Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

You must have great Thanksgivings.

Until about 20 years ago ours were a mess of left vs. right arguments. Somewhere along the way without even talking about we put aside the nonsense and now family gatherings are the #1 thing i miss back home.

I'd also say your Saudi oil comment is short sighted. Get off foreign oil (except Canada) and the effin Saudis can raise gas prices to 1 million dollars a gallon for all we care.

Who
Knew
Rover was pro-fracking and pro-Alaska drilling

(And in case you missed it, mittens lost)

That's great. One of the Leaps of Wisdom is realizing relationships > politics. Once we got everybody past (extended) adolescence my birth family figured that out too -- one of the few ways in which we don't all act like we were raised by ravening wolves.

I read it as a plea for renewables (which from Rover would actually surprise me more than some fracking gambit).

Works for me. Have you ever been to Western PA? Ohio? Texas? Why NOT frack these places? :D If the citizenry is cool with it, and don't mind dodging the earthquakes like they have to in OK, what do I care?

For the record, I see no need to frack Yosemite or the Grand Canyon like most cons want to do. However, why not frack already environmentally distressed places? If the entire state of New Jersey got fracked, what are we losing?

Yes, you of course need renewables. An interesting debate is going on here in Mass. Electricity prices are too high. State and utilities want to build bigger gas pipeline to bring in cheaper gas from PA. Hard core enviros say no - do more renewables instead. That's great, but since every renewable project gets protested (offshore wind farms for example) nothing gets built on a timely basis. In the meantime we still have high electricity rates. Tap the cheap gas while the decade long slog to get more renewables on line plays out. Its not an either/or situation.

Good. The only effective driver of conservation and technological advance is pain at the pump (or the socket).

Dumb. There are people living paycheck to paycheck who have no time for conservation and technological advances to take place. Those can happen while we lessen the burden on these people. Your comment smacks of elitism. Many times the very enviros pushing for clean energy protest when the clean energy inconveniences them. Offshore windmill power has been delayed for a decade by lawsuits. Hydro power from Canada is being blocked by people who don't want power lines going through their property.

Clean energy advocates can't be absolutists. If you get that way, majority of people will reject you and elected people like George W Bush President.

LOL. Oh, Rover. Just because your girl plays those games doesn't mean you get to.

I'm the guy who wants a guaranteed income and charity on steroids so poor people don't have to worry about paying for food, energy, or health care. You're the one who wants to keep the old system wheezing along, grinding everybody underneath who isn't a millionaire.

Your logic means the DNC keeps running GOP Lite candidates who half the country can't distinguish from Rich Uncle Pennybags. In consequences, that half of the country won't vote, because they rightly understand that both parties are screwing them raw.

You and your old war horses are essentially saying, "we're scared, Bluto. We might get in trouble. We can't have a real left because we're afraid of the right." But don't you see what that means? Election after election fought between the right and the center, meaning always being on defense.

I have to watch my hockey team do that, but for my politics I understand the only thing that stops a righty with plutocracy is a lefty with democracy.

We can inject Bernie vs Hillary into this if you'd like, but putting that aside since this campaign started you've become a lefty version of a Cruz supporter. An absolutist who thinks your righteousness will carry the day with the electorate. You're out of your mind if you think people living paycheck to paycheck and probably not wasting energy are going to happily vote to maintain higher energy prices while they wait for windmills to come on line. Its like Sanders loons thinking the working poor and middle class are going to take a 6-8% increase in their tax rates for the fuzzy goal of single payer health care. I mean, the old geezer will lose to Rick Santorum if he runs on that.

At some point you have to face the voters, and you can have your beliefs and be confident in the purity of your position, but if the rest of the people think you're nuts, you'll lose and you'll get nothing. Worse, you'll get any gains achieved thus far reversed. There's nothing wrong with increased natural gas production (which is what we're talking about here) while clean energy continues to grow in use. Its not like we're building new coal plants. The sooner you understand the politics of reality, the better off you're going to be regardless of what election cycle we're in and who the candidates are.

No Oxford comma? You heathen.

I hate AP style.

I worked for a while in Tech's communications department doing press releases, etc. They all demanded AP style, which specifies not to use the Oxford comma. I was educated all through school to use it and my boss had a crisis of conscience when she saw my first article and had to tell me to stop.

One of the things I'd do was a running list of research proposals in progress by the faculty. These things invariably had godawful titles like "Case Study of the Holistic Effects of Bananas, Grape Juice and Q-Tips on Elvis Presley and Mario and Luigi and Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches."
