Colgate 2024-25 Harder Hockey

Magoo - yes, they do with their Colgate ID. Here's to a healing next month for our boys! Happy Holidays everyone! Go 'gate!

Colgate was able to create alot of traffic in front of the net, unlike previous years. Our fourth and fifth goals (ppg's on major)in particular were at least partially screened. Eight players at least 6-2, and Chorske 6-7 and frosh Spinale 6-5 are playing great hockey, Cornell wasn't able to dominate sizewise. Colgate never trailed in either game for the weekend. Need more consistency, some very good wins then Penn State set us back.

Thanks CU13. For many students it may have been the first time they went to a hockey game. And hopefully they enjoyed it and will come back. It drives me nuts that they only come for the Cornell game.

Shabby, this weekend was even more impressive as we were without 2 of our best forwards in Labelle and Panetta.
Some of you may not agree but I’ll cut the team some slack on the Penn State games since we had to travel and PSU was home the previous weekend.

So up to now it looks like we can play with Dartmouth, QPac and Cornell. Can we play with Clarkson? They seem to be flying under the radar a little but are 2 points behind us with 2 games in hand.

Someone recently posted on here about ECAC Hockey travel partners and the 'roughest in-conference road trip' for the six pairs.
Surprisingly to me, I wasn't able to do the research I wanted on the ECAC Hockey website (as Nick Sczerbinski said that they have known issues).
But 'Gate (stat) keeper Zachary Lamont clued me into the treasure trove of historical info on the College Hockey News (CHN) website.
So, if my math is correct...

ECAC Hockey Men’s Top ‘Travel Partners’ by Points, by Season (2017-25):

2024-25 season-to-date
28 points… Colgate-17, Cornell-11.

2023-24
87 points… Cornell-44, Colgate-43.
2022-23
86 points… Quinnipiac-60, Princeton-26.
2021-22
77 points (tie)… Quinnipiac-54, Princeton-23; Clarkson-51, Saint Lawrence-26.
2020-21
Covid season only involving four of the twelve schools.
2019-20
59 points… Cornell-38, Colgate- 21.
2018-19
51 points… Harvard-28, Dartmouth-23.
2017-18
59 points… Cornell-36, Colgate-23.

P.S. - For those with ESPN+ PPV, I am now watching UMass Lowell at Boston College. Ex-Raiders Pierson Brandon and Nick Anderson are playing for UML. And Nick just scored!! Thinking of his mother, father and mother’s father. All great hockey people.

Iowa Based Traveler, the "top travel partners" stats you shared doesn't take into account order of finish for the pairs. In most of those years, one team dominated the league while the other was middle of the pack. Cornell in 2019-20 and Quinnipiac from 2021-23 come to mind.

If both teams of a travel partner pair finish in the top 4, then that's a candidate for "toughest road trip":
  • Cornell-Colgate both had byes in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2024.
  • Harvard-Dartmouth both had byes in 2006.
  • Clarkson-St. Lawrence both had byes in 2007.
  • RPI-Union both had byes in 2013. And in 2011 Union finished 1st and RPI lost a tiebreaker for 4th (playing Colgate in the first round and losing in 3 games)!
Most years the Central New York trip has been the toughest for other ECAC teams. We should be so lucky!

Rainman, my theory is that there had to have been one ‘toughest road trip’ each and every season since (since 2017-2018). So I combined points for every pair and these were the toughest pairs (with the most points) for each season. Granted, sometimes the toughest pair had one dominant team, and sometimes it didn’t. But these were all the toughest pairs (most points) each season. The bottom line is that we agree… Central New York’s Cornell and Colgate tend to have been the toughest road trip for the others since 2017-18 (and, to your point, likely longer).

2., 76 games, Minnesota
3., 68 games, Arizona State
4., 60 games, Denver

Our last time being shut out was by Clarkson in Potsdam, N.Y., 4-0, on November 11, 2022.
Interestingly enough, six games earlier than that, we were shut out by Merrimack in North Andover, Mass., 5-0, on October 21, 2022.
And two games earlier than that, we were shut out by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., 2-0, on October 14, 2022.

3 shutout losses in 9 games early on in the 2022-23 campaign. But it ended with our first ECAC Championship in 33 years! It was the blurst of times, it was the best of times!

While researching the last time that we were shutout (Clarkson, 4-0, 11/11/22), I again became intrigued by Colgate blowouts, for and against.
I consider any four-goal (or more) differential to be a blowout. 2018-19 was our Point-less season.
This season, we have been blown out twice (both on the road). Last season, we blew out others thrice.

Hey, I've been mildly positive this year, mentioning the solid job Mike's assistants have done in adding two solid D-men via the transfer pool (adding to the Chorske pickup last year)...revenge for Noah Laba...like our ECAC position...only negative is continued poor o-o-c record that keeps us down in the Pairwise...if the 6 losses to UConn, UMass-Lowell and Penn State had been, say, 2 wins and 4 losses we'd been in the top 20...

I didn't realize that we had four of the top ten ECAC scorers, if only, never mind, no negativity. It's nice seeing Gate in first place , at least for the next month. Clarkson two points behind us with two games in hand, they have superb goaltending.

Just noticed Max Nagel a freshman from Minn. is tied for third in scoring with Tommy Bergsland with 4G and 9 assists for thirteen points. He's definitely been flying under my radar.

We have our first recruit from the CHL(Canadian Major) Tyson Doucette from the Sarnia Sting(OHL). A plethora of talent available now from the three CHL conferences, OHL...WHL...and Quebec Majors. That gives us thirteen recruits for next year.
He currently leads the team in scoring.

Yes Merry Christmas and a Happy 2025 to everyone.
And maybe Santa can bring us at least 1 win vs LIU next month.
