The big thing I noticed today was, UMD switched Tuominen and Wilson after the first period, I think to better shadow Paton and her line.
Wong has definitely gotten over her mid-season "slump" if you want to call it that and is playing better than ever now.. if she'd just shoot more often instead of either so hard to not make a mistake. She had a goal waiting for her in the second but tried to get into better position rather than put it on net. (wait.. didn't this come up after the Final Faceoff too?)
Great job by the 'Dogs to hang in there and grind out a win . . . I read somewhere that the one goal UNH got was "lucky" and I sort of agree . . . Posa misplayed the puck in close to her own net and a UNH player jabbed at it . . . it just sort of trickled inbetween Harss' skates . . . the puck should have easily been cleared . . .
It's a game of mistakes, and at this level, I think results are far less a matter of luck, than making fewer mistakes, and capitalizing on those of the opposition.
You could call the game tying goal in the the Clarky - Minny game on a shot from just shy of center ice lucky too, but the fact of the matter is both players had to be in the right place at the right time, make the right decision at the same time, and physically make that "luck" happen.
HOLY CRAP I can't think of anything but tomorrow. Imagine how the girls feel!!
Okay--let's get fired up Dog Fans! Are people going to both games? Any tentative post-game celebratory site picked out? (I hate to jinx it but I'm hoping for an opportunity to flood the Dinkytown economy with purchases of beer!) How about when we win it all on Sunday? Where's the party?
Also, we need some signage. Some support. Some love. Are they're any rules on making signs/ banners and hanging them to support the team?
Let's go DOGS!!!!!
You have to be pretty darn good to be "lucky" at this level.

Signage . . . given that I couldn't even bring my small "Jen-ny" sign into the DECC last week (first time EVER I couldn't bring my hand-held sign in - at ANY level of NCAA game/tournament) I'm not too optimistic they'll leave anything in at Ridder either.
There was a notice on the Bulldogs website earlier today about a pre-game get-together at some place in the Cities, but that story is now mysteriously missing. I guess you just need to ask around. Maybe the plans fell through or something.
That pre-game party is the usual Alumni get-together before an NCAA event.. being held at the Radisson and requires RSVP.. not sure if non-alumni are eligible to show up or not.. since I'm not alumni and I'll be watching the first game anyway.
The event is open to all Bulldog friends, fans, family...

Thanks, Bandit. Thing that is a bummer about this is that if we go to catch some of the Mercy/Cornell game, we CAN'T GET BACK IN if we leave! Gahhh!
UMD has on it's roster:
17 Skaters
2 Goaltenders (Freshman Harss and Sophomore Steck)
8 Freshmen (including Harss) and 3 Sophomores (including Steck) with little playing time last season.
The first half of the season may look like a complete rebuilding year.. but I figure by the time the Christmas break comes, the team should have "jelled" and figured out how to play together.
Non-Conference this year is on the road other than Robert Morris to open the season, with the team going out east to play Mercyhurst and Boston College.
UMD gets an early series at the Gophers October 16/17, and doesn't see Wisconsin until December, and plays the Badgers twice in 3 series (separated by Christmas break.)
