Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Pop

Oh, and apparently trump's new nickname is Cheeto Jesus.

I like it.

The whole rant is spectacular. This is Rick Wilson, for God's sake. He's basically Mr. Republican Consultant.

1/ How the actual f-ck does anyone at the RNC have standing to act shocked that Trump is not doing the basics of campaigning?

2/ You can't elide over his utter dipsh-ttery. No matter how much you try to act surprised, you own this. You're covered in his stench.

3/ History will be so cruel to you.

4/ Your off the record sniping and grumbling is no substitute for moral courage. That's so DC.

5/ You won't escape the stain. It's like a big, visible "No Ragrets" chest tat that will mark your careers forever.

6/ Go public. Man up. Show courage. Say what's in your hearts; he's insane. He's poison. He's doomed. He's killing the Party.

7/ None of you are good enough to spin the unspinnable ratf-ck that is Trump. None of you can say, "I was just following orders."

8/ This weekend, people were lined up hundreds deep to give blood to the victims of Orlando. Your Cheeto Jesus was praising himself.

9/ There is no better Trump. There is not Presidential Trump. He is a vile stain on the this Republic.

10/ Your resumes will always read "Worked for a batsh-t crazy crypto-fascist who destroyed the GOP"

Oh my god. That is amazing.

Tis the season to sandbag. The only question is, CAN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY RECOVER?!?!?!?!?!?

I think they eventually can, but the short-term results will be painful. It will require a partial repudiation of their current derp - definitively reversing their anti-gay views with platform language that emphasizes individual freedoms, while making it clear that with respect to the 1st Amendment, they will not force conservative houses of worship to perform same-sex marriages. They will also have to affirm so-called "open border" or amnesty policies, for illegal individuals and families who have not been convicted of a violent crime.

They can still hang onto their so-called "pro-life" platform for now, since many Latinos/Hispanics are Catholic. I think a particularly savvy and charismatic candidate could tie "life" into the gun control debate, but obviously one has not emerged yet.

As far as economics, I actually think they can continue to sell the usual Reagan/trickle-down BS for the foreseeable future, assuming they reverse course on some of the social derp that the American public is rejecting in this century. I'm open to arguments otherwise.

All the West Michigan guys were Cruz nutters. That's the heart of 'Thumper territory in MI.

He's been there 30 years, but it's only +1 in the CPVI, so he has to pretend.

(I also interviewed him when I was covering the Western Herald for an election , and the Dems weren't even trying anyway. Took me 2-3 weeks to get a hold of the D running for the spot.)

Well there I go, looking like Kepler with my smeary assumptions. I guess I learned from the best? ;)

That is sad, and an indictment of the state Democratic organization. If he's really only a CPVI +1, I'm shocked that he hasn't been primaried by a Teabagger.

Here in MI-8, I would love to flip Mike Bishop, assuming that his challenger isn't a nutbar.

yeah, the GOP will recover. Do we see the Dem party laboring under the cloud of John Kerry?

Its been interesting to see that Trump isn't going presidential. It just goes to show that the Trump we saw in the Republican party was not a clever scheme, but rather Trump just being Trump.

Turkey has not been the subject of much discussion in this campaign, but it should be. This guy Erdogan was once a bit of a shining star, democratically elected and with goals of economic expansion and making his country a player in the EU. But he is consolidating power, while reversing many of the policies Attaturk created to establish a secular government. At the same time, he is aggressively shutting down free speech inside his borders. Turkey is of key importance to the U.S., Russia, the Balkans, and all of the players in the middle east. Serious stuff. I would kill to hear what Trump has to say about that situation.

You take your dictators where you find them?? No more regime changes, please.

Agreed, but there will be some well-thought statesmanship in order there, I'm afraid.

Mugabe started out a hero.

I always wonder with these guys whether it's them changing, showing their true spots, or in riding the tiger of ambitious, unscrupulous power-seekers under them they morph slowly into despots to keep control (and alive).

First DWS sidelined by a dynamic, young, smart guy. Now a return to the 50-state strategy. This has been a very good week for the future of the DNC.

Aides say (Clinton) recognizes how much thinner the Democratic bench has become over the last seven years — having seen longtime allies lose their seats — and wants the trend reversed.

“I think it is important to lay a foundation for the future,” said Marshall, who has worked in the Obama administration and pushed Dean’s 50-state strategy as an organizing staff member in Kansas in 2005. “State House members are going to be your next folks running for Congress or running for governor, and one of them may be your next president of the United States.”

Clinton’s approach is also born from a belief that institutions, more than personalities, form the basis for political progress — that even the most moving rhetoric runs up against the procedural rules of the House and Senate.

“The 50-state strategy worked. It gave us the majorities in the House and the Senate, and then it was abandoned because Obama chose to go with OFA [Organizing For Action], which did not work, and the DNC scaled way back on it,” Dean, a supporter of and consultant to Clinton’s campaign, told HuffPost. “But I’m very pleased it is going to be rebuilt. I think they totally get that her legacy depends on having a Democratic Congress and that she has to start now.”

Good. More, please.

Robert Kagan, who never met a Muslim he didn't want to waterboard, has it in for Herr Trump.

Will the Republican Party that made Donald Trump its prospective nominee protect us from Trump when he is president? Even as they call him a “textbook” racist and acknowledge his scant regard for the rule of law, Republican leaders assure voters that the U.S. system of checks and balances will contain their candidate’s authoritarian impulses. Congress and the judicial system will keep Trump under control.

History and recent events suggest that is a risky proposition. Inflamed popular passions and overreaching presidents have at times not been checked. Presidents have ignored Supreme Court rulings; and the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 and 1918, Jim Crow, the mistreatment of German Americans during World War I and of U.S. citizens and noncitizens of Japanese descent during World War II, and the investigations of Sen. Joseph McCarthy all showed how a frightened, angry or simply bigoted majority could deprive individuals of their rights despite the Constitution’s checks and balances. That those rights were eventually restored is no cause for satisfaction: The damage done was permanent.

When Cato and CAP and PNAC all agree that a candidate is a menace to the Constitution, perhaps people should... listen?

I'd bet most Trump supporters DGAF who the Green Hornet's driver votes for.

A platform plank that will clinch the election for dT:

"Send twitter back to hell."

" . . . frightened, angry, or simply bigoted majority." Idiocy so often has that boogey man aspect to it. Muslims are coming to blow you up; homos are coming to ruin the institution of marriage (fallback plan--they first tried to kill us all with disease); Mexicans and the lazy poor are coming to steal your take-home pay; intellectuals are coming to shame and deceive you; the government is coming to tell your grandma when she must die.
