to comment" and just before it goes public, Tressel resigns? Yeah.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Urban Meyer says he is committed to another year at ESPN, so that job's taken. :p
Maybe Tressel can get a job with CBS covering the SEC so he can get more familiar with his eventual home.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

How long till stiffer penalties against OSU come out?

This might carry on for a while yet. It's certainly possibly, maybe likely, that more charges are levied against OSU. They will appear before the NCAA in August. So this is really just getting started.

Re: College Football V: Bowls Are Done; Carry On My Wayward Sons

Meyer would be dead within three years of taking the OSU job, assuming he did actually retire for his health and not because the brains of his outfit, Dan Mullen, took a job elsewhere and he was staring repeated beatings at the hands of Alabama, LSU, South Carolina and Florida State in the face with Addazio as his offensive coordinator.

I think college football is so corrupt now that someone with his stature can make enough money elsewhere to prevent him from ever entering that arena ever again.
