There's a lot of media sensations...not rising stars. When Palin was called a rising star a few years back, it set about as low a bar as you can get.

Great am glad you asked. Simple. Hillary is not wonderful but she is a high powered politician. Bernie is a bit further afield...but even he has a host of policies and platforms put together. These two are legit presidential candidates. Unlike anything we've seen in modern times, GOP candidates (except those named Jeb) have no economic, social, etc. policy platforms - except to repeal everything that Obama has put in place. And temperament? So far the GOP field has been a children's playground. I can't imagine any of them running the country...or for that matter, cutting my hair.

The reason I think folks are focused on the GOP...is that its so bizarre and there appears to be potential for such a train wreck for the country based on the above.

Silly question, but haven't Bernie and Marty been in politics more than Mrs. C? She's only faced the voters twice in a general and maybe 10 times in primaries? Bernie and Marty have, I believe, more experience in the gutter politic.

But - the GOP race is way more transparent (and has higher ratings) that the DWS production of the Coronation of Hillary I, Queen of Potomac Bottoms.

I'd say plans are rather useless. How does one work a plan if the Saudi & their friends want to charge a $1 for gas? Or $1,000? Or if some group flies a plane into a building? Or if China stops buying t-bills? Or if Putin takes a vacation south? Or fill in the blank?

This is at te point where the US and their "leadership" is a reactionary force in the world. Don't see how any plan bern or hilly (or trump) even has a shelf life they envision at this time.

I would bet a serious amount of money that nobody running has anywhere the richness of Hillary's experience. She's seen as much of the White House as one can for someone running for president (to say nothing about decent experience in legislative and secretary roles of governing).

Your coronation comment does have validity.

True. Decision making is critical. But whose to say one is a better decision maker than another? How does one measure that? The number of comments coming from Hillary making me nervous are dwarfed by those coming from [enter GOP candidate here].

But additionally, there is something to be said for a candidate telling us his/her policy intentions. We would like to have some idea what we're buying here.

The Kardashians get higher ratings than Sherlock and Game of Thrones combined, that doesn't make it better.

And of course the train wreck will get more attention than a smoothly running machine. You might as well be saying people should rubber neck at smooth traffic flows instead of the ten car pileup.

How about plans for current events? How a candidate will handle Syria is important. As in, lets not do another ground war in the Middle East. Mittens amongst his many screw ups was the notion we should still be fighting the Iraqis war for them. People are done with that. It sounds good in the abstract, but as soon as troops start getting mobilized to go people would go berserk.

I'd also say your Saudi oil comment is short sighted. Get off foreign oil (except Canada) and the effin Saudis can raise gas prices to 1 million dollars a gallon for all we care.

Sadly, no. The lofo Kumbaya lives in Indianapolis, and the Teabagger lives in Florida. We don't see the Florida uncle much (once a year at most, and never at Thanksgiving). They both used to live to Michigan, and while they have probably met once or twice over the years, they are from opposite sides of my family tree, and I would like to think that my mom and dad have done a good job of minimizing their interactions. Believe me, I've imagined the fireworks if they ever got to talking too much. :)

I would tell you about how the Kumbaya's three daughters, my cousins of course, turned out. It's pretty funny how diverse their lives are, but this isn't the thread for that.
