College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

There's not a thread for high school bball, so I guess I'll just put it here.

If you've heard about or have been following the Wes Leonard story, Fennville beat Lawrence in the first round of the state playoffs 65-54.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Anyone else see the end of the St. Johns-Rutgers game? Rutgers got screwed by the refs. In the last twenty seconds, there were two missed fouls, a free throw that was counted even though the horn went off before and should have stopped play, and then with 2 seconds left St. Johns steps out of bounds, throws the ball out of bounds and the refs didn't call it, they just walked into the tunnel.

Also, Fennville plays tonight in the 2nd round of the Michigan playoffs.

Gotta make sure they sell out the Garden for Syracuse-St. Johns.

The Big East: Learning from the SEC football officials.

This was all I caught and it was enough for me to get upset with the refs.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

I'm as big a St. John's fan as anyone I know, and I am incensed. Rutgers got screwed for no reason besides the refs blowing the game.

It might be that.

It might also be that the over-under for the game was around 128 (reportedly, started higher, ended lower), and the point total for the game ended right on 128.

The JimBurr and TimHiggins Twitter feeds might be interesting in the wake of this one.

The no calls on fouls were fine since they let Rutgers commit murder the last 10 minutes of the game to get it close. The guy who got marginally fouled at the end of the game should have fouled out on three separate occasions! Including two situations where he came over the back to put back rebounds for points. The free throw counting with the horn...the only one who would have been affected was the guy taking it and he still made it so why did that matter?

The last play was ridiculous. Brownlee gets the loose ball and 1) travels 2) steps out of bounds 3) throws the ball into the stands. He deserved the trifecta of stupidity...instead he's bailed out with two of the three refs not even looking at him. They miss him first traveling, then stepping out of bounds, then throwing the ball into the stands (instead of throwing it up in the air to make it somewhat defensible.)

Unbelievable.

Fennville wins again, 79-50. They'll play Friday in the 3rd round (district championship game) of the Michigan state tournament.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Congrats to the UNC Bears for their first ever NCAA tournament bid. The program is only in their 5th year of D1 play.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Notre Dame making a case for a 1 seed. Crushing Cincy right now 81-51 with a few minutes to play. With Pitt losing it should open up the possibility a bit more. Getting to the Big East final would help...winning the big east tournament would probably seal a 1 seed for them.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Illinois has gone cold and Michigan has scored 12 straight points late in the second half to tie it at 51-51. Typical Illini.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Illinois is the UNH of the Big Ten. Big tourney game, things start to go just a tiny bit wrong, and the next thing you know the wheels have come completely off.

Re: College Basketball 2010-11: Headin' for Houston

Michigan State pounds Purdue with 30 points from Kalin Lucas. Almost certainly in the tournament now.

Also, Fennville won the third round (and district championship) by three points. They are now 23-0 and will take on an undefeated Schoolcraft team Monday. Schoolcraft has only had three games within ten points the entire season. The game is schedule to be played at Vicksburg, about twenty minutes outside of Kalamazoo, but I see this game being moved to WMU.

Penn State 36 - Wisco 33? I'm so glad I'm a hockey guy!

Good for the Lions, though they may still need to beat the Spartans to punch their ticket.

When you see Sportscenter, keep a lookout for the end of the Florida State VaTech game in the ACC tournament.

Flipping around the channels, looking for something to wash down a college hockey loss, and stumbled across a whale of a finish. It'll be on the highlight shows.
