Coaching Openings

Re: Coaching Openings

Any feeling on who you think it will be?

I don't know if I can make a good guess on this one.... All have some good qualities that BSU, I think, needs.

Scanlon is a BSU alum, has coaching ties in Girls Hockey in NW Minnesota. Does have some college assistant experience.

Fryklund is a BSU alum and current assistant coach, ie., stability to the program and familiar with the players.

Jutting is familiar with the WCHA, albeit the mens side. Good friends with BSU Mens coach Tom Serratore.

Bruinicks is the one I am most unfamiliar with. Current MSU-Mankato assistant so he is familiar with the WCHA.

I thought Bruininks was the favorite but after seeing the others have ties with BSU I kind of wonder now. It will be interesting to find out tomorrow. Thanks for the update.

Re: Coaching Openings

If all of the students at Bemidji were charged 10 bucks to pay for the Women’s hockey coach, they could pay $50,000.
It is the smallest of the 7 public universities in the state, and is half the size UMD, the 2nd smallest school in the WCHA.
The same rate at other schools:
UMD = $110K
MSU, UND = $150K
SCSU = $180K
UW = over $400K
UM = over $500K
OSU = almost $600K

OK - so it's small.... but it's the state of hockey so I'm sure all students would be willing to chip in $20.

BSU will have a video feed of tomorrow's announcement. The Beaver Radio Network will have an audio feed of it as well.

Great, they have video feeds to announce coaching hires but will not have live feeds of their games. I sure hope BSU changes this, its not fair to the players families, and fans that want to watch. In this era, it's embarrassing .

Jim Scanlon is the guy.....from what I gather

That's what I had heard last week, but with the caveat of making the dollars work. Hopefully they found a way to bridge some of the gap between what he made at EGF, and what Sertich made. Is there booster or camp income available. I know Sertich was around $93K, but that was just his state salary. Not sure if BSU has agreements for extra funding ~ radio, TV, apparel, and if they do, whether women's teams have access.

No need to tap UMD students for that sawbuck.

Miller's pay went from $130K to $170K right after their last Frozen Four win in 2010.

that is one months salary of a Big Ten football head coach
but 50% greater than the average professor makes

The Beaver Radio Network is also reporting that Jim Scanlon will be named the new coach.

if true, the Utopians will not be happy
