Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

This NY Times map gives a pretty good idea of how and why Trump won.

http://www.nytimes.com/elections/re...on®ion=span-abc-region&WT.nav=span-abc-region

Well they TPaw then too...Dayton isnt going to just sit back and look the other way. Of course then I am sure he will get voted out because things are terrible here unlike WI where Walker has things humming.

Kansas is no longer the poster child for "voting against self interest". WI watched a Republican crater their economy and tripled down by voting in Senators and Reps who are Republican and Michigan watched the GOP nickle and dime their state to the point that lead pipes are poisoning people...and they doubled down and voted GOP for President. Congratulations Michigan and Wisconsin...Kansas welcomes you!

Yeah. Early on there was concern about VA, but it was pretty clear there were cracks in the wall in MI and WI. When I noticed western WI hadn't come in (esp La Crosse and Superior) I felt better. Obama had carried western WI fairly soundly. But it didn't go that way.

So this NYT map shows where the damage was done. On the fifth slide, it clearly shows that western WI was ground zero.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Yeah...this election proves that unless the candidate is inspiring (see: Obama) this country is not left of center.

I thought the people who thought Michelle Obama was a "Gorilla" were in the minority...last night proved they werent.

I thought this country was smart...but working class whites just elected a man who has spent most of his career screwing over working class people.

Trump (Republicans) is losing and will lose the popular vote...again. Someone else pointed out that the Donald is going to get fewer votes than Romney and possibly McCain. I backed Hillary, but this again might have been more to do with her and the fickleness of younger voters than American being a "center-right" country.

So the most popular candidate will have lost 40% of the elections since 2000. Great system. Glad some yokels in the ... UP can decide this.
Losing 60% of 2012 Dem counties is what lost Michigan. A much larger area of Lansing, Kalamazoo, Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City were blue in 2012. That's where Michigan lost.

Not because Sue Ellen's three welfare check boys in Ontonogan were now old enough to vote, but because Bay City and Saginaw felt that a con man represented their interests better than Hillary.

As I kept trying to say (and everyone always jumped all over me), Hillary was not a good candidate and democrats made a poor choice in the primaries.

We're not center right. The entire country is red. And that red is nothing close to center anything.

I still firmly believe that Hillary was a good choice for president. Unfortunately we don't live in the America I thought we did. I'm just at a loss.

I think Hillary may have been a fine president on policy, but you need to be a good candidate as well ( in terms of electability) and that is where Hillary is lacking.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

I guess I live in a bubble. 72% of the people in my town voted for Clinton. It just seems unfathomable to me that so many people support what Trump stands for.

I'm worried about what is going to happen under a Trump presidency, but I'm more upset to live in a country that would elect someone like him. I think someone else said they don't believe in America anymore. I feel the same way. I am seriously worried about the country my son will have to grow up in.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

There is one saving grace.

They're in total control of everything now. Everything that happens after Jan. 20th is their fault. Enjoy Republicans. Governing is hard.

You would think the man whose stump speech includes the phrase "We just don't win anymore. When I'm elected we're gonna win so much" wouldn't be a good candidate either, yet here we are.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Republicans are back in power in Minnesota.

Last time they passed a gay marriage ban, a voter ID law, and ****canned the credit rating. Can hardly wait to see what they do this time.

maybe another free football stadium?!?!?!?!

I'll second this. Republicanism has been built on the twin ideas of "No!" and "if we had control, we'd make sure (policies x,y,z) were enacted, but y'know, those dems".

The Republicans have been playing the backup QB role with their constituents for eight years, and now they just got handed the keys to the program.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Here is what they will work on.

Abortion.
Voter ID.
Religious Freedom Laws (see Indiana)
The Wall

It's all about maintaining power. Those (4) things will help them maintain power. In 8 years this country will be a very different place.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXV: Fin

Yeah, they can reinstate the Bush Tax Cuts that sunsetted I guess.

I wonder what the reaction is going to be when the debt is 30 trillion after Trump's first two years in office?

Gutting Medicare and Social Security. And Education, but that's like $22.57 by comparison

Yeah, that's right. That's Ryan's plan. Unfortunately with what happened to money in the 2000's I'm going to need Social Security. I guess I'm doomed. Oh, well. I can hope for a surprise death before I am too old to work.
