College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Technically they handled the end of the UW-UNC game correctly, but they maybe need an intent to blow the whistle rule or something like hockey. UW lost .7 seconds because of the delay, which is a pretty brutal reaction time for that situation. Of course, it's hard to feel too sorry for them when their play with 5 seconds left was a half-court shot with the offhand.

Also, who looks like they want to be on TV less: that director of officiating guy or Charles Barkley? I get that Sir Charles is a big name but he's just embarrassing himself because he has absolutely nothing to add. The other NBA guys aren't good either, but at least they're trying.

My bracket is in shambles as expected. I do have 3 Final Four teams (Kansas, Florida, Duke) left, so that is a saving grace.

Reaction time is an explanation for the initial call and the loss of .7 seconds, but I feel like if they looked at replay, as they are obligated to do if asked, reaction time goes out the window. In every other replay situation these past few weeks, there's been no talk of reaction time or anything like that, simply officials looking at the clock.

More to the point, Nebraska got hosed by Texas in the Big XII title game in football 2 years ago on the same thing. Using reaction time = game over. On replay = 1 second left.

Different sport, but same "error."

I tend to say you don't revert the clock simply because you have replay, as then you're treating the final minute way differently than the rest of the game - those tenths of second come off the clock for every other whistle during the game. In other words, I think hoops got it right, football wrong.

My title game is done. BYU is my only remaining Final Four team. UConn and Kansas are the only other two alive for the Elite 8.

I'm probably toast. :(

Yes, but that's my point. If you think they got it right yesterday, fantastic. But that means that you also must think that the officials had been getting it wrong for the past 3 days where they didn't apply a reaction time standard. So at best, the officiating in that game yesterday was wildly inconsistent.

oofda... I still have my final four intact. UNC, Duke, Florida, and Kansas. UNC was a value pick intended to gain points in the event OSU goes down. Had to distance myself from the pack and that's the make or break team. UNC goes to the final four, I should be in the top three easily.

My elite eight is still intact sans Pitt and Notre Dame. I've been lucky.

After last night, Antonio Jardine is dead to me.

He wasn't earlier in the season?

He goes off and makes a great play some times and then usually goes off and makes a boneheaded play that cancels it out the next trip down the floor. Way too inconsistent.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

I only got half of the Sweet 16, but could still get 6 of the Elite 8. My only hope is for OSU to lose their next game so everyone else's picks suck too. My highest potential finish is still listed as 2 (not sure what has to happen). I just want to avoid finishing dead last, because then you have to pay for next year's software. :)

My value pick was K-State. That was looking dandy for about two hours...

I also had Washington in the Elite Eight. Of course the one time I need them to win they forget how to inbound a pass.

So right now even if everything goes perfect for me I can only finish 2nd at best.

I haven't looked at my brackets. I was bored with the only bouncyball I watch all year 2 minutes into the first game.

NCAA admits error on the backcourt call in the Marquette-Syracuse game. Not that it makes much difference now.

If you had VCU vs Butler in the Final Four you're lying.
