can a NU fan explain 1795 people in attendance? with the buzz the team has created (so i thought)with it's recent good play i would think the building would be somewhat close to full. what gives? it wasn't as if you were playing an unattractive opponent..............

NU is on break I believe

Props to UNH but wow did NU check out mentally tonight. No discipline and a multitude of open chances in the first period. Silva had a goal handed on a platter by McNeely, has the entire glove side open and tries to go backhand..he had another tap-in which hit the iron and MacLeod had quite a few open looks from the circles..UNH also had an open goal in the first....Rawlings also handed Thompson two goals but regardless he is dirty; I'm actually glad we lost because we got 'that' game out of the way hopefully. We were locked in for 6th anyway. Can't wait for BU weekend and then hopefully this team returns to vs. BC form for the playoffs.

It was a sloppy hockey game and the reffing was pathetic. DeSimone is such a piece of trash. Keep away you little girl, the Capitals don't need a wuss like you diving all over the place. Good thing this is the NCAA because if you pulled that crap in the NHL you would've been on your ***, and quick.

Haha, whatever you say. With a kid like your number 20 running around playing like freddy meyer (minus the skills) Friday night, it was hilarious to see him cost the huskies a good chance at a comeback putting them down 2 men for 2 full minutes.

Everyone knows that Dogs tear apart cats. This weekend will be no exception. UNH, have fun falling to 3rd place behind BC and Merrimack

Wow - you're a regular frickin' Nostra Damus. Good work. Let us know what stocks you're picking next week.

"No discipline."

Already got that covered. When Eibler took the slash on the face-off I was steaming.

I was more steaming when he tried to leg check Goumas and then seconds later cross checked him in the face.

Or when Thompson slashed Ferreiro on the face-off for no apparent reason but to "send a message."

But the worst was DeSimone flopping around like a soccer player all night. I'll give him this, he's a great actor. Looked like Vlade Divac.

It was my first visit to Matthews -- I was very impressed. Sure, there were a lot of empty seats, but I thought the students were noisy and at times hilarious. We were seated on the penalty box side, and the students in the balcony were entertaining, with their dissing of the UNH players in the box. I'm not sure how many the arena holds, but I'd bet it's raucous when full, given the fact that there isn't a concourse. I had a good time, and hey, it's always good to see a win on the other team's ice.

I can now say that I've seen a game* in every HE barn -- and every away game I've seen, UNH has won (excepting playoffs, necessarily.:( )

*I haven't seen UNH play at Providence, but did catch a Maine @ PC game a couple years ago.

The ’cats looked as good from the middle of Friday’s game and Saturday as they have in 2011. Saturday they played a crisp energetic game and took no crap from an always chippy NU team. They let the Huskies know they were there with physical skilled play, while staying smart. I don’t think they were ever caught taking the bait. (Kostolansky did nothing when called for hitting after the whistle when Daniels whacked him, but the referee was sending a message just after DeSimone and Eibler were sent to the box.)

Eibler’s slashing before the puck drop was as dumb a penalty as I can recall. The resulting 6 x 4 goal less than a minute into the 3rd period effectively ended the game.

First row balcony at Matthews is my favorite seat in all sport.

Congrats to UNH.. well played & you seized all the right opportunities tonight.
Hopefully we can get back on track nxt wknd.

Thanks for the cool post... NU is always really tough to play and always seem to have excellent goaltending (Rawlings after Thiessen??? Mercy). Good luck vs BU next weekend... you will have all of us rooting for your boys next weekend! :)

UNH usually draws a near sellout but Spring Break killed attendance. The game was a half inch from becoming extemely interesting. Quailer's backhand was filthy, beat DiGor clean to the inside of the other post. That would've been incredible.

I was at BC's season opener at Matthews, my first visit and it was sold out (4666) and it sure was raucous, great place

Re: 'Cats Rule & Dogs Drool (I Hope): UNH, home & home with Northeastern, 2/25 - 26

With regards to chippiness and players doing this, that, or the other.... it is what it is. You think Eibler's a hack? He spent a good amount of time in the box because of it.... and likely lost his team the game with what is likely the dumbest play in Hockey East this season. DeSimone is a diver? Certainly tougher to call, but he is no stranger to the box, either. I hate diving... but it is very hard for the refs to pick up sometimes. Also, I don't think it does you much service either (takes you out of the play mainly)... as it is a complete slap in the face of the ref (and the opponent).

UNH vs NU? Not much love lost there and I don't think UNH was just going to sit back and take what NU was dishing out without some sort of backlash. NU did not like it? That is to be expected. Tough. Refs having a bad night, too, did not make things easy on either team, either. NU did have 6 power plays, so they can't say they didn't have their chances (at one point it was NU with 4 PP advantages to UNH's 1).

Been there done that... DeSimone had the exact same thing happen to him in the Sat. game vs Merrimack a few weeks back... score would have been 4-3 if his had gone in and UNH would have been in the driver's seat with all the momentum. It found iron only and MC got the W. Hockey is a finicky game that is sometimes determined by fractions of inches. Crazy.

If it were Thompson shooting, it would have gone in ;) (both of his goals clanged off the post and into the net.)

Funny, you could make this about Eibler, and it would make sense. Kid enters checks with his hands/stick high.. every time.

I could not agree with you more. I was baffled. Late in the game, a UNH player (can't remember who) clearly tripped somebody, who was rushing with the puck, and it wasn't called. Inconsistent reffing is the worst, and I didn't blame NU fans for being upset with that.

1: I'll take his 'diving' over Eibler's idiocy any day. Seriously, slashing a player when waiting for a faceoff? I would have thrown his *** OUT -- and had a UNH player had done that, I'd say the same thing. 2: The NHL does a pretty good job of policing that kind of crap, so if DeSimone makes it to pro and actually is a 'diver' (and not just a skater who overcommits to a move and falls more than some, imo), he'll get what's his.

It would have tied it at 3-3, it was in the opening minutes of the 3rd, and the insurance goal was mid way, that was super frustrating!
