Colgate 22-23

Clarkson had a nice run a few years ago,
but until The ECAC kicks some WCHA butt
on a consistent basis we will remain the David come Frozen 4 time each year especially on this site.

Time to start changing the perception is right now!!!

Great news that Danielle is a top 3 finalist for the Patty Kaz. I don't think a lot of people at Gate or in Central NY know what a big deal her senior season has been and the quality of hockey being played at Class of '65. Should give a further boost to our already very strong recruiting efforts.

Takeaways from the article below:

1) Colgate may make the FF because “we just can’t see 3 teams from the WCHA”
What a ringing endorsement.

2) Jacques will win the Kaz because “she has kept OSU at No. 1 [in the polls] all season”

More goals than shots! More goals than shots! Love that chant. It's not happening tomorrow for sure but it will be interesting for you to get your own goal horn blown at you.

I actually don't think they are required to blow the horn, etc for the visitor in this game. The first game, yes, because it was a neutral ice game. This one however is hosted by the higher seed and therefore their home game. I guess we'll see ...

Nope. It isn't a Colgate home game, it is an NCAA game. You'll notice different signage, different videos on the video board. If there's a Badger band there (I hope there is), they will get equal turns with a Colgate band. Colgate will get to wear home jerseys, and get the last change, but it isn't a home Colgate game.

-----------

Adding: I pulled up the quarterfinals from last year played at Ohio State and Minnesota (that I can access in the BTN 'archive'). At Ohio State, no goal horns for either team; at Minnesota, goal horns for both teams.

(I truly didn't realize this when I started to look, but first I went to look at the last couple quarterfinals hosted by Wisconsin. But that did me no good. The last three quarterfinals hosted at LaBahn were all shutouts. :-o The ones before that, back to 2015 and 2014, are too far back to be in the BTN archive.)

And its a pretty good horn. They sound it at the start of the periods too (I think.....lol)

Crazy Q/PSU game. Was sorry someone had to lose. And to play that much extra hockey with OSU waiting around the corner is too bad. I still think the Bobcats can put up a good fight. A hot goaltender can do wonders.

Felt badly for LIU and mixed feelings for Wisconsin getting such an easy draw. Clarkson and PSU weren’t as fortunate and it almost felt inequitable. Guess there’s no other way to grow the sport.

Don’t know what to make of Saturday’s matchup other than I hope ‘Gate wins. Not sure our SOS is as strong as theirs, and not much of a believer in home ice advantage. Better teams win anywhere, regardless. Colgate is good for 2gaa on a regular basis, if not more. It’s worrisome. Our last few games, we scored quickly, and also started/ended periods with timely goals. We need to block shots and shoot the puck at all costs. Kalty will be good for a penalty or two. Hope she and Serdachny can avoid the beating they’re about to take.

I posted this elsewhere, but it's worth repeating:

KRACH numbers imply that if Colgate and Wisconsin played one another 40 times, Colgate would win 21 of them and Wisconsin would win 19. That's pretty good.

Sorry about the loss today guys. I thought after Wisconsin missed their breakaway chances that karma would favor a Colgate comeback. Not to be.

Nice season, Raiders! The quarterfinal round hasn't been kind to you folks as of late. I'll be hoping for you to get your program's first Kaz as a bit of consolation.

Historic season with many positive things to fondly remember and focus on going forward. Thank you players and coaches for always leaving it on the ice. Hannah Murphy stood on her head today and did herself proud. We had two great snipe goals but otherwise Wisconsin was as advertised and, today, simply outplayed us. Not a good year for any of the ECAC teams in the tournament it appears ...

I'm surprised Colgate lost. I thought Yale was overrated, but not Colgate. Tanner Gates had a nice career. I was shocked that Gates and Smigliani wanted to go to Hamilton, New York since they are California girls, but I'm going to steal a line from Kiki Vanderweghe, who said when asked why he didn't have a tan, "There isn't much sun inside inside a gym." Apply that to these two and their dedication to the sport won out.

Wisconsin sure did play a really solid passing game today, the best I have seen in the long time. And they back pressured in transition very well as well. I'm saying I think WI played above the season average quality and maybe Colgate played a little under theirs. It's hard for me to think that the gap between these two teams is that big.

Wisconsin played like they had won the WCHA title and were the No. 1 seed. It was an honor to watch such a tremendous program with so much amazing history play on our campus in our humble arena. Dare I say that after the first 90 seconds, I knew what the outcome would be. Not to take away from any ECAC team or any of Colgate's individual accomplishments, but 'Gate and Qpac were severely overmatched and Yale ran into, arguably, the stingiest goaltender in the country. If we're being honest, it would be very fair to critique our League after such an abysmal NCAA tournament. Wisconsin's game on Thursday was a speed bump, but they traveled a great distance, slept in a hotel for days, and none of it showed. Congratulations to the Badgers. And to Colgate, 3peat ECAC Champions, congratulations on such a successful season and for keeping Colgate on the map. We celebrate you. Here's hoping the League continues to get stronger.

Kind of surprising that Colgate and UW have only played twice, the 2018 FF and today. It would be great as a Badger fan to see more of the top Eastern teams at LaBahn area. The Badgers have played a home and home the past couple of years vs. Quinnipiac and it would be great to see more WCHA/ECAC matchups in the non-conference. The West certainly appears to be quite a bit stronger than the East, but to grow college hockey we need the Eastern schools to be able to compete for NCAA championships regularly. Only Clarkson with 3 titles has been able to win the NCAAs in the past 21 yrs with all other titles being from the WCHA. We need the Northeasterns, Colgates, Yales, BC, BU etc to break through consistently to really grow the sport. Having more great non-conference matchups between the East and West would be a good start.

Something tells me its political (money) and distance, Bonzo. Colgate played OSU twice this season; tied (somehow) and lost handily. It was as telling back then as it was today against the Badgers. Not sure 1 or 2 games will elevate any one program. As good as many Eastern teams are, the top choices for men and women seem to be western schools, for good reason. Nothing new.

Hmmmm ;-)

I would give the majority of the credit for OSU's decisive win in that second game to our coach and the adjustments she made after the first game. She's the best! No wonder our opponents named her
"The Muzinator!"
