'Cats Rule & Dogs Drool (I Hope): UNH, home & home with Northeastern, 2/25 - 26

Re: 'Cats Rule & Dogs Drool (I Hope): UNH, home & home with Northeastern, 2/25 - 26

NU always tough, seems like these two teams tie more than someone wins will settle for a tie since being in a two nothing hole. However unfortunate could have been 3-2 if not for the goal being disalowed, i had thought NU would have had a lapse this game but was mistaken , battle tested team , should be another close one tommorow , predict another tie 3-3.

About on par with your record in the HE playoffs the last 3 years

It was a serious question, smart guy. You seem to think that since Vermont got in the NCAA's last year as an 8 seed in Hockey East, that the Huskies have a shot too. Well, Vermont made it to the Garden and I believe they also had a very good OOC record last year which put them in a good position in the pairwise.

Northeastern should be very thankful they escaped with 1 point tonight. Aside from some sloppy play in the first period, UNH turned it up several notches and dominated play for very long periods of time. The Huskies goaltender was stellar tonight and made several key saves. That kid is **** good.

Just wondering, does anyone know why the UNH goal by Moses was called off? The puck didn't get covered, the ref called it a goal originally. I didn't hear a whistle but that doesn't mean there wasn't one.

From what they said in the update thread, the net was off...

Goumas jammed it in under the side of the cage.

Well on the left side of the net Stevie was the one pushing it in. :p

Didn't see either of these. Looked like it went between Rawlings' skate and the post. As for the net being off, play was stopped later in the period for the net being "off"...apparently by about a millimeter, because the linesman didn't actually adjust it when he came to check on it.

I would love to see a replay of it, but I guess we're going to have to take the ref's word that it went under the net.

Of course, even with the no-goal, UNH still had plenty of opportunities to win this game. Ugly night of hockey from the 'Cats.

It was Goumas. Moses scored the goal that counted (on an assist from Goumas).

Is it my imagination, or, in an attempt to even the effort between offense and defense, has the first line taken to coasting all the time?

Wish I couldn't agree.. but that line has looked relatively dead, with sparks of life over the last few weeks. Felt like Silengo/Sorkin/Burke/Hardowa line was more effective at the forecheck/ causing turnovers. Pretty disappointed to see a bunch of talented players finish their careers in such a manner. Sure DeSimone scored some last weekend, but all together effort has been really poor. Umile won't, but a line shake up might wake some people up.

sigh.. why can't NU hold a lead?.. regardless, they played quite well through 2. UNH is a good team & that showed in the tail end of the 2nd & parts of the 3rd period. Both goalies played quite well. 2 gms, 2 ties.. someone win tomorrow! :)

I thought the 2nd UNH goal went in off a NU player.. game of bounces.
Still, getting a point on the road against a top team..not all bad.

Nice comeback UNH.
Let's go NU, can we take 3 out of 4 pts..back to back wknds against the top of the league?.. we'll find out soon enough.
Go Huskies! :)

Once again Mike Hewkin comes to the rescue, of the opponent of course. Out there for both goals against, with the second one deflecting off him while he stumbles out in front of Rawlings.

Probably wouldn't have made any difference, but . . . with about 10 seconds left in the overtime with UNH buzzing around Rawlings, the puck went up into the netting behind the goal but neither the linesmen or refs blew the whistle. Should have lead to a faceoff to the side of Rawlings for possibly one more shot on goal.

Saw that, my seats are in the corner.

Discussion was, it went off a UNH player into the net, so wouldn't the faceoff come out of the zone?

What frustrated us was there were about 2 seconds where everybody stopped was like, "huh?" and then Moses grabbed the puck, and I saw him smirk and skate away with it. I think they waited for a whistle - something you should never do - and it cost them another chance at the net.

Last night was frustrating; somebody tell the 'Cats the game started at 7:30pm? That's when they finally showed up. They really, really dominated play (esp. Moses/Boris line) for long stretches, with nothing to show for it. Can they carry that over to the smaller ice at Matthews?

I thought Sislo played a physical game last night, maybe the most physical game I have seen him play, but besides that the line didn't do to much. Hopefully they will start to feel the pressure of the other lines stepping up and turn their game up a notch going into the playoffs, I still have faith in the line.

I Yes they need to take care of business in the playoffs, can't see them missing out 3 years in a row, SR class wont let that happen

Didn't UNH have senior classes the last two years, too?

Not entirely. The goal that counted was Goumas throwing it in front, hitting a Northeastern stick and going in.

Ah, I thought Moses got that one. Glad Goumas got it though. :)

Which of those senior classes was in danger of missing the Garden for three straight years?

To you nu dufus, called figure of speech sorry should have been more elaborate, unh as a team will not let that happen including the SR class which has not been to the center for three years, enough said

Lighten up a little... sheesh... I mean, we've only been to the garden once since it was built ("not counting the 'pot)....
