We should not discount charisma. Obama had it, even in 2012. Hillary has all the passionate appeal of a door knob.

The good news is Jeb!, Walker and Rubio are also knobs, door or otherwise.

Maybe. I think both Jeb and Rubio are neutral on charisma...jmho. When they were on, nobody running could hold a candle to B Clinton, Reagan, or BHO.

My impression of True Old Money is minions do not register on their consciousness at all. They don't take any sadistic joy in watching us trapped in the carrot/stick machine -- they're probably in Gstaad or Corfu but if they're here at all they're at the Met opening or watching Pierpont IV ("J.P.") graduate from Philips Exeter.

They do not think badly of us. They do not think of us at all.
Their is tons of old money in Maine on MDI, specifically Northeast Harbor and Somes Sound. Ive met some of them doing work on a dock that caters to their sailboats. Nice folks compared to the Aholes with new money.

You get the right Veep candidate to go along with The Cyborg and she will be fine.

Hot dogs get K&M. Brats and sausages are grown up food therefore they get just mustard.

I spent one high school summer cutting lawns for several old money families out on Long Island. I had the same experience: they ran the same personality curve as everybody else, but they tended to be polite, very interesting -- they had gone everywhere and met everybody, and they were the only people I have ever met who had nothing to prove.

The kids tended to be *******s, but, meh, kids are *******s.

I've always figured people should just eat food the way they like it best. Not sure why that's so hard for people to accept.

Unless, of course, someone puts ketchup on a steak. In that case they should be chained to a bumper and driven right down Main St.

So, you think they're going all in on boring establishment for 3 elections in a row? I don't think so.

When is the last time they didn't? By the time McCain got the nod he was the status quo, the Bushes were right in line, could possibly argue Reagan was initially a step aside.

They'll do whatever Bilderberg tells them to do. After Romney "won" the first debate, he was blackmailed into throwing the second debate by the global elite. The only way GOP wins is if they put up someone as totalitarian as Obummer.

I don't think you know what that word means.

Still waiting on Obama to declare martial law and get a third term eh Flaggy. God it must suck being wrong (and crazy) all the time :D

Hillary will do that since she's far more ruthless than Obama. I figure it'll take about 6 months to secretly build the gulags, another month to declare martial law, and then we'll come for Flaggy...;)

Steyn is a preening demagogue but that's actually not a terrible piece. Maybe if he spent a little more time reading lefty sources rather than pontificating about them he'd realize that there's always been a strain of nativism hiding just below the surface of lefty populism. Sanders' position on job protection is right out of the WFTU liner notes from 1973 (which is honestly where I expect Bernie got almost all his ideas... goodness he's adorable).

The opening Kaus quote though is hilarious and exactly on point (Steyn is like O'Rourke; his best lines are always his quotes of other people): open borders advocates are:
... the entire Democratic party, half the Republican party, half (secretly) of the politicians who claim to represent the other half of the Republican party, virtually the entire press (including Fox), virtually all of business, and virtually all big money political donors (including the Kochs!).
