The Establishment is firing its guns for Hillary

But people, you're not electing Bill. 1992 was almost a quarter century ago!
On the MSNBC coverage of the blizzard, they had Luke Russert in DC. He said that next year at this time the Inauguration would be happening and hopefully the weather would be better. He then said that usually the President and the First Lady would be in the parade but next year it will be the President and the First Gentleman. Maybe Priceless will stop back and explain again how MSNBC is a real news organization and not just the left version of Fox.

I'm not sure it's "confused" as much as it is they underestimated the anger.

As others have noted, there are two segments of the Republican party. There is the less affluent, less educated portion that gladly supports Republican positions because in part the establishment threw them a few bones on the social issues, and in part because even though these people may be very poor, they still actually believe in the American Dream, that a person can raise themselves up to be fabulously wealthy. These people are angry. They don't like being called religious nuts or rightwingers or knuckledraggers or whatever other names the opposition or media want to drag out. They are angry because they haven't yet achieved the American Dream, personally, and believe that is due at least in part to government policies that transfer wealth to people they perceive as poor Democrats.

It kinda sounds like what has happened in the past in the middle east (i.e., an angry Saudi underclass that has its hatred directed by mullahs towards the US). An underprivileged class that should be angry at the moneyed classes (or better yet use the energy to improve their lives) have their hatred focused on the Dems by the rightwing media.

You can move

Can't you move? This isnt Russia. Is it?

Why does anyone need to stay in their state? States don't matter anymore. Those rights left us 150yrs ago

Remember that once you move you have a set of politicians in your new state. Is it not a big deal what your new state's political make up is?

Its why I think I'd put my state's politicians (which is the state where I reside) slightly above the president in importance.

It's similar to what happens in autocracies when there are food or energy shortages. The ruling junta will gin up a war or a "social emergency" or some other distraction. So we have Putin menacing the Near Abroad or talking about the threat of homosexuality to public morals.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

I've become a big Iowa basketball fan the last few weeks. Not only because they're playing great, but because their games get spammed by political commercials. A few PACs are going after Rubio, a couple after Cruz. Hillary's is fear mongering against the Republicans, and Bernie is off in his corner going off on the rich and his new one with Simon and Garfunkel. Surprisingly none directly speaking out against Trump.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

I still find it amusing that more prominent Republicans would take Trump over Cruz (TNR notwithstanding). Not that I would disagree if you put a gun to my head, but I'm hardly their target demographic anymore.

Saw a good article about this, which was that Trump is someone you can do business with while Cruz is not. Not sure where that rational comes from as I would think of Trump as more of a wild card.

This article is great about the National Review vowing to take him down... :D

Bob Dole said that a week or so ago. The prevailing logic is along the lines of Cruz being an absolutist, but Trump, for all the wild things he says, will look to cut a deal somehow and in some way, that Trump is more of a pragmatic man when it comes down to executing the job.

To me, they're both nuts, only in different ways.

Cruz is a predictable crazy. Trump is an unpredictable crazy.

I disagree. Trump is a predictable panderer who is willing to cross lines on the campaign trail to get votes, but doesn't really buy into it.

Cruz is nakedly politically ambitious, but I don't think anyone besides himself knows what his end game is.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Not a fan of the tone of the article, but the #'s thrown around are interesting in terms of single payer...

http://www.bloombergview.com/articl...lyEDx1UdMV5bWdjMuaTW1WgvjYsM4A&_hsmi=25472593

though perhaps he is merely saying that you will no longer have to fight with your insurer over treatments, because you’ll be able to fight with a government bureaucrat instead
This can't be said too many times

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

What struck me the most about the article, which I'm not taking as gospel, was the cost of healthcare outside of the government's contribution that Sanders plan covers. From what I read, beyond the 1.3T the feds pay, there's another 1.7T outside of that. If he's covering everything: co-pays, up to the out of pocket maximum, dental, etc etc - that extra 1.7T needs to be paid for. Single payer interests me, but if its going to become a reality I'd like to see a rebuttal to the points brought up here.

I thought the ACA signups website guy had the best idea. The notion was you can't do a Big Bang conversion to single payer. You'd have to do it incrementally because of existing contracts and the costs of implementation. If you gradually lowered the Medicare age, (to 64 one year, then down to 62 the next, etc) you might have a better chance of achieving that with far less costs.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

I'm usually loathe to link to Mother Jones articles, but this is essentially a compendium of links to other places discussing why everyone hates Cruz.

It's amazing that's there's somebody who Bob Dole and Dubya hate. Those guys have their faults, but being b1tchy isn't one of them -- Dole in particular is practically Will Rogers.

I'm inclined to believe Cruz is one of the greatest *******s in history. The thing you have to remember about these quotes is most of these people deal with *******s all day every day. For Cruz to rise to Olympian standards among them is awe-inspiring.

He also seems to not care a whit how much he's disliked, which points to a sociopathy/personality disorder... even more so than most politicians, I mean. He actually scares me more than Trump, who is a simple entitled blowhard looking for power to wield and adoration from the masses (in fact I know someone who is so much like Trump that I almost feel I can understand him). Cruz though, might be a serial killer.

I haven't much of a clue about national politics, and I know you don't win the WH without big money--far more than you can get from Joe Murrica. But won't Cruz wear this like a badge of honor--that the old political and academic guard cannot stand him because he doesn't act the way they think he should act and will not play by their rules? Again, I know he needs big money to play, but I would think he will just pitch all this a proof that he's the only one out there who has shown he is not sleeping with the enemy.
