Canadian National Team

Re: Canadian National Team

Here's two more ... "new thread".;) If you'd like to continue to discuss a men's tournament on a women's forum, that would probably be a better place for it than cluttering up an Olympic Team thread. Thanks.:)

Check ur rep.

Re: Canadian National Team

WellI have to say that last night's game was probably the best at the World Juniors in a long, long time. Way to go Canada!:)

Yes it was a fantastic game. Edge of your seat action. Could have gone either way. In the end a shootout was needed to decide it. US had a lot of speed and that 17 year old goaler was fantastic.

He was, but the goalie at the other end was even better! :)

Disagree. IMHO the US goaler was better in the game. Technically more sound and covering the angles much better. He got beat on a couple of redirects and broken plays. Canadian goaler left open more net for shooters to shoot at. Overall the Canadian defense looked suspect against the speedy US forwards. Breakdowns in coverage and brutal giveaways cost them several goals.

Re: Canadian National Team

Down 4-2 with less than 10 minutes to play...are you kidding me! Another come-from-behind win for the Canadian Juniors. This game had everything. short handed goals, power play goals, disallowed goals, overtime and a shootout.

Hope both squads can make it through to the finals to set up another Classic matchup. :)

...and dont forget the penalty shot...and a few posts and cross bars...AWESOME game...great result...lotsa Canadian heart on that team...again.

Completely agree. That's what I think was one of the biggest equalizers in the game yesterday along with the USA's speed.

Campbell was far superior than Allen IMHO.

I dont know what Schroeder was thinking though trying to beat Allen the same way he beat him on the breakaway earlier in the game though in the shootout.

Thought that was a very poor choice by him for a guy that's supposed to be a seasoned veteran at these games and has a chance at taking over the all-time US junior goal scoring title from Roenick.

Re: Canadian National Team

Canada probably played the worst game they could possibly play and still won. Canadian heart won that game. To put blame on one US shooter is typical of a find one person to blame attitude that is so prevalent in sport today. This is a team sport and one play didn't decide it. Maybe the goal that should have counted would have saved that shooter from being blamed.
If Canada hopes to win this tournament, their game has to vastly improve, which it probably will.

I'm not putting the entire blame on Schroeder. It wasn't his fault they were in a shootout. The team lost their legs for the last 10 minutes of the game and got complacent. All i was saying I think Schroeder should have tried something different than the way he had already beaten Allen earlier in the game.

Their worst game possible huh? How about giving a little bit of credit to the US for playing a great 50 minutes and putting Canada on its heels at times with their speed and counterattacking ability.

Canada just played possibly the second or third best team in the tournament and still won and you're saying they need to vastly improve?

Typical Canadian arrogance much?

Watch out...the USA is quickly closing the gap when it comes to the Juniors. Maybe once the tournament is played on foreign soil for once next year Canada will falter and lose "the Canadian Junior Invitational" Tournament finally.

No comment to this required. You pretty much buried yourself all on your own.
With a population of over 300 million we knew all along that you'd get it figured out sooner or later. Congratulations. My eyebrows are up!

Re: Canadian National Team

Why is it that the US can't seem to hold a lead against Canada? That's twice in as many years the the US has held a 3-0 and 4-2 lead only to see it slip away... Is it conditioning, the hometown crowd or what?

Personally I doubt whether it matters where the games are played. I was in Grand Forks for the games and you might as well have been in Canada as far as the fan base was concerned. I doubt Buffalo will be much different.

Re: Canadian National Team

Also, the IIHF knows that if it wants a successful, high profile, sold out tournament, then Canada is the location of choice. Canada loves its hockey and supports it unequivocally.

Even at the junior level, TSN covers it like a blanket. Such professional coverage is unmatched anywhere in the world.

If you want good, entertaining, profitable hockey...come to Canada. (Now if that bonehead Bettman could just figure this out we could rid ourselves of those Phoenix, Atlanta, Tampa debacles!!)

P.S. Hey 5 4 Fighting...watch the Calgary/Leafs game tomorrow at the Saddledome...my son is one of the Calgary Firefighters on the ice with the national anthem singer. :D

Can't agree with you more on your comments. Can't beleive I said that :D. My son and I are heading over to Saskatoon tommorow to catch the balance of the Juniors and are trying to get there in time for the HNIC tilt. You must be very proud.

P.S. Hey Seymore...watch the Cardinal/Panther Classic...my daughters team is going to sweep! :)

Re: Canadian National Team

How crazy is that...in a 24 hour period - Can/US - Juniors and Womens Olympic teams both go to shootouts...unbelievable.

Well maybe I'm a little bit biased because he played the first two years of his QMJHL career here and saw him play pretty well for the Fog Devils. I know one thing. Watching this tournament and seeing Luke Adam and him play for Team Canada certainly makes me miss junior hockey here in the NL capital all the more.

5 4 Fighting you are right about the attendance in Buffalo next year too. There will be a pretty strong contingent there from Southern Ontario. You can bet on it.

Didn't Winnipeg host some of the pre-tournament games in 2005?
