But yes they can leave at any time, just like the rest of us.

Gophers giving football coach Tim Brewster a contract extension
By Marcus R. Fuller

Updated: 12/27/2009 06:18:40 PM CST

University of Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi said on the radio this morning that he would offer Gophers football coach Tim Brewster a contract extension.

Maturi, who was on the WCCO 830 Sports Huddle radio show today, said Brewster's agent had to meet with attorneys from the university to work out the details. Maturi said the extension would be offered after the New Year. He didn't say how long the extension would be.

Brewster, who has a 14-23 overall record and 6-18 Big Ten Conference record in three seasons at Minnesota, has two years left on his initial five-year contract. Maturi said before that he expected Brewster back next season, but didn't previously confirm talks were underway about an extension.

The Gophers (6-6) are in Phoenix preparing to play New Year's Eve in the Insight Bowl against Iowa State.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

Wow, I wish I could suck at my job like Brewster and still get offered more money.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

Who can blame Maturi, I hear the Brewster to Florida rumors have substance.  :D

Why is he going to Florida? The Gophers are in Arizona. Is he lost?

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

His heart won't "get better" with a season off and the job won't be any more stressful a year from now. They have 6 days of practice and then it turns to recruiting and spring practice. They don't become Maytag repairmen but aside from recruiting travel, the job becomes significantly less stressful over the next few months.

Color me suspicious...

I hope he isn't getting a raise, just an extension of his university funded employment benefits.

Re: College Football 2009: Where Championships are won by a majority vote

Apparently not when you coach football in Minnesota. Its happened at the NFL and NCAA level....

If they were good at coaching, they wouldn't still be stuck coaching in Minnesota!

Two days after National Signing day, new medical information will appear that means that Meyer can never return to coaching. In about 6 hours last night, half a dozen Gator commits tweeted/facebooked about being ****ed or considering reopening their recruiting.

Because quality coaches were beating down the door to Madison before Barry Alavarez?

Nope, nor after.

My point was that most coaches who were truly successful at MN would use it as a stepping stone to a more (recently) prestigious program if given a chance.

Probably, but if UW could hang onto Alvarez and Iowa Ferentz as long as they did/have I see no reason why UM can't given the new stadium.

Why would UM get a new stadium. The Big House is one of the premiere stadiums in the country on any level, and is definitely the biggest.

Well placed sarcasm sir. Nicely done. Good to see Michigan fans still have it after the two year running debacle.
