College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Well, at least Beilein tore into Ted Valentine as the game was ending...OSU got every call imaginable

The loss for MSU might actually be a good one. It could possibly move them from a 9 seed to a 10 or 11. It's a lot better chances to beat a 6 and then a 3 than to beat an 8 and then a 1.

Has Penn State done enough to make the NCAAs?

I hope their loss to Maine in December keeps them out :P

I think all four 9-9 big ten teams are in now...probably at the expense of a bc and alabama

Although bc was 2-0 against vt and has better numbers

Its a shame, The City of Boston could have been the college basketball capital with three teams making the big dance.

No Colorado or Virginia Tech. Instead we get UAB and VCU????

Give us PAIRWISE for hoop. :)

No doubt. Does anyone know why they setup the four play in games the way they did? Two games to determine who is a #16 seed, one to determine a #11 and one for a #12?

I've seen Pairwise applied to hoops (the Dolphin sim games also creates rankings based on real world data)... ugly doesn't even begin to describe what would happen.

It works out that way because the other two 12 seeds and all of the 13-16 seeds are automatic qualifiers. So those matchups are matchups of the lowest ranked at-large teams to make the field.

I think perhaps the powers that be would have liked to have all the play in games be among 16 seeds, but I think that obviously hurts the TV draw for the first two nights, plus it's kind of unfair to the really small schools.

I would love to to see the list - escpecially if it would make the talking heads explode. :)

The committee did get something right IMO. There's no way they could justify taking Virginia Tech over BC--no matter what Dick Vitale had to say.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

This year's tournament is filled with so many crappy teams its actually difficult to fill out the bracket for first round winners.

Sorry. BC has no gripe. If people hadn't artificially pumped up VaTech, BC would have nothing on their resume.

I'm not sure that either team had that strong a case, to be honest...just a case of a really flimsy bubble this year.

You're better off picking all the favorites rather than guessing which upsets will actually happen...

First of all, I didn't say BC had a gripe. That being said, they had a better resume than some of the teams that were picked like UAB/VCU...this according to Jay Bilas. All I said was the committee couldn't take Virginia Tech over BC.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Okay, I disagree with that, too. :)

1 win vs Duke is worth more than 2 wins vs. VaTech. Plus they completely flamed out in the ACC tournament. VaTech played both Florida State and Duke better than BC played Clemson. It would be different if BC had a resume to point to, but they really don't. Check out the hoops pairwise - BC is about 20 places lower than VT.

The problem for both teams is that the ACC is garbage after Duke and UNC. That conference needs Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest back. The ACC needs more depth so those conference wins actually count for something.

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

To clarify here, I'm not lobbying for the ACC nor am I saying BC has a real complaint. Win home games against Yale, Harvard, and Miami...BC is in. Clemson got in because they beat Virginia Tech in the last regular season game, killed BC in the ACC QFs and then played North Carolina tough. I just can't agree that one win over Duke is worth more than two head-to-head wins when both teams finished 9-7 and BC had the tougher ACC schedule.

Also, "completley flaming out" in the ACC tourney would have been losing to Wake Forest.
