Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

From an article in today's WaPo on how the media missed it.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...3-11e6-8042-f4d111c862d1_story.html?tid=a_inl

“The media is always taking Trump literally. It never takes him seriously, but it always takes him literally,” Thiel said. Journalists wanted to know exactly how he would deport that many undocumented immigrants, or exactly how Trump would rid the world of the Islamic State. We wanted details.

But a lot of voters think the opposite way: They take Trump seriously but not literally.

They realize, Thiel said, that Trump doesn’t really plan to build a wall. “What they hear is, ‘We’re going to have a saner, more sensible immigration policy.’ ”

I have very little confidence in 2020 as well. It wasn't talked about nearly enough--because emailz, I guess--but ISIS really wanted, possibly even needed, Trump to win. They need to provoke that Us vs. Them Holy War they keep promising is coming to bolster their flagging numbers, and they weren't going to get that with an adult in charge in the US. It's not going to take a very big spark for things to turn very badly very quickly.

Combine that with the increase in crime that is guaranteed to come when the safety net gets washed away from people and there's going to be more than enough fear to elect another authoritarian candidate, even if it is against most everyone's self interests. I don't think Trump could handle running again, but I suspect we'll see one of his awful kids on the ballot.

The only way I see people really turning is if the police overstep their new mandate and start murdering our valued citizens.

My biggest concern are voter suppression efforts. They have 4 years to get them inacted at a state level and should have a favorable justice department and judiciary who won't challenge or overturn them.

Some of those who didn't bother to vote this year may not even have the opportunity in 2020.

You know who is happiest Putin. The only thing that will keep Russia afloat is another Cold War...he just got one.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Someone at work is already saying that Trump won't get anything done because of the media. The same media that he is unable to see got him elected in the first place.

My buddy (a GOPer not for Drumpf but hates Hillary) said "the GOP in Congress hates him, they wont let him do anything". He knows better he is just rationalizing...

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Hillary to speak shortly is what I'm hearing.

Obama to speak about 11:15 CT. <-- Just realized he picked a time to interrupt Rush Limbaugh's day-after full-rant monologue. :D

That is going to be a very interesting dynamic to watch play out. The Rs that were #NeverTrump are going to have a very interesting time.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Apparently Senator Paul was on Morning Joe this morning. The first piece of legislation will be to repeal all the Obama regulations and executive orders and he said, Trump will sign it.

Next I imagine Obamacare.

After that we can forget he was ever President. Especially when the Republicans get their way on the Supreme Court which will be lost forever.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

I don't believe that the ability to vote was an issue yesterday.

I believe that the enthusiasm to vote was.

I don't know what bubble many of you live in, but I live in maybe the blue-ist county in the Midwest and I still have lots of friends and relatives who are diehard Republicans/conservatives and they never wavered in their opposition to Hillary.

I'm surprised by this result, but not shocked.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Well seeing as the swing states all had voter suppression laws and one of them outright bragged about suppressing the black vote by 6%, it might've been more of an issue than you think. And I'm not saying lack of enthusiasm had nothing to do with it because it probably did as well (esp millenial voters).

edit: I shouldn't say all the swing states, WI, OH, and NC

Oh, yes it was. And in (4) years it will be in every state when Trump gets reelected.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

The problem is - his lunatic supporters do expect him to build an actual wall, and deport immigrants, etc. What's the reaction going to be when he says "This is my more sane and sensible immigration policy!"

if it works? prolly positive.

They won't care.
