Colgate 22-23

TchrBill, like you and me, anyone looking for a small college liberal arts experience who sets foot on campus or attends a class knows immediately they are exactly where they want to be. And it just seems to get better each year so it's definitely more than the great coaches...

The problem for me is my dislike of a system that has players getting a chance to play all or part of 5 years thus backing up recruiting and screwing up scoring records, etc. It also provides larger universities to benefit more than small whether they choose to or not. Colgate has benefitted along with others and I don't like that. One of our basketball players this year set a slew of all time records because of it and I didn't like that. So for me it's personal and if you see no problem I respect that but I like turnover in college sports both with players and coaches. It should be about giving others a chance to have the same experience not loading to secure championships. That's just me.

The problem is that, in a sport like women's hockey, in which few players take a red shirt year, there was no way to avoid recruiting getting backed up. Had the NCAA not offered the extra year, so many of the athletes would have decided to redshirt for the 2020-21 season that it's unlikely that the season would have happened at all. In terms of disease prevention, that might have been the right thing to do, but it would have put the sport into the same situation it's in now.

Beyond that, the student athletes in the midst of their collegiate careers at the time of COVID were going to lose somewhere between a half-year to a full year, through no fault of their own. As it is, they got 4 1/2 years instead of 3 1/2 years; there was no way for them to get "the same" four years as would have been if COVID had not happened. It was a situation that *nobody* chose, and the NCAA made the best decision they could with the information that had at the time.

If some "asterisks" need to get added to some record books is the biggest problem that arose, I am 100% A-OK with that.

I'm not saying it was the wrong decision by the NCAA, I'm just saying I cannot wait until it works it's way out of the system and we get back to the normal 4 years of eligibility.

On another note, I see that Danielle S and Sarah Fillier from Princeton are the only 2 collegians named to the Canadian roster for the upcoming Women's Worlds - Apr 5-16. It's in eastern Canada so we should be able to see all games. Great women's hockey will be on display I am sure. Hope the Czechs play themselves into Group 1 going forward.

No Kaz hardware for Serdachny. Winner is grad student defensewoman Sophie Jaques. The article mentions she is the first black woman to win the award. Apparently, all voting is done when they reveal the Top 10 finalists. making all stats after that moot.
THANK YOU FOR A TREMENDOUS SEASON, #9!
Go 'Gate!

Sophie Jaques became the first Black winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. The 22-year-old defenseman at Ohio State University was honored as the top player in NCAA Division I women's hockey

Fantastic that we landed 3 players on the USCHO All-American teams. Heartiest congratulations to Danielle, Kalty and particularly Ally who has not been there before but richly deserves it. Not really sure how someone can be third team ECAC (which is laughable) and then 2nd team All-American but that's politics for you. Fantastic job ladies and coaches and keep up the good work. Cannot wait for next season to start with you all back doing what you do best. Also best of luck Danielle in the Women's Worlds!

No hate, just better contacts in Canada as our coach is Canadian and you guys and the WCHA control MN and WI. Little Caesar's is our main recruiting spot in the US now it seems as we have 2 more after Elyssa B coming in the next 2 years. Of the Canadian girls attributed to us, I think Hurry is headed to Clarkson not Colgate but I hope I'm wrong as she had a great World U18 tourney and we need D.

You probably don't know this, but WI really does not produce that many impactful D1 players. In fact, this year UW had no one from WI on the roster. MJ gets them from all over. Frosty controls MN. It's impressive what Colgate is doing on the recruiting trail.

I think it would be the rarest of Gopher fans that believe "Frosty controls MN" is anything but a nostalgic twinge from a long-lost past.

Yeah, I did know there were few home growns
playing top level hockey in Madison, I was just being kind. With your team and your University you don't need any more help. If we only had more than a MAT program in education we could lure some grad transfers too, but alas...

I see it looks like DS is returning to Colgate next year (which you may have already known on this thread):
“I think it's a huge learning experience. For me, just getting the opportunity to play my first world championship and just learning from some of the older and more experienced girls — even things I could take back to Colgate for my last year,” she says.

Also, her cousin Maya played for Canada U18's.
