Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Trust me I hope you are right...but Obama didnt preach hate to get elected. It isnt the policies of Drumpf I worry about (like say Romney or McCain) it is the wave of anger and hatred he used. He stirred something up and I am not sure we can put the genie back in the bottle.

We elected the bully. Having been bullied when I was a kid in the days when the kid that got bullied was blamed for the bullying I understand fully how this can happen. Makes me sad. I hope Melania actually follows through and makes anti-bullying her issue. I think coming from her it may actually do some good.

Trump didn't conjure it up.
It's been there in the political geology since Wall Street recovered from 2008 but the Rust Belt (where Trump cleaned up) didn't.

Trump mined it.
He found the right drills* and mined it.

* #MAGA, "Build the wall", "Lock her up", "Bad trade deals!"

Right I was thinking the exact same thing. Romney or McCain look like Obama compared to who just got elected. I'm sure people would've said the world is gonna end if either of those two got elected (Scooby) but this is not even in the same ballpark or sport for that matter.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

This isnt about Rural vs. City...this is about the the Dems not voting for her. Her numbers were down in every Dem stronghold. even where she won, it was significantly less than Obama.

Ohio tells the story of the upper Midwest. Her numbers were down in part because reliable labor/ union Dem's crossed over in a way similar to the way they did for Reagan, plus in cities like Cleveland, Dem's didn't turn out with any sort of enthusiasm at all for her.

I do feel for those who those of you who are so very disappointed in the results and offer my empathy. I myself was disappointed already in July so what ever happened yesterday I wasn't going to be more so. I have found though throughout my life that the vast, vast, majority of people I've met are very good souls and those who have real nefarious intent are truly few and far between. Trump and Clinton are both just people and despite all the negative rhetoric surrounding them both, whoever won the presidency I have thought they each (or anyone) would try to do their best for the country. And as it is that Trump won, I feel it best for myself to try and think that way about him now.

I thought Trump started off on a good foot with his short speech last night where he appeared fairly humble, set rhetoric aside, and made comments about reaching out to opponents for help and bringing the country together. That's a pretty tall order given the extreme polarization we have, though. In any case, the country will survive and go on.

Interested to see what Hillary will say this morning.

I have very little confidence in 2020 as well. It wasn't talked about nearly enough--because emailz, I guess--but ISIS really wanted, possibly even needed, Trump to win. They need to provoke that Us vs. Them Holy War they keep promising is coming to bolster their flagging numbers, and they weren't going to get that with an adult in charge in the US. It's not going to take a very big spark for things to turn very badly very quickly.

Combine that with the increase in crime that is guaranteed to come when the safety net gets washed away from people and there's going to be more than enough fear to elect another authoritarian candidate, even if it is against most everyone's self interests. I don't think Trump could handle running again, but I suspect we'll see one of his awful kids on the ballot.

The only way I see people really turning is if the police overstep their new mandate and start murdering our valued citizens.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Kansas is no longer the poster child for "voting against self interest". WI watched a Republican crater their economy and tripled down by voting in Senators and Reps who are Republican and Michigan watched the GOP nickle and dime their state to the point that lead pipes are poisoning people...and they doubled down and voted GOP for President. Congratulations Michigan and Wisconsin...Kansas welcomes you!

We are all Kansans now.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

I'm hearing Trump (clearly pandering to them) got the biggest fraction of Evangelical voters of any Presidential candidate ... ever.

Hillary won college educated women by 6. The polls had her at 24. Whups. And she lost college ed men!

It was the debate where he said babies were being ripped out of wombs that did it. Congrats.

Whether inside the family or not, we will see copycats up and down the ticket. Whatever sells is imitated.

I agree that is why I said he "stirred it up". It was there growing in the yard and he watered it and fertilized it and now it is everywhere.

Someone at work is already saying that Trump won't get anything done because of the media. The same media that he is unable to see got him elected in the first place.
