BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

That was embarrassing. So many chances in front throughout the first 2 periods and 0 go in. And then lose immediately in OT. Lost some momentum with that effort- looked like they mailed it in later in the third. Not interested whatsoever.

Gross. Such an underachieving team and even with a better goalie they are 2-2. It’s not going to get better on Monday this team is going in the wrong direction even with better defense. Can’t fix stupidity and heart.

Just like when they caught BC with a post WJC hangover, Merrimack took advantage of a trap game for the Terriers. Have to imagine BU was looking ahead to Monday.

Some perspective on the day after the stinker. I’m not sure this game will have a negative bearing on Monday. This program’s teams in the last 10 years or so have frequently struggled at Lawler for whatever reason. It’s about a 50-50 shot to win there with whatever team we bring up there. The motivation just didn’t seem to be there and it reflected in the results. There’s plenty of motivation for Monday. It just hurts in the quest to keep alive the chance at a regular season championship (BC would have need to make a few mistakes along the way to help us out anyway). It keeps our chances of climbing in the PWR for a higher 2 seed or low 1 lower as well. Maybe the team is not motivated by those things. I don’t know. But, remember, for what it’s worth- BU is 3-0 in tournament games this year! That is an important number I would like to see continue with that 0 on the right side.

Listen, BC's the better team from the goalie on out. BC hasn't won this thing since 2016. Eagles are tending right now. If everything break's as it should, we're looking at another L tonight. Does Big Mike keep it close or are we looking at a 5-1 game? Especially given Rogie's note about them all being 1-goal games. You know, like how every pundit thought the Super Bowl was going to be close.

I'll be there tonight rooting on my team and hoping they compete. But... Yeah. Tall order.

I am going into the game with no expectations at all, especially after that awful game on Friday. I'm also expecting to leave early. Been following the pre-game stuff, what with the guys all saying how pumped they are, etc. etc. etc. They said the same thing last week and even though they pulled it together the second half of the first period, a slow first period start tonight like the one last week and they will be in a hole very fast.

Best win in years. I've been critical of Pando this year but big credit to him for righting the ship after a bad 1st period. Whatever the adjustments were they worked.

With that said, I don't think Caron wins this game...

They have been shaky first period in every single game I've watched this year it seems. It seems they are settling more and more in the games now and not losing it to sloppy play so much (the recent Merrimack game excluded). So maybe they'll lock in and peak for the tournaments. We can hope.

brandon svoboda with a big goal for BU, tied the game, led to a big swing in momentum, ended up winning a trophy… i think i’ve heard this one before 🤭

hell of a win. BU capitalized on BC's mistakes and outworked them. 26 blocked shots vs 13. the shots on goal was equal at 44... but BC had 15 more shot attempts. BU also won 40/64 faceoffs. PK looked great too.

first period was sleepy, which was where yegorov really came in clutch. he's no stranger to high volume of shots (ideally he'll never need to make 66 saves in one game again, ever, at any level) but being able to stand tall against high volume from this talent level is impressive. the legend of mike's crazy month only grows. he also remains a great interview.

both of these teams are some of the youngest in college hockey and that can show in these big swings of momentum. BU won the last 2 periods and that 1st period they lost, their goalie kept them in it.

onward and upward!
So I wonder if Smith has to show up in Celebrini's jersey now.
Last word before the break was that they hadn't decided on a punishment yet. They're going golfing in Arizona with Dellandrea for the break, maybe Smith gets caddy duties? 😝

Impressive recovery after thoroughly being handled for most of the first period. 4-0 now in the tournament games, including this one against the unanimous #1 team in the nation. That was such an important game in more ways than one - win the very important Beanpot, confidence to beat a team and goaltender of that caliber, playing and winning on the big stage, and to top it off BU moves from 10 to 6 in the PWR. So proud of the team’s efforts tonight. Now finish the season strong and win some more trophies!

Holy cow! Never have I been so glad to be wrong. I was not expecting that at all. Especially after the first period. I loved that both Lane Hutson and Macklin Celebrini, both NHL Rookie of the Year contenders, not only come back but go up to the student section with the fans. That was very cool.

That’s two tournament wins. Something they didn’t do last season.
