Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

I wonder if The Donald is more in touch with the electorate on immigration than the rest of (both) fields?

Yes, because if it's one thing Americans are its shy and afraid to speak their mind. Trump represents one of the myriad of lunatic fringes that sane people laugh at. There is room in America for leaders outside the mainstream, but "Assholes Are We" is not a sustainable platform.

Scott Walker is in.

It's all over but the crying.

And yet you will still cry when Walker does worse than your last pick Mittens ;)

Walker is making a mistake, he should wait. This clown show is not going to help him in any way and if he gets the nod and gets trounced by Hillary he is just another Paul Ryan.

Having a shot at a major party nomination is like having a shot at the playoffs -- you've always gotta take it because it may be your last chance. Candidates who had a real shot but waited too long include Bradley, Cuomo, and Ted Kennedy. But for the grace of a few kids in Tehran, Reagan would have been among them.

Walker's got about a 25% chance of the GOP nomination. Any time you're that close to the Big Enchilada you have to try.

Add Christie to the list. He could have cleaned Mittens clock the last election. Instead he waited to long and now he's Walker's B****.

In isolation, I could vote for Christie. The problem is its not in isolation, and I don't see him or any other moderate GOP candidate vetoing the crazy shiat coming out of a GOP Congress. And let's honest, if the GOP nominee wins the president, the almost assuredly hold the Senate even with the host of embattled incumbents from the tea party wave of 2010 up for re election.

I'd vote against him not because I like Hillary more, but I want the check on the legislature that Hillary would provide that he can't.

This is pretty much how I feel as well. Although, I think I prefer Clinton anyways. Not sure I would want (or trust) a Christie WH. He's just too brash and doesn't have the tact to deal with international negotiations.

Ever notice how when one party has the White House, the other party has at least one of the houses in Congress? There's sometimes a single election cycle where one party has all three (White House, House of Reps, and Senate), but that's usually changed out by the mid-term elections.

As much as Americans like to gripe about Washington not getting anything done, we intentionally vote for the gridlock. We like it, and bathe in its eternal sunshine. Until we don't. Then one party gets total control until the next mid-term comes along because we've been reminded of the crud that happens when one side is given too much power.

Another interesting tidbit is that IIRC every President since....maybe FDR??? has left office with less seats in Congress than they had when they were elected. With that kind of record, small wonder we have so much gridlock!

In other news, I love this guy! Trump for the win, baby!

Re: Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

Trump is the most embarrassing candidate I can remember. I wish he'd just go away

Re: Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

Trump is more embarrassing.

Not to me. Trump is, at the end of the day, a carnival barker, and we've already elected one of those. Palin was a mirror of a large portion of America -- it confirmed that about one third of the humans inhabiting this country are imbeciles. That was soul-destroying for those of us who had faith that mankind has actually crawled a few feet from the slime in the last million years.

FDR was elected in an enormous wave election, so he probably left office with fewer seats. Maybe Coolidge?

Re: Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

Trump is where the base is. While he's not a viable candidate over the long term, somebody has to inherit his supporters which are significant. My money's on Cruz with Walker as the next option. In the latest polling Trump is killing it with the Teapartiers. That's where you want to be right now.

Christie had zero shot of making it out of the primaries and you know it. Faux was actively campaigning AGAINST him.

Oh yeah, Trump is a *ing hit among the Facebook conservative crowd.

You think Faux wanted Mittens? NO. Just about everyone took mittens as the default. The 1% establishment loved him and that got him over the hump. Everyone else wanted "other".
