Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Oh, yes it was. And in (4) years it will be in every state when Trump gets reelected.

And the people who no longer get to vote and the Dems who rely on them will have no one to blame but themselves.

Many people's right to vote was on the ballot yesterday and early reporting suggests that minorities did not come out yesterday in the same numbers as four years ago.

It's very likely that non-minority Dems didn't either, which will impact them and their concerns for years to come.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

I do feel for those who those of you who are so very disappointed in the results and offer my empathy. I myself was disappointed already in July so what ever happened yesterday I wasn't going to be more so. I have found though throughout my life that the vast, vast, majority of people I've met are very good souls and those who have real nefarious intent are truly few and far between. Trump and Clinton are both just people and despite all the negative rhetoric surrounding them both, whoever won the presidency I have thought they each (or anyone) would try to do their best for the country. And as it is that Trump won, I feel it best for myself to try and think that way about him now.

Do you have a single piece of evidence from any point in his life that leads you to believe Trump would try to do the best for anyone other than himself? Because I could show you hundreds of pieces of evidence to the contrary.

As far as the intentions of people, I heard from a lot of people last night saying just because they supported Trump doesn't mean they were racist or bigoted. I do believe that is true in the sense that most people aren't actively, virulently racist. But last night proved conclusively that the majority of white simply just don't care about the civil rights of minorities. If drawing that narrow definition helps people feel better about themselves, so be it. But ultimately, the end result is the same, so they're just as complicit.

They weren't able to vote therefore they should've voted! You can't make this up...

Bullying pays. That's what I learned yesterday. If you're the bully you're in a good spot. If you're not the bully, good luck with your life.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

My biggest concern are voter suppression efforts. They have 4 years to get them inacted at a state level and should have a favorable justice department and judiciary who won't challenge or overturn them.

Some of those who didn't bother to vote this year may not even have the opportunity in 2020.

We need to bust our *** the next 4 years to make sure EVERYONE in our community has an ID (because you know that requirement is coming) and an opportunity to vote. **** them. We know that battle is coming. Let's be ready for it. We know what many of the voter suppression tactics are. Don't get caught off guard.

Someone should start a NGO that helps poor and other marginalized groups obtain their government-issued ID cards and pay for it if it is a financial hardship.

I know I plan on getting more involved in politics at the local level. Seriously, **** the redneck hillbillies that are holding our country hostage. I vow to make more of a difference in the future.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Congress (see: Article I) should be the most important body at the Federal level, not the Executive (Article II).

Maybe they'll get, or be forced (if Trump goes off the rails), off their shiny leather seats.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Just realized ... no Trump TV.

Instead, it'll be called "Special Report" or "The Situation Room". Same cast.

Agreed. My sympathy for others is crapping the bed. When people in Michigan complain about the water I will just ignore it. When people in Wisconsin tell me how their education system is going broke and the economy is tanking I will just point to the fact that they had a chance to stop all this and chose not to. When the Southern states are broke and have no health care or safety net to help them, I will look the other way. And so help me god if one flipping BernieBro says something to me...

No one I know liked Clinton that much...but everyone voted for her over the alternative.

I think I mentioned this last night. But since Vietnam, my dad hasn't voted for a Republican. Last night was my Vietnam. I can't, in good conscience, vote for a Republican as that party sat by and watched a bigot subvert their party and reach the White House. Nixon's Southern Strategy is coming to fruition.

This.

I'm done feeling bad for anyone else.

Systemic racism is way worse than in your face racism. You nailed it.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

They won't be available. They'll be in the Cabinet.

That's what I'm saying. --> "Same cast."

"Special Report" is the Fox News Channel nightly news show; "Sit Room" is Wolfy on CNN; those'll be all Trump and his cast.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

What if Clinton comes out and calls for recounts in FL and PA and MI? It matters.

Recount are triggered by state law. Typically the first count has to be within 0.5%. I know NH is, but I don't think any of the others are.
