Colgate 2024-25 Harder Hockey

Looking forward to this weekend's games. Q-Pac is playing really well and so are we! Take away the Penn State debacle and we're 8-1 with the only loss to Cornell. Hope Labelle is back too !

One of our best teams in years and there's no interest here ? Seems like our weak link Takacs has turned it around. We are a solid team now !

3 points this weekend would be nice, anything more would be a huge bonus. A sweep could put us in real potential to win the ECAC regular season and make a run to Placid.

Andrew Takacs led the team out onto the ice tonight in Hamden, Conn.
Matej Marinov did the same for the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

I had a nice visit with MarkEagle and he says ‘hey’ to Shabby and the other ‘Gate regulars on here.

Colgate’s Robby Newton scores (from Ryan Sullivan), followed shortly by a Quinnipiac goal.

Colgate’s Max Nagel (from Alex DiPaolo) scores after Quinnipiac came mighty close at our end.

Quinnipiac penalty (interference). Killed.

Colgate 9, Quinnipiac 9, SOG after one.
Colgate 2, Quinnipiac 1, score after one.

Colgate’s Reid Irwin with a beautiful goal. From Ben Raymond and Nico Rexine.
QU goalie pulled afterwards in favor of Dylan Silverstein.

Quinnipiac goal, a soft one, makes it 3-2.

Colgate penalty (cross-checking). Killed.

Quinnipiac 24, Colgate 17, SOG after two.
Colgate 3, Quinnipiac 2, score after two.

Quinnipiac penalty (hooking). Killed.

Colgate penalty (tripping). And Quinnipiac PPG.

Colgate’s Alex DiPaolo scores with 3:12 left in regulation. Quinnipiac challenges the goal (for goaltender interference). No goal.

And Quinnipiac scored a beauty with 2:05 remaining.
Colgate net is empty.

And Quinnipiac scores an ENG.
And another one.

Quinnipiac 35, Colgate 26, SOG final.
Quinnipiac 6, Colgate 3, final score.

It was a pleasure meeting you iowa! Colgate is lucky to have a dedicated fan like you!

Quinnipiac 6, Colgate 3, final score.
I know the final score hurts but I thought it was an epic comeback by the Bobcats. All in all it was a very entertaining game.

Safe travels iowa! I envy your hockey exploits.

A tough one to swallow tonight. I thought we played great the 1st and 2nd periods. We were skating and moving the puck well, winning battles along the boards, and Takacs was solid. But I thought the tide started to turn when QPac got the 2nd goal which was a total fluke.
And QPac got the big PPG goal in the 3rd and we didn’t capitalize on our chance when we could have made it 4-2.

Hockey is still a 3 period game. We missed a huge opportunity tonight.

Just arrived at Princeton, N.J., hotel and see Swarthout bus at the hotel next door.

It was an entertaining game and the final score certainly didn’t reflect the feel of the game. Take away the ENGs and it was a 4-3 game, which was indicative of the way both teams played.

I enjoyed chatting with MarkEagle, Brett Merner’s grandfather and with Mike Harder briefly.

And I agree with Magoo… anytime you lead by two goals and lose, it is a missed opportunity. We just need to buckle down, beat Princeton and save the weekend.

P.S. - I give Rand Pecknold credit for switching goalies when he did. That can never be an easy decision in league play in the second half of the season.

For 96.53% of last night's game, we did NOT trail. And it got us ZERO points in the standings.

This was a gut-punching loss, but in my opinion, not a "collapse" by Colgate. Yes we had a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd period but it was short-lived, and good teams find a way to battle back. Quinnipiac has been consistently good the past several seasons and it helped them win the national championship in 2023.

My main concern is our special teams. We stayed out of the box but still only had a 50% PK success rate. On the season we're only killing about 75% of our shorthanded situations. The power play isn't that much better either, going 0 for 2 on the man advantage last night.

If we can earn a win tonight at Princeton it'll prove we're still a good team that can put one bad outcome behind them.

Glad you got to spend time with Markeagle, Iowa. Hey Mark, have you been to Colgate's new rink ? Last night's game was a huge disappointment for me, always tough to be ahead for most of the game and let it slip away. Q-Pac was the better team in the third period. Also our go ahead goal with three minutes left being taken off the board was the right call I thought. Need to win tonight !

Haven't been to Hamilton since the 2012 playoff series, but it's on my list to see the Class of 65. I've been wanting to make the Colgate-Cornell weekend (have never been to Lynah) but the calendar and wallet never seem to be in sync.

Andrew Takacs led Colgate out onto the ice for tonight’s pre-game warmup.
Arthur Smiith did the same for Princeton.
The pre-game ‘Gate social was well organized (by Josh Miller) and good fun.

Colgate’s Daniel Panetta scores first (unassisted) just fives minutes in.

Colgate penalty (boarding). Killed.

Colgate penalty (tripping). Killed.

Colgate penalty (slashing). Killed.

But seconds later, Princeton tied it up.

And 32.7 seconds left in the period, Princeton scored again.

Princeton 8, Colgate 7, SOG after one.
Princeton 2, Colgate 1, score after one.

Princeton penalty (cross-checking). And a PPG by ‘Gate’s Alex Dipolo from Ryan Sullivan and Brett Chorske.

Colgate penalty (slashing). Killed.
Princeton penalty (unsportsmanlike conduct). Killed.

Colgate’s Brett Chorske scored a crazy goal where it flipped high in the air and came down behind the Tiger goalie and across the line. Assist to Tommy Bergsland.

Minutes later, Princeton scored a wraparound goal.

Colgate 25, Princeton 17, SOG after two.
Colgate 3, Princeton 3, score after two.

And Princeton scored after winning a face-off in our end.

Delayed Princeton penalty and Alex DiPaolo scored, from Owen Neuharth and Tommy Bergsland.

Matching minor penalties (roughing). Killed.

2:30 left in regulation and Brett Chorske scored!!

Princeton penalty. Empty net. And Colgate ENG by Alex DiPaolo (hat trick).

Colgate 6, Princeton 4, final score.

so far being out hustled to the puck after period #1, plus a rather unfavorable referee whistle...and no Neumeier? Let's wake up get some points here boys...

That win was in doubt until the final minutes, when they took a page out of our playbook and took a stoopid ‘too many men on the ice’ penalty.

Between Brett Chorske, Alex DiPaolo and Daniel Panetta, we have some scoring power.

And Andrew Takacs again made some great saves tonight to keep us in the game, which for the most part was a pretty even affair.

Our defense, though, in my opinion, needs to get back to basics and pause the blind passes in our end. Tonight, I sat on the glass watching Takacs in the first and third periods. We know how important the third period was for us, going into it tied 3-3. We needed a regulation win bad, for those three conference points. So what did we do on three separate occasions? Three blind passes in our own end onto Tiger sticks!!

Lastly, Clarkson and Colgate have games-in-hand. They handled Yale last night, but lost to Brown tonight (did you remember my Brown remark last night, MarkEagle?). Well, we lost to Quinnipiac and really needed the win in regulation tonight on the road… and we got it!! Congrats to all and keep on going ‘Gate!!

P.S - If Michael Neumeier did get hurt last night, I didn’t see the cause.

How can we be so confused as to who scored the final ENG tonight?

It was announced over the public address system as a hat trick for Alex DiPaolo, but CHN and USCHO showed the goal-scorer as Jake Schneider (from Alex DiPaolo and Max Nagel). Colgate splits the difference and gives it to DiPaolo in the text annd Schneider in the box score. And I was there (albeit at the other end of the ice, on the glass). he he he

Well, mission accomplished...they may drive you nuts on occasion, but they are certainly fun to watch...first round bye quite doable...
