Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

USC really isn't that good. I could see the Gophs losing 56-42 if the offense doesn't turn the ball over.
South Dakota hangs 41 on that D and you think they can hold USC in the 50's? The Gophers might be able to score some points, but the score could be 70-35.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Have you seen USC play this year? The only thing consistent about them is taking penalties and winning by 3 points. The barely squeak by Hawaii in an offensive shoot-out followed by barely squeaking by Virginia is a defensive boring-fest.
You're willing to take the Gophers and 14 points? Because I'll give you 14 points and take USC all day long.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Va Tech threw the game to F Boise.

The BCS is currently cutting Beamer a check right now.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

No, but it's hardly what I'd call a "lock".
Lets just say that I'd pick Minnesota-Duluth to beat Minnesota right now.

edit:
Now they have radio highlights from the South Dakota radio broadcast, this should be excellent.

I still think the Chokies lose to JMU was somewhat convenient if you ask me. :D Lord knows they don't want Boise near the BCS Bowl.
FYP. :p
They went through a list of Universities from the Dakotas to try to find one that the Gophers could beat...and then decided that they should just play other schools in Minnesota, like Bemidji, UM-Morris, UM-Crookston, Mankato, Anoka-Ramsey Community College....

edit:
Also the other one that was posted earlier should have read like this:

How many batteries does it take to light up the Gophers?

Just 1 AA!

edit 2:
Predicting the spread for the USC game, they're thinking it is somewhere around 80.

If I was them, I would take Mankato off of the list, switch em with perhaps St. Cloud. Clearly they already recognize how good UMD I would say the Bulldogs would beat the Goofers by 10 easily, with Issac Odim raising this draft profile, making the Harlin Hill award a Lock for him, and maybe even make some whispers of him for the Heisman, just so that ESPN and them can say that they're looking everywhere for the best college player in the nation.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

If Minny is this bad, can Syracuse get them on the schedule? :D

They did last season...didn't work out:p

I think if the Gophers D plays like it did vs. Middle Tennessee, keeping the uninspiring Trojans under 60 is possible.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

To change the topic slightly, who is out there that MN can get to replace Brew? I don't think there is any chance he lasts past the end of November. The name that KFAN has been talking about is Mike Grant, may as well give it a try, nothing else has worked. Would UMD's coach come down to the cities and could he turn it around like he did the Duluth program?

Syracuse had that wannabe QB Paulus there and many of GRob's players. I think it would be a lot better this year.

I wonder if Don Lucia could do a better job than Minny's current coach? Couldn't hurt.

It would be worth a shot, Brewster is a decent recruiter, but a terrible coach. All-time college football wins leader John Gagliardi had a relatively successful stint as St. John's (MN) hockey coach, so the hockey-football crossover isn't unprecedented :)

I wouldn't be surprised if Vegas is looking at the USC-Minn game this way: USC will probably be winning by about 28 by the end of the 3rd, at which time they'll take their foot off the gas and allow the Gophers to make the score look somewhat respectable..

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Poll from the Strib:

How will the Gophers do against USC?

Gophers shock the world, win by more than 7: 2.7%
Gophers shock the state, win by 1-6: 2.9%
USC wins a close one by 10 or less: 3.5%
USC wins by 11-24: 15.9%
USC wins by 25+: 74.7%

I'm merely playing Vegas advocate. My actual prediction is 63-31

I think the only thing as stupid as hiring a tight ends coach that had never been a coordinator would be hiring a high school coach. That's a joke for a Big Ten program.

Same with the UMD guy. No offense, but they "turned things around" because everyone else gave up on D-2 football.

Nielson?? Maybe, just depends on what he wants out of life, he has already once retired from coaching be the AD post at UMD, only to step back into that role when their coach left to go to Southern Illinois I believe. I do believe that his kids are mostly grown, just depends if he would want to leave the comforts of a pretty sweet gig there in Duluth, to meatgrinder that is the Big Ten.
