I think the committee will say the overall strength of big ten outweighs what washington did. Rather than just put ohio state in and not the conference champion, this will be their cop out. Hope i am wrong.

OSU's "punishment" for not being a conference champ is to play Alabama 1st.

We either get into the playoffs (regardless of the result, that's the best for our program) or we avoid an Alabama whooping and likely go to Pasadena as a result. Win win, I say.

Can? Sure. Will? Who knows. Once the B1G champs are spoken for (lets say the winner gets into the playoffs), then the Rose Bowl can choose anyone they want to play. Same for the P12 champs.
So it could be anyone.
As far as I know, the power 5 champ bowls are all that way- they will take the champion unless the playoffs take them, then it's open to anyone. Though it's pretty common to get the traditional teams in there- like Iowa going last year when MSU was the B1G champs. So I would say that PSU and UM are the leading B1G teams to go- Wisconsin is more likely to go to the championship if they win than PSU, as I see it. Other wise, it's a choice of 3 B1G teams.

Traditionally the Rose Bowl would go to the "second place" B1G team was going to a playoff (or previously, BCS title game). The rest of the bowls usually go by some sort of ranking system, with the Outback Bowl getting the #2 (or #3 in the case of a BCS/Playoff participant, etc.) and the rest of the bowls being seeded, so to speak.

Or if there are some other weird rules that have come into play like requiring them to take a non-traditional team once every five years or some such crap.

Agreed, the committee is banking on Colorado or Virginia Tech to bail them out of the Big Ten mess. Of course if they both win by a combined 50 points they're screwed. And I'll be happy.

To me, your second scenario is more likely. Unless there's a lot of calamity, I find it not likely that the B1G champ goes. Clemson and Washington would both have to lose. And even with that, it's not that likely that Pedo state would jump that much, as I see it.
