Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

It was a rather sloppy game, but a win is a win, especially when a loss means your season ends!

The big thing I noticed today was, UMD switched Tuominen and Wilson after the first period, I think to better shadow Paton and her line. It took UMD until into the third period to get some flow back after making that change. They still weren't what we had seen leading up to the game, but when you have a line as good as Paton's line you do what you have to, to keep them off the board!

Wong has definitely gotten over her mid-season "slump" if you want to call it that and is playing better than ever now.. if she'd just shoot more often instead of either so hard to not make a mistake. She had a goal waiting for her in the second but tried to get into better position rather than put it on net. (wait.. didn't this come up after the Final Faceoff too?)

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

To answer a question about my camera lens in the reputation box, nope.. not a new lens.. I shoot with a Canon EOS 50D and Sigma 70-200 F2.8 lens .. the lens has good focus speed and is great for the "low" light indoors, AND $500 cheaper than the Canon version ;)

I heard that in the post-game press conference coach Miller said she did this because Willy wasn't winning face-offs so, she switched it up! And, when Tuominen got tossed a couple of times . . . Blais steps in and goes 4 for 4 on them! Multi-talented girl there!

I agree about Wong too . . . she does need to shoot more . . . and I'd like to see her skate into the corners with more gusto - a la Friddy, Blais, Ambroze and others . . . that will improve her impact on the game . . .

Great job by the 'Dogs to hang in there and grind out a win . . . I read somewhere that the one goal UNH got was "lucky" and I sort of agree . . . Posa misplayed the puck in close to her own net and a UNH player jabbed at it . . . it just sort of trickled inbetween Harss' skates . . . the puck should have easily been cleared . . .

It's a game of mistakes, and at this level, I think results are far less a matter of luck, than making fewer mistakes, and capitalizing on those of the opposition.

You could call the game tying goal in the the Clarky - Minny game on a shot from just shy of center ice lucky too, but the fact of the matter is both players had to be in the right place at the right time, make the right decision at the same time, and physically make that "luck" happen.

"Luck" would have been getting away with the infraction that caused the short handed situation resulting in the GWG:p

You have to be pretty darn good to be "lucky" at this level.

I completely agree . . .

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

HOLY CRAP I can't think of anything but tomorrow. Imagine how the girls feel!!

Okay--let's get fired up Dog Fans! Are people going to both games? Any tentative post-game celebratory site picked out? (I hate to jinx it but I'm hoping for an opportunity to flood the Dinkytown economy with purchases of beer!) How about when we win it all on Sunday? Where's the party?

Also, we need some signage. Some support. Some love. Are they're any rules on making signs/ banners and hanging them to support the team?

Let's go DOGS!!!!!

I'll be there tomorrow . . . but with a 10 or under kid with me I won't be doing much celebration afterward . . . Signage . . . given that I couldn't even bring my small "Jen-ny" sign into the DECC last week (first time EVER I couldn't bring my hand-held sign in - at ANY level of NCAA game/tournament) I'm not too optimistic they'll leave anything in at Ridder either.

And, should they win (and I have every hope they will) I'll be back on Sunday.

I'm with you though . . . can't really focus on anything else right now.

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

I hope UNH can continue to make it to the semi's and the finals.... and possibly get what is due to them.

For now, best of luck to the Bulldogs. It's going to be a great night for hockey.

There was a notice on the Bulldogs website earlier today about a pre-game get-together at some place in the Cities, but that story is now mysteriously missing. I guess you just need to ask around. Maybe the plans fell through or something.

I can't believe that. There were banners all over the DECC last weekend, wall-to-wall. And you couldn't bring one little handheld sign? Sheesh. The NCAA are some funny people sometimes. Well okay, they're funny a lot of times.

GO BULLDOGS!!!!!!!!!!

That pre-game party is the usual Alumni get-together before an NCAA event.. being held at the Radisson and requires RSVP.. not sure if non-alumni are eligible to show up or not.. since I'm not alumni and I'll be watching the first game anyway.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Yeah-- there's no way there's players at that gig either. I'm going to try to get to the Cornell/ Merchyhurst game so I can size up the potential competition.

I'll ask some of the girls if they know of a potential gig after we win. The last Frozen Four in Duluth was so **** awesome because we got to party with the team at Grandma's afterward.

C'mon Dog Fans. LET'S GET FIRED UP! They are and now they need our help!

Thanks, Bandit. Thing that is a bummer about this is that if we go to catch some of the Mercy/Cornell game, we CAN'T GET BACK IN if we leave! Gahhh!

I'm going down to watch hockey and take pictures, and I don't drink anyway ;) so I'll watch the game instead.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I just wanted to go back and look at the first post I made for this new season...

UMD has on it's roster:

17 Skaters
2 Goaltenders (Freshman Harss and Sophomore Steck)
8 Freshmen (including Harss) and 3 Sophomores (including Steck) with little playing time last season.

The first half of the season may look like a complete rebuilding year.. but I figure by the time the Christmas break comes, the team should have "jelled" and figured out how to play together.

Non-Conference this year is on the road other than Robert Morris to open the season, with the team going out east to play Mercyhurst and Boston College.

UMD gets an early series at the Gophers October 16/17, and doesn't see Wisconsin until December, and plays the Badgers twice in 3 series (separated by Christmas break.)

So.. I take it they jelled since Christmas break :D
