I think that's accurate. I'm loving how all of the unstated racism and basically screwy policies of the GOP are now coming home to roost in the form of a guy who's saying out loud what's previously only been whispered at private think tanks and other such get togethers.

Having said that, my prediction is that Trump does about as well as McCain in 2008. Basically the GOP hit the same amount of votes in 2004, 2008 and 2012. Aside from voters who've passed away, anybody who voted for Mittens is probably voting for Trump. The trick is who shows up on the Dem side? The base coalition that put Obama over the top in 2012, or a much larger showing like 2008? The closer Hillary gets to 2008 levels, the more tenuous the GOP's grip on the House becomes. As far as flipping states goes, I'll believe AZ or GA when I see it. Until then, I can't see her winning any McCain states.

First of all, presidents are not from the wings of the party. Bernie and Cruz don't get elected.

Second to Scooby's point, Reagan, HW Bush, GW Bush and Trump have all been for 'healthy' sized government. (Edit: and Nixon, Ford and Eisenhower).

You're exactly right. There is no conservative party in the U.S. and there hasn't been for a generation. Trump is just exposing that fact a little more openly. But GW was fairly transparent as a liberal too.

Reagan did. He was about as far out on the right of the 70s GOP as Bernie is out on the left of the current Democratic party.

For that matter, Carter was about as far out on the right of the 70s Democratic party as Bernie is now to the left.

Presidents can be nominated and elected from the wings.

It's kind of funny but also makes me sad how The Donald is making Chris Christie fetch his Big Macs from McDonald's. The video has not yet been released but there are reports here and there.

He's bitter because we didn't do enough in Syria and we're not at full scale ground war against ISIS. His affinity for the Middle East along with his buddy Lindsey Graham rest on the creepy side of the scale.

he should have retired after 2008. Then he could have gone out as a respected (if there is a term) politician.

Too late by then -- he was bad on Iraq. He needed to go after the Familia Bush knee-capped him in SC.

I'm not that tall. Lepage blew it in his first week in office. He is good for winding up all the dems who have had control of the state legislature for 40 years yet he is too blame for everything that is wrong.

Hopefully The Donald let Christie get one for himself too, or he'll be very sad.

Dang, this election is closer than it seems. If Trump picks up between 5%-7% of NCEW, it's over Johnny.
