CCHA teams will join WCHA

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

I'm only laughing at the WCHA remnants (I'm looking at you SCSU, MTU, MSU-M, UAA, BSU) that were so bemoaning the evils of the Big Ten and NCHC doing what was only best for them and not looking out for the greater good of college hockey.

Now they've done the exact same thing.

Yesterday was a dark day for UAH.

The fans were bemoaning...the schools were however doing whatever they felt best. I'm still not happy that there isn't a home yet for UAH.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Not sure how this closes the door on UAH. 1) Not all teams have accepted and 2) even if they did, there would still be a 12th spot open, and 3) Moorhead hasn't declared they are moving up.

Seriously? You really have no clue.
Almost none of us were in favor of this merger. We wanted to form 2 conferences, with one of them having room to accomodate UAH. We don't want to leave them hanging out there with no where to go. Also, unlike *******es from UND and DU we aren't out there telling everyone how great this is going to be for everyone. This is bull**** for UAH just like it is for all of the schools in the "new" WCHA. I for one hate the decision because it kills UAH and you won't be seeing me trying to tell anyone from UAH that this is a good thing.

The outside chance for UAH is now for Notre Dame to go to Hockey East or stay independent and for Western and Bowling Green to go to the NCHC and for Moorhead and UAH to be the 11th and 12th teams in the WCHA.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

They didn't "pretty much demand" anything. They were forced by the state legislature to support Bemidji's entry.
Where the **** do you come up with this?

Guess I missed those gopher demands in the media. Maybe it was all the trips they took to Bemidji or the invites to play at home, oh wait, that was UND and UMD.

I do remember Lucia supporting the move when interviewed, just like every other wcha team.
While I think the statement that "MN pretty much demanded" BSU's entry into the WCHA is exaggerated, there was no bigger catalyst within the WCHA for the inclusion of BSU than Don Lucia.

The difference is, now there is only one program in jeopardy. Much better than multiple.
There are a lot of scenarios that could still play out, and more than a few of them would have UAH find a conference.

As I said before, the WCHA has extended the invitation to multiple programs facing a bleak outlook. It is now on those schools to determine what is realistic, and out of that what is in their best interest. Once it gets figured out where the 3 remaining CCHA schools are going (BGS, WMU, Notre Dame), and whether any Atlantic Hockey teams would seriously consider a move, leagues can determine whether or not to extend an invitation to UAH.

I think this all pretty much guarantees that the AHA teams aren't moving. Where would they go?

Who's the 10th team?
The only way the door is completely shut is if all 5 CCHA teams accept and Moorhead announces that they're going D1 in 2013-14. Your scenario leaves a 9 team WCHA.

Were you behind the scenes? I admit I wasn't, but I am just going off of what I heard. If you heard differently then maybe your sources are right and mine are wrong. My guess is that you heard nothing and you are assuming they didn't fight for them to get in the league? Keep in mind I hate the Gophers as much if not more than anybody on this board, so I have no reason to say this if I don't think it is true....

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

So the new look WCHA is:

St Cloud State
Mankato State
Bemidji State
UAA
Michigan Tech
Alaska
Lake Superior State
Ferris State
Northern Michigan
Bowling Green

Western Michigan? (possible)

Plenty of room for UAH, that's 12 with UAH and Western or 11 without.

how do you know UAH won't be invited? Even if all the CCHA teams join the league that leaves the league with 11 teams. It only makes sense to add a 12 team.......

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

I agree that it seems pretty unlikely that the Atlantic Hockey schools will leave.
But, if those 4 would consider a move, BGSU is pretty close to all of them and would be a natural choice for inclusion. At that point, they need 1 more team.

Also, not to suggest this is a possibility (just posing the question):
Would RPI and/or Union consider leaving the ECAC for a new conference?
I hate to ask, as I find all these napkin-realignments that get posted on here to be incredibly annoying, but I am genuinely curious what people closer to those programs think.

.

That probably was a better way to say it. That doesn't change the fact that they put a lot of pressure on making sure they were let in.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Just to clarify (and not to put words in your mouth, so correct me if you meant something else):
That doesn't change the fact that they put a lot of pressure on making sure they were let in.
Meaning UMN put a lot of pressure on making sure BSU were let in.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

I do know, from my distant perch overlooking Whitefish Bay, that UND and Dave Hakstol, and UMD and Scott Sandelin, were the driving forces in getting BSU into the WCHA . . . so much so that Bemidji made a special request to have the Sioux be the team the Beaver hosted when they opened their new stadium. I recall reading at the time both coaches (from UND and BSU) virtually gushing over each other and the close relationship the two schools had forged. I know that Duluth and UND made home-and-home reciprocal agreements with BSU before BSU joined the WCHA, and that Duluth and UND were well known to have worked very hard in favor of BSU.

Interesting that one year later, both UND and Duluth would bolt for a new league -- although that was after the Big (6) Ten schools made their move.

And its absurd the amount of fake love being shown UAH:

From the Big (6) Ten fans -- really? Thou speaketh with forked tongue. If anybody should just keep their yaps shut about conference realingment, it should be the Big (6) Ten people. Your schools started all this mess. Enjoy you TV money and your quasi-conference championship, and please don't preach about loyalty and service to the college hockey world.

From the NCHC fans -- really? I wonder why the NCHC is not invting UAH. This new league allegedly is supposed to not be restricted by travel or region. And UAH has a nice big building waiting. And obviously, lets be honest, UAH has shown more commitment to hockey than any other D-I school merely by surviving when everything -- and I mean everything -- in the hockey universe is telling them to quit.

And from the WCHA (and soon-to-be WCHA) fans: really? For over a month, people (at least on this board) were moaning over the travel costs to Fairbanks and Sault Ste. Marie for the remaining WCHA teams. Anyone from Fairbanks who supported moving to the WCHA was shot down within moments. LSSU was disregarded as a far flung outpost someplace east of Greenland. The flight is too long, too many academic issues, play W-Th games . . . And yet now -- NOW -- you want to feel sorry for UAH, when there is no chance for UAH to join the league, suddenly take up its noble cause?

Here is an idea -- for everyone feeling bad for UAH -- why don't all of the schools agree to home and home contracts with UAH? Where is Minnesota making that pitch? Where is SCSU? Where is North Dakota? With all these forthcoming available NC games for the Big (6) Ten and the NCHC, I assume that UAH will have NOOOOOO trouble filling its home schedule, right? Oh . . . yeah . . . thats right . . . not darned likely, is it, that Minnesota or Michigan or CC are going to play in Alabama, huh?

Keep talking the good fight, but remember: "Bravery, in the face of no oppostion, is just another face of a coward." -- Hemmingway.
