BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

If no one wins Powerball tonight, I’m going to buy a ticket for Monday and if I win, I’m going to make a sizable donation to the team that’s contingent on them learning how to win a face off to start a power play. The donation will increase over the course of the season with each win and decrease with every loss. Either that or fund a coaching endowment and the coach’s sole responsibility is working with players on that skill. This is getting ridiculous.

maybe they should consider putting the best faceoff guy on the powerplay...

which would be Brandon Svoboda with 55.9%. dunno how much appetite there is to have your freshman 4C on pp1. maybe they can do the thing like in OT where you immediately switch out the faceoff guy for someone more offensively inclined if you win it.

I didn’t see half the game, ESPN+ didn’t start streaming it until 7pm for some reason. Someone didn’t pick up on the 6pm start, although it showed that it did.

Wasn't just this game- same issue happened with NU @ UVM. Apparently it was an ESPN+ outage issue. At least this one came back on ESPN+, the other stream only ended up available on Hulu and Disney+.

BU took three penalties, which Pandolfo has called an acceptable number.

Hockey East gives the team that gets the least amount of penalties over the season the Len Ceglarski Award.
Jack Parker once said that was the award he never wanted his teams to win. Not because it was named after the former BC coach. But because he said his teams would not be playing the way he wanted - i.e., aggressive for checking and physically.

There are (some) good penalties, and bad penalties.
This team takes way too many bad penalties.

The best part was Caron. Poor 3rd period at home that was pathetic. Bunch of dumb undisciplined penalties (one was a bad call). Two more for SFB Kaplan. He should be benched for a game again. Hutson with a chippy killer penalty with 4 mins left. Still a sweep but BC could eat them alive next weekend. Despite the records and bunching of HE teams in PWR and league standings BC is far superior in potential and on another level from the others. We will know just how far apart BU is next weekend

What does "SFB" stand for?

The one thing BC did not need to have coming into this series, being #1 in the polls as well as the PWR. As if BU did not need any more motivation. Two packed arenas, it should be quite the weekend.

That shorty encapsulates everything about how this team plays and how good teams will pick apart those issues and exploit them.

And ok....this PP is largely why they still have a shot...they're always about "can we outscore our mistakes and their goals."

Gross performance but predictable. Pandolfo opening the net 3 goals down was a big FU to the players and fans. Losing the second period 3-0 at home is an embarrassment. I’m not going to analyze every goal given up but they aren’t going to beat a better team unless they get “stands on head” goaltending and Caron ain’t it. 4 in a row against 2 bottom feeders brought false sense that this was a tournament worthy team. Tomorrow night could be a total bloodbath.

1) Why do you think Pando did that?
2) Stiga’s goal and the shoulder height feed from Hagens(?) was beautiful
3)This was my first time watching BC this season and they looked much better than last season. Speed and good coaching?
4) BC just toyed with BU in the 3rd. Lachance was the only one who could use his body position to get puck control but nothing could ever come of it because BC was so positionally sound (or quick to cover) and there was almost never an open man for him to outlet to
5) Harvey had soooo many opportunities. But he lost every one.
6) BC worked HARD for possession and was the perfect combination of gritty and fast. It will be interesting to see if BU learned from this how hard they have to work to compete with BC
7) Going to Conte tomorrow. I am hoping BC plays at 30%. I think they played the 3rd at 50% tonight and we still couldn’t do anything
8) Highlights of the game were the new(?) banner the dog pound had at intros and Todd Angilly.

This is what I tried to post yesterday, but of course, the servers were over-loaded again. (This site is the equivalent of driving a 2001 Pontiac Aztek.)

"If you rank the forwards on both teams, you probably get to 4 before a Terrier makes the list. BC also has the better goalie and strong D Corp. How does BU win?

BU Hockey: Gotta Want It"

So yeah... This game went exactly as I thought it would.

Still, the lateral turnovers and ease with which they wilt when things don't go their way is depressing. #44 in particular had a very rough night. Listen, BC's just better, so ya gotta raise your game three notches. Tonight could get ugly.

BU Hockey: Pride

Last night was disappointing. BC is the class of the NCAA this year, but we can and should have given them a better game.

BC had done its homework and it showed in how they looked to pick off cross ice passes.

Cole Hutson was nowhere to be seen last night.

Our forecheck was horrible. We dumped the puck in and then watched. It came right back out - what a surprise.

Is Zetterberg hurt? He's been one of our best forecheckers and disrupters.

Was the intent of having Roukounakis and Grimes skating with Svoboda to have a heavy hitting, checking line? You can't hit what you can't catch. Those wingers detract from Svoboda's game

We didn't pursue and pressure the puck - didn't use our speed at all.

We had no net front presence. Fowler wasn't as sharp last night, and there were more rebounds than usual. But we had no one there.

Time for a goalie change.
