Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

The incoming defense is what we really need to watch and pay attention to.. though I don't yet know much about any of them.. losing 3 seniors on the blue line will be the only real weakness when we get to the new season.

There is only 1 incoming D recruit listed at this point.....but I do know that Wong plays D also.

Jenni Asserholt, who missed last season with the Swedish Olympic Team, is a D.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

It appears it's just about time to put a wrap on this thread if we've moved on to talking about next year's team!!! Maybe we need to start the UMD offseason thread!

I have the above the fold DNT picture of Manue jumping up and everyone swarming on Wong taped up in my cubicle. The Cornell goalie face down, dejected. Cornell's #27 (I think) pushing herself up off the ice. A pure, joyous celebratory moment for UMD. I smile everytime I look at it. I still can't quite fathom that team making it all the way to the national title. If you'd told me last September UMD would be hoisting their 5th trophy with all those freshman forwards and a F in goal I would have laughed out loud and talked about crazy dreams.

Emmanuelle Blais and Laura Fridfinnson (especially) took their games to an entirely new level and pulled their teammates up with them. Jocelyne Larocque came back with much to prove and helped get a share of her "gold" medal.

What a ride. What a ride. A great season to be a Dog fan.

That's all for the 09-10 Bulldog thread for me.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Great review of the year Binnyrus, but you forgot a few players that played a big role this year too!! Touminen our Captain dispite missing several games was clutch for this team and Rasmussen one of our assistant captains had the best year of her career .....this year is full of memories that i will never forget!

So happy to see them win the National Championship.....so sad to see it end.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Grim-

We will NEVER forget Jaime and Saara. I'm willing to bet that Binny is a work and didn't have time to wax poetically about all the special moment/ players/etc. There are so many. And Jaime and Saara's leadership and on-ice performances give me the tingles. UMD is so lucky to have them as part of the program. I'd make a shrine to them, but that might be a little weird.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Hahaha yeah a shrine might be a little wierd....lol

And to Binny and all Dog fans!!! Every year is a good year to be a Dog fan...some years are just "Unbelievable" to be a Dog fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Completely agree!! I never mean to "forget" anyone and certainly that's not what was intended. Each player on the team deserves recognition for "the moment". I guess Blais, Friddy, Jen-ny and Joce really stuck out for me this season as the players that would not be denied. Saara Tuominen is a player that can never, ever be replaced. I'll miss her for years to come. Her solid, but rarely spectacular play was awe inspiring to all of us that go to work everyday and do our best. Her PP pass to Rass to put UMD up 2-1 was just another one of those perfect Tuominen passes that only Bulldog fans got to enjoy for 4 years straight. Every game she played in had one of those - a stunning cross-icer to a streaking Iya in OT at Wisconsin for the game winner also stands out in my mind.

It's nice to have a minute or two to enjoy the team . . . so often on these UMD related threads we get hammered . . . told why our team, coach, school, city whatever . . . shouldn't be allowed to be successful! While most of the time we fans simply show up for, support and cheer loudly for these young women that lay in all on the line for their teammates. We don't get to say . . . "Wow! That was something." Or, when we do, like I said we get hammered for it.

It really was something this season. Sadly, and gladly we'll move on to see what next year brings. All I know is that I'll be there . . . missing these great seniors and enjoying all of the new and returning Bulldogs.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

A shrine would look really nice on top of the grand piano, next to the candelabra! ;)

Yes, next to the candelabra.....and the 5 NATTY's.:D Oh..Oh! OH! and maybe the pile of Gold and Bronzes (and silver if you count Chu). Those medals sure would like nice next to Shanon's sparkly jacket and the girls' trophies!

Oh, speaking of Chu-- can she come back? I mean, it's not like an assistant coach can red shirt. Maybe a leave of absence? Chu was at the Championship game waving to all the girls after the win. That was super cool.

If only every team was lucky enough to have a group of diehard loyal fans who truly appreciate watching, celebrating and discussing their skills, contributions and accomplishments--large or small.

That kind of support would be even more special than national titles.

To have both, well.....doesn't get better than that, does it?

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Jenna McParland is definitely a player you will like to watch.

FYI, McParland scored the tying goal late in the 3rd peiod tonight for Canada to send it to OT vs the US for the u18 world championship....UMD will love the fact that she makes a habit of scoring HUGE goals when it counts the most.

After being down 3-1 in the first, Canada mounted a comeback for a 5-4 win 3 minutes into overtime.

She also came up big in the Final at NATS back in November, helping her team red win the whole thing. She scored two goals in the final. She is one big and strong competitor, with good hands.

That's awesome, Trillium. You're right, it doesn't get any better. Your compliment is the proof I needed to join this forum. Some of the trolls and ogres kept me away. (I've already receive a red chicklet.) Then the girls won the Natty. Again. And I had to proclaim my freakin' joy. So I joined. And then you said some nice things. And then I decided I would stay. And I happen to love Trillium (Trillium grandiflorum). A lot. Looking forward to their bloom here in Northern MN very soon. When it looks like a Kleenex box blew up all over the forest floor. Love that. I love that almost as much as UMD Hockey.

Did it not snow up there the other day ?.
(Yes you are south of the border, but more north than where I'm located :D ).
Sounds to me the only thing Blooming is the white stuff coming out of the sky. :D

Ha! Normally a snowstorm isn't out of the question but there has been no snow here for almost a month now! It's been crazy nice and sunny-- an early spring for sure. The outdoor rinks melted faster than I would have liked.

I heard they had snow the other day in the morning at Nats. Is that not in your neck of the woods ?.

Wellll...sorta. Green Bay is about a 5 hour drive from here on the other Great Lake, L. Michigan. And yes! They did have some snow, but I was there this weekend and it was all gone and trees are getting fuzzy green. It is not the case here in Duluth.
