FIU have a guy named Toronto Smith; I wonder if he's related to Onterrio Smith. :D

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

I'd like to thank Colorado for jumping into our conference. Now I know even if the divisional split takes Wazzu away, there will still be somebody we can Tee of on.

Congratulations, you made Kevin freaking Riley look All American.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Man, Washington really took it to 'Cuse tonight. As a side note, the referees should be ashamed of how bad they were, both on the field and in the replay booth. My god they killed the flow of the game.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Rutgers were very lucky to escape from FIU with a win.

No, let me rephrase that. The Rutgers defense deserved to win that game: five turnovers and two blocked punts is a pretty darn good performance from them. The offense didn't remotely deserve the win, though; I think Rutgers gained more yards from FIU penalties than from their own offense.

It was close, Rutgers offense-172, FIU penalties-126.

FAU playing a "home" game at Ford Field against MSU?

Are there a lot of FAU grads in the Detroit area???

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Watching Jim Harbaugh on the sideline last night reminded me that I don't like him.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Hey UConn won 62-0 today. :D

62-3... still too many "dropsies"... the entire game as "move at will" and Texas Southern was trying to break penalty records.

We'll have a good year... can't guarantee a win vs Vanderbilt though :p

Wouldn't have expected that game to be good. People go to SWAC games more for the bands than the football.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Things we know:

The Big East is bad. The thing is, they haven't played TOUGH BCS teams. This may bode well for my 'Cuse to get bowl eligible. Then they can lose.

The ACC FAILED their test. This winds up hurting Boise St. Va Tech losing to James Madison? REALLY? Miami at least looked somewhat respectable against Ohio St, but Florida State looked like they needed to play Samford again.

The Mountain West is pretty good. They may not have played elite teams, but they do have 4 2-0 teams. Them beating WAC teams helps any comparisons to Boise St. TCU may have a slightly better shot at the title game than Boise St. now.

That's as good as UL-Monroe playing a home game against Arkansas in Little Rock.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

#4 from Michigan...how did he earn a scholarship playing like that? Straight backpedaling with a receiver behind you? Are you kidding me? If you're gonna do that, you better be able to break up the play.
He earned a scholarship to be a wide receiver. Redshirted his freshman year, then just made the switch to safety before spring practice. And now he's starting. What does that tell you about U-M's secondary depth? Growing pains...expect them.

Ditto the punter. True freshman. He had a couple near 50 yard punts, but obviously has some consistency issues.

Field goal kickers... ugh :(

MSU and FAU apparently negotiated this to be a 2:1 series, with this year's date being in FAU's new on-campus stadium.

Problem is, FAU's stadium got delayed due to funding issues. Rather than playing the promised date at the glorified high school stadium that FAU currently uses, they agreed to play it instead at Ford Field (MSU benefits from it being a virtual home game, FAU benefits from getting home team share of the gate, which is going towards paying off the new field).

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

For purposes of this data, Notre Dame, Boise State, Utah and TCU are the "Big 4" and considered BCS opposition.

BCS Games

Code:
ACC 0	6	0.000
Big East 0	5	0.000
Big 10 5	3	0.625
Big 12 5	2	0.714
Pac-10 4	3	0.571
SEC 4	2	0.667
Big 4 4	1	0.800

Non-BCS Div-IA teams

Code:
ACC 4	0	1.000
Big East	2	1	0.667
Big 10 6	0	1.000
Big 12 12	0	1.000
Pac-10 3	1	0.750
SEC 9	0	1.000
Big 4 0	0	0.000
		36	2	0.947

Div I-AA teams

Code:
ACC 10	1	0.909
Big East	7	0	1.000
Big 10 6	1	0.857
Big 12 5	1	0.833
Pac-10 6	0	1.000
SEC 2	1	0.667
Big 4 1	0	1.000
		37	4	0.902

I'm not sure you should count that Minnesota game as a D1-AA loss for the Big Ten. South Dakota isn't even a full able to go to the Playoffs D1-AA yet. They were still D2 in 2007.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Watching Jim Harbaugh on the sideline last night reminded me that I don't like him.

If you had to sit through the Walt Harris years, you'd appreciate a coach that shows a little emotion in the game. Especially after the wind apparently knocks over the kick returner.

Overall hard not to be happy with the game last night, hard not to be happy with any 35-0 conference win. Luck was good, not great, but really in a year when people figured it would have to be all Luck all the time it was great to see an entire team effort. Running game showed some life, and the defense, not usually out strong suit, shut out an opponent in their own stadium. Now I realize UCLA isn't the top of the conference, but still in the first real game of the season (i.e. not Sac St) that's a good way to hit the ground running, especially away and in a stadium we hadn't won in since 1996. Also gotta be good for recruiting to blow out an opponent in our LA trip for the second year in a row.

Next week is a rematch against Wake Forest, but unlike last year the WF coach doesn't have ACC refs to spend the entire pregame fellating.

At least he's not Greg Robinson. :D

The Va Tech loss to James Madison hurts Boise just as much as it did to Tech. I wonder if the BCS honks told VT to "take the day off?" They gotta protect that B.S. Championship Game. :D

FYP.

Re: College Football II: The BCS hits the Fan

Nah, they call 'em the Chokies for a reason.

It was a perfect storm. Lose a complete heartbreaker that would have vaulted you into BCS consideration in week one, have a short week then play not only one of the better FCS teams, but an FCS team 2 hours up the road that can make their entire season by beating you. Not the best timing.

Still no excuse for VT. I'm just saying it isn't a big surprise.
