College Football 2021: Cash is King

And Michigan beat the MAC champion Northern Illinois. Exactly which league champion did Alabama beat this season? ;-)

Also, if you want to use Common Opponents, WMU* beat the ACC Champion, and MAC Champion. *but finished last in the fucking MAC West, because reasons.

You'll note that I didn't bring up Southern Miss that Bama also played. At least they are the local sub conference. Just to add to that.

You shouldn't count a win against a team. I don't disagree with you that the SEC often schedules "bye" teams prior to rivalry games, but you shouldn't count a win against a team. IMO, Alabama has the better wins, and when teams are effectively tied, that should be the tiebreaker.

Maybe, but at the same time people can't brag so very much how awesome the SEC schedule is when most of them schedule an extra bye against D1AA teams or some very sub par D1A teams.

Part of the reason the SEC has such a great non conference record is the patsy's they play. The fact they also do that going into a major weekend, when the rest of the conferences finish the non conference schedule in Sept also puffs up their "allure."

It's great that teams like NMSU and Idaho get a lot of money out of it, but most of the teams do literally nothing with all of that money.

The way I look at it is every team gets to schedule Cupcake U. and "LSOTP" and the majority of those teams play them early. Before we knew they were gonna suck Alabama played (14) Miami and (11) Florida before week 3. Last year Georgia played a 7,14 and a 2 before week 4.
I've always thought it was strange the SEC was playing one of their games against the "we're only here for a payday" teams at the end of the year but I'm guessing there's nothing in the rule book that states when you have to play them.

Florida is an SEC game, and they are out, Miami sucked this year, so neither of those early games really mean anything.

I know there are no rules of when games are scheduled, but compare Bama November vs. Michigan November, and I have a tough time making them near the same, and since this is about the best teams NOW.... well..

One of these years, we need to schedule a cruise to go to that Bahama Bowl game. Just to say we went to a football game there. We've been to the BB tournament there a couple of times to see Michigan play over T-Giving.

Some decent bowl games. Although it's kind of too bad that Iowa didn't qualify for one of the big bowls, so that the B1G runner up could play Utah. On the other hand, at least it's B1G v P12.

I really wonder how much longer there will be a bowl game in Boise. If that were indoors, it would not be so bad- skiing nearby and a bowl game. But it's outside, and it's been REALLY cold before. My family went to the last bowl game for my Vandals, and they almost froze to death. And the only team left that would actually draw fans is Bozo State. It's a lose, lose, lose bowl game (team 1, team 2, and stadium).

Almost everyone in the MAC hates that bowl with a passion. At least Detroit is indoors for visitors and nearby for MAC schools.

They should- the one game I went to was 2009, Idaho V BG. Idaho being the other team than BSU that can fill the stadium. There were a handful of people form Ohio at the game. Thankfully for us, the weather wasn't that bad.

The year that it was REALLY cold, the MAC team was sliding all over the pathetic field, as it was super iced over on the painted areas. Thankfully, Idaho was able to hold onto a big lead. My Vandals has a 3-0 record, which will never change, at that Bowl.

If you have a stupid sounding company name, you shouldn't be allowed to sponsor a bowl. Or at least, it should not be the actual name of the bowl game.

I'm too lazy to re-do the analysis, but I did it a few years ago and the SEC actually overperforms its (allegedly inflated) ratings in Bowl Games. Of course it would be more exciting for us fans if they played better non-conference competition, but beating lousy teams does not prove that you are lousy. It means that your quality is less well demonstrated and therefore less well known heading into the Bowl Games - and maybe you are healthier, too? Whatever the reason, when the chips are down, the fact is that the SEC has delivered - and has frequently overdelivered.

Seems like it does matter for long term heath, on average, to have an easy game near the end of the season. And it also helps very much with depth, giving the second and third teams a lot of late season playing time.

But, hey, it makes for something to argue about.
