College Football 2022: “Here’s a twenty, bury two.”

This is why the original Bowl system was just better overall for everyone. The arguments about who is actually number one were way more entertaining than that abomination of a football game last night.

I agree. Same with NDSU. They didn't belong in that title game either. Should have FCS bowls instead.

The playoff system is fine. It'll be better when more teams are allowed in.

How many Super Bowls have been complete duds? A lot. But there have been a lot of great ones too. It's not like there weren't a ton of bowl games that sucked. We still see that.

The SEC owns college football. It plays at a level the Big 10 could only dream of. It's an abomination.

So gambling has jumped the shark. As I watch ESPN this morning, the odds of winning the 2023 Heisman are out. Seriously? What a waste of a bet at this point.

As bad as the transfer portal and NIL is- the worst thing is gambling and it's massive expansion over the last few years. Someone is going to get shot for it someday.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you're not going to have to wait to hear about anyone getting shot over gambling. That boat sailed a long time ago.

So should we just accept and overlook the massive expansion of betting? Not sure what you are trying to get at. The next shooting is not a problem since it's happened already?

Sports betting/gambling is a vice. It's like drinking, smoking, weed, or a variety of other vices.

Different societies approach vices in different ways. In the US, we are presently in an era of expansion.

Like all vices, if used in moderation they are relatively harmless. If used excessively, they are harmful.

Have people been killed over gambling in the past, like other vices? Absolutely. Will it happen again in the future? Absolutely. Does that make it ok? Of course not.

The law will have to be used to try to limit criminal activity associated with this vice, just like it is used for other vices.

The law? That's fucking laughable. We're defunding the IRS and the FBI as we speak. We can't even hire enough law enforcement for our southern border.

We can't even prosecute an actual Insurrection.

There is no law.

So... more less-qualified teams will fix a team getting blown out?

Does anyone else have zero interest in tonight? I can't think of an NC$$ title game that has me as utterly without desire to watch. 1999 (FSU-VaTech) was probably the closest.

The last title game I watched was Texas-USC. My Tivo (remember those?) stopped recording after the last USC score and didn't include the final drive of the game...

@CFBNerds

This is why we kept beating the drum against playoff expansion. This idea of March Madness runs in college football is just totally disconnected from this sport. Champions really ARE almost predetermined based on talent. TCU could play Georgia 20 times and never win here.

Your "Cinderella" will be a 2-loss Bama destroying TCU in round 1, rendering the regular season almost meaningless and crushing the small programs forever.

So many missed the point, which is that the tiers in CFB are real. Adding 17/18 UCF wouldn’t have made a better playoff. Expansion only does two things:
- allows mulligans for the rare 2 loss elite, rendering the regular season trivial
- creates blowouts from autobid tier 2 teams

Never heard of these guys, but I'm starting to see their point of view. Stephen Curry can get to the Elite 8 with Davidson because you only need 1 superstar and a hot hand on the court one weekend. Doesn't work in football. If you want to fix the talent gap, cut scholarships.

Recombine FCS and FBS, add schools to bring them to 264. Have 8 rounds. Your season lasts only as long as you win.

The FA Cup.

Just think of all the class time the players will catch up on.

LOL.

No, what will happen is that you will more likely get the two best teams in the championship game.

You'll get #1 Georgia stomping #8 Penn St.
You'll get #7 LSU beating #2 TCU
You'll get #6 Alabama drubbing #3 Michigan
You'll get #4 OSU beating #5 Clemson.

Then you'll get Georgia beating OSU in a good game, like we had in the semi's this year, and a good game between LSU and Alabama, before you get to the inevitable final.

No, have as many consolation brackets as you need to rank the teams all the way from #1 to #256. I want to see Cornell play MTSU in week 5 to see who gets to the #145-#160 mini-bracket.
