CCHA teams will join WCHA

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Now if Notre Dame could go to Hockey East or play Independent, Western and Bowling Green to the NCHC, then you could have a WCHA with the three Minnesota schools, the addition of Minnesota-Moorhead and UAA in the one division and the four Michigan schools and Fairbanks in the other. You play the other four in your division 4x and four in the other 2x and one team in the other 4x. That keeps your schedule at 28 games and leaves 8 to 10 games for non-conference play, depending on whether you make one Alaska trip or two.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

I'm going to take a wait and see approach regarding scheduling. Unlike 4four4, I didn't read Roman's blog to mean that MN will be penciling in 10 games, year after year, against UMD, SCSU, BSU and Mankato, between the home and homes, games against Duluth, and the Xcel Minnnesota tourney. But maybe.

The Big 10 and NCHC teams that bolted the current conference arrangements for purely perceived economic advantages are going to be stuck walking a fine line. They need to continue to support the smaller programs, to allow college hockey to flourish, but they also need to raise revenue. We'll see how much the Big 10 network prefers to have MN playing BSU, as opposed to Notre Dame or Boston College.

If the tourney happens it won't be right away. I am not convince it will ever happen and to honest could careless if it does or does not.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Then why weren't the Gophers playing Bemidji much before? And trivia question: how often did they GO to Bemidji for non-conference? You act like they NEED to come up with close-by road games. When do the Gophers go on the road for OOC? Not often. They could tell ECAC and AHA and even Hockey East schools "Come to our barn... and don't expect a return trip" and get away with it. So if they give us anything close to a 1:1 deal, I for one will be very appreciative.

They don't need close by road games, but economically speaking it does have benefits.

If it wasn't for the Gophers BSU would not be in the WCHA..... Let's wait and see what happens before you lay into what the gophers won't do. It only makes sense for the Gophers to play SCSU and Mankato home and home every year. that way they have one home weekend locked up and more important one road series locked up without having a hotel....

I read it the same way 4x4 read it, but I'm not going to say I've never been wrong before. I really hope it's an every year scheduling arrangement.

What do you mean we never played UW at home? And playing the Gophers once a year does not exactly mean "problem solved." Now based on the temporary 12-team league, yeah, you only lose one extra series with them every 5 years, but based on when we were in a ten team league with them, that's a series we're losing every other year. And I've seen the Gophers say they'll play us every year, I haven't seen anything that has said they'll come to our building every other year. I'll priase a 1:1 deal when I see it.

Honestly, I'm not upset with MN or even UW... UW ay have wanted the Big10 to happen, it was circumstances that created Penn State getting money, and once they got 6 teams they HAD to form a league. MN doesn't sound like they wanted it... conference with 4 in-state rivals, UND, CC, DU, hell even they have some good ties to MTU, and Anchorage which meant extra games a lot of years. They formed a conference they were required to and they have traditions. I don't like the knee-jerk, panic reaction of the NCHC, and I think DU and UND are most responsible, so there's where my frustration and disappointment, particularly in UND, lie.

That being said, I wanna keep playing ALL of them. This, "Let's stop scheduling those ********" attitude is purely cutting off your no to spite your face. If we say **** you to DU and UND, they'll go, "Oh... well ok," and they'll move on. I think UND will miss playing their WCHA paired rival, a team that's pretty close, and a team that they've had some great matchups with, but they'll move on, and they'll be fine. DU won't care if we never play them again, and I only wanna play DU because they're a good caliber team, but tommy's right, the NHC doesn't care when the Jelly Doughnuts come to town. Of course I wanna see MN, they're important financially, and to a lesser extent so are UW and tUMD. I may have bad feelings towards some of those teams, but giving them the finger when they're gonna do fine without us and they're still our best draws (MN, UND, UW, tUMD our best 4 draws I believe, in that order) isn't the right way to go about it. The right way is to schedule them whenever we can, make some $ off of them, and see if we can't knock beat them on the ice.

Good take Euro. I can't disagree with much, if anything, you said. Just an FYI.. What I have read is that they're looking at scheduling a home-and-home with SCSU and Mankato yearly. I think Bemidji would probably end up having to play at UMN most years. Plus, they would all share revenue from the All-MN Hockey Day Tourney.

Sorry, can you explain to me why it is the gophers that are responsible for BSU being in the wcha?

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Yep, it's all funny. Maybe if these kids are lucky UAH can work out something similar to what Omaha's wrestling team did and have all their kids transfer en masse to another school...say Moorhead. Then the Atlanta Thrashers comparisons will be complete.

Yeah, I'm dying with laughter over here. Perhaps all these comedians would like to partake in the seemingly unavoidable talks parents are going to have to have with their player(s) as their dream of playing DI hockey gets taken away.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

So now every college hockey team west of Buffalo, NY, (except for USAFA and UAH) plus one (Penn State) has "they killed college hockey" blood on their hands. :D

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Because without them pretty much demanding it they never would have been let in.

Guess I missed those gopher demands in the media. Maybe it was all the trips they took to Bemidji or the invites to play at home, oh wait, that was UND and UMD.

I do remember Lucia supporting the move when interviewed, just like every other wcha team.

Re: CCHA teams will join WCHA

Yeah, I'm dying with laughter over here.

I'm only laughing at the WCHA remnants (I'm looking at you SCSU, MTU, MSU-M, UAA, BSU) that were so bemoaning the evils of the Big Ten and NCHC doing what was only best for them and not looking out for the greater good of college hockey.

Now they've done the exact same thing.

Yesterday was a dark day for UAH.

My point exactly.
