BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

Saturday's win is the type of win that could jump-start better play and a winning streak. If .... The hope is it increases confidence. Oh, and stop taking undisciplined penalties, guys.

Gotta keep Shane and Ryan on the same line. Those two have great chemistry.

BU Hockey: Trying to Push Past Mediocrity

I know it’s ambitious, but I’m looking for a sweep of UMass this week (Sat-Wed series) to get solidly back in the national picture. It would also put us in first place in Hockey East going into the second semester. More importantly, however is to put together a few solid games where we play for near the full 60 minutes. I’m sure UMass will be playing hard against us, so I guess we’ll see. Let’s get that first one tonight with some killer instinct at home.

Previous results don't correlate to future results, but ... BU has had UMass's number going back to the Albie days. Here's hoping that continues.

Question for Terrier Nation: My daughter would like me to personalize her BU hockey jersey with her favorite player's name & number. Any tips on where I can have that done?

Cole Hutson is an enigma. First the goal is bad coverage not looking at his man, and then he jumps in the air and tries to level someone. I would say sit him for the next game, but that will already be taken care of. I know he’s just a freshman, but he makes several boneheaded plays seemingly every game, both defensively and making bad choices offensively. Hopefully we can recover from this. Lots of time left.

Probably the worst officiated game in over 2 decades. If they’re gonna call these games like this idk if I can watch hockey.

Just a completely undisciplined team.
Caron should sue for non-support.
Keep them after the game and make them do Herbies until they shut the lights out.

You can't blame the refs for the BU play. Blame the coach for a lack of a coordinated game plan and non existent D. Frustration and bone headed plays caused this lop sided defeat. There are no off nights in HE and no opponent can ever be taken lightly. You can't count your points until the whistle actually blows. That said, the elephant in the room is that this team isn't as good offensively as last year's team. Last year you had the best college hockey player in the nation. It's difficult to replace his scoring and mostly his hockey IQ that made everyone better.

Ooops. Sorry for the jinx.

Bottom half year? Might be. Time to lower the expectations.

I thought the team came out with energy and dictated play for the first part of the game until Cole Hutson loses track of someone and UMass gets a favorable rebound. Then he makes the crazy charge and we manage to escape. Power play does nothing. Then the second major and it’s pretty much done after a few goals. Don’t know if Svoboda’s stick slipped up high, or what, but you can’t let that happen. As far as the goalie interference, I don’t think I can blame Lachance on either. I thought he was outside the paint on the first one and the UMass defender was weak on the second.

Bottom line is you have to be better and get the puck in the net early when you are dictating play. Otherwise things can happen against you and they sure did tonight. The home play has been poor. Good crowds in the building too. Hate to see that. Then there’s the goon play at the end. Soul searching will be in order.

Where’s the high impact play of Eiserman? He seems to go missing for whole games.

Guys and gals. Mike laying down the chilling stats in the comment section of the Freep. Buckle up.

Mike writes:

BU has given up 51 goals. Good for 15th worst in college hockey. That’s 15th worst out of 64 D1 programs.

For context, we’ve scored 52 goals, BC 49. Maine 60.

Goals against: BU 51. BC: 28. Maine 24.

Our PK is 71.7%. Good for 6th worst in college hockey. Maine’s is 86.8%. BC’s is, get this, 100%. BC has not given up a PP goal all season. We’ve given up 17.

Our defense S-T-I-N-K-S. Like might be the worst in modern BU history.

Stats don’t always tell the story. This season, they do.

BU Hockey: Yikes.

It is the coaches job to fix this. I can understand that this team isn't as good as last year's, but a .500 team that regularly takes nights off? Yikes. Everyone, INCLUDING Pando and his staff, needs to step up their game. I also can't stand the confused look on his face every time the team makes yet another stupid play. Call a timeout, scream at somebody, do SOMETHING.

He was chasing the officials at intermissions both nights in Orono. And he refused to shake hands at the conclusion of the series even after Barr hollered to him. When your coach shows poor sportsmanship then you can expect there to be no discipline in your team. With the talent BU brings in, a coach has to be below average to not to coach it to top half of the league.

This. It’s just a bad look for the program. We have been harping about the penalties and lack of discipline for some time now. They play like entitled bullies, and maybe they need to be taken down a notch. A little humility never hurt anyone.

He needs to spend more time chasing down his players and less harping at the officials. I too don't like some of the calls but hockey east refs have been terrible for the 30+ years I've been watching college hockey and they're usually bad for everybody. I'm not calling for Pando to get canned but I fear he's not as good of a coach as I expected he'd be. Team had superstars on it the last couple of years which seemed to mask some issues with the coaching staff in hindsight.

They were actually personalizing jerseys at the game last night. The company was Camelot Enterprises.

This. 1000%. One thing Maine fans and BU fans can agree on is that the hockey east refs are good for 1 or 2 sh*t calls a game (sometimes more)...up to the team to overcome them

As an aside, anyone hearing when Beanpot general public tix are going live?
Seems kinda late. Usually some time in November, if my recollection is correct.
