College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Is this really Illinois stepping up in a big game? Huh. Good tourney for the Big 10 so far.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Michigan set two pretty interesting records today. Biggest margin of victory in an 8-9 match-up, and first team to ever win an NCAA tournament without making a single free throw.

Illinois could really screw a lot of people over if they play up to their potential against Kansas.

That final block for Arizona was clean, but at that point, I was almost hoping they'd lose just because they played the final minute of that game like they'd never run an inbounds play in their entire lives.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

It feels wrong to complain about being able to view all games online for free, but I'd like it if the scoreboard that CBS has above the video was synched with what's on my screen instead of being a bit ahead (rather, my video feed is probably a little behind), as it sort of spoils what's going to happen next in close games. Though I've found I can scroll the scores so the current game is off of the screen.

If I fall more then a minute of game time behind, I just flip between two games and it jumps that game back to "live"

My best bracket has 12 right. But that also has Memphis, Oakland, VCU, Marquette, and Florida St winning as double digit seeds. :eek

Survived that thanks to VCU, Marquette, and FSU. Finished with 25 - 3 back of the leaders in my pool so far. Down 2 S16 teams though. Key games for me - Kentucky over WVa and BYU over Gonzaga (my other 2 brackets have the Zags). A Moorehead St win would minimize my loss of Louisville.

I guess Richmond wasn't in the mood for Morehead. :D

Butler-Pitt is the greatest game in the tournament so far.

Butler went up by 1 with two seconds left on a lay-in. Then they ran into one of the Pitt guards at halfcourt with 1.2 seconds left. After making the first, the Pitt guard missed the second and Butler got the rebound. For some reason, one of the Pitt players decides it's a good idea to grab the arm of the rebounder, so a foul is called there. Butler makes 1 of 2 and wins it 71-70.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Wow I actually predicted an upset correctly with Butler over Pitt

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

UNC and Duke escape in Charlotte by a combined five points.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

I'm very interested in hearing the final analysis from the head of officials on the UNC-Washington ending. Romar claimed he and his staff asked the officials to look at they clock and that they did so. I just can't see how that's possible with the clock still reading 0.5.

CBS did an interview with someone, have no idea what his title is, who says the referees asked the timekeeper and he said he didn't need replay, he was correct (the rule doesn't specify that the referees HAVE to use replay). He also pointed out that the clock stops not when the ball is touched, or when it hits the ground, but when the referee blows the whistle. Humans simply don't react fast enough to see a ball hit out of bounds and blow a whistle (let alone have the sound of the whistle travel to the clock operator and have him react) that matches the speed of technology.

I did well enough with those other picks to be only 4 back in my pool of about 450 people. Went with all favorites today, and so far that looks fine. Losing Pitt out of my Elite 8 sucks, but that caused minimal damage (go Butler). I still have all my Final Four teams - Duke, Syracuse, Kansas, and BYU.'

EDIT - I may lose some points with the Texas-Arizona game, as I don't have either team there. I think Arizona minimizes my play there.

This TX-AZ game has been a great game and the officials are absolutely destroying it. They've gone so whistle-happy that now the game has devolved into slow-down half-court offense where the entire goal of the possession is to convince one of the refs that you just got fouled. It's awful.

Yep, I think we saw the same interview. The officials do not initially have to use replay there, but they do have to use if it a coach asks. Romar said he and his staff asked. So then, they go to the replay, no longer bound by the man at the scorers table having to hear a whistle and press a button, and they still come up with .5 seconds. That's what I can't understand.

This of course assumes that Romar and his staff did in fact ask, perhaps he just said that after the game to avoid throwing someone under the bus.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Marquette seems to have caught a break with a back court violation call just now. Though I fully admit I may not know the rule ;)

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

my bracket is totally dead. but my favorite team isn't! :D

edit: although I didn't even pick them to win one game. ;) next year I am doing what my brother did - one entry with who you think will win even though you hate them, and one with who I WANT to win.

My Elite 8 is down to a miserable 5 now. Thanks a lot Syracuse, St Johns and Pitt. I see a trend here. I shouldnt have picked so many Big East teams.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Watching Hansbrough snivel his way off the court after getting owned by Florida State is hilarious.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

And the down and out conference with 5 national titles in the last 10 years has 3 teams in the Sweet 16 left, while the greatest basketball conference in the history of man has two.

Well, ESPN, your season long storyline lasted until about 11:30 on Sunday. Maybe next year you can push for 12 teams.
