BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

I was hoping that Matt Copponi would score tonight. Glad to see him score the two dagger goals. I should be more happy about a win.
Agree about Copponi he has stood out as one of the few bright spots this year a long with Eiserman, Svoboda and Lacroix. It’s tough to feel good about the win after the way they played for 2 periods. Troubling how bad this team can play.

Like the Bruins, there is something wrong in the room. Perhaps the trip to Ireland will help (or make it worse.). Either way, we should know by the end of the year if this team is a team or not. If not, our April just got a lot cheaper and stress-free. #BrightSide

BU Hockey: Chemistry Experiment

Ouch. It was a little salt in the wound to this Merrimack fan. Was disappointed when he left the Warriors, but glad to see him having success.

Disappointed that no one asked Jay why Kaplan was not in lineup

Also no mention of important role Tristan Amonte played in third period. Was on ice a lot and won faceoffs contributing to extra time in offensive sone
Always a hard worker but has had trouble scoring

As my BU alum buddy visiting from Atlanta said, "All's well that ends well". Very ugly first two periods (other than Svoboda's two outstanding individual efforts). My hope is that this isn't a locker room issue and is just a team that lost a lot of veteran leadership still finding it's way. The defense is very young. The only veteran on d is still adjusting to a new team and style. The "adjustment" is a real thing - look at how much better Copponi looks over the last few games than he did before. We also miss the board domination that we had with guys like Stevens, Peterson, and Tuch last year. Lachance is the only guy on the team that can really maintain possession on the boards effectively.

- Sometimes the simple play is the right play, and the team sometimes overcomplicates things. On the third MC goal, Greene retrieved the puck and had a clear lane if he curled up the bards. But instead he took it behind the net where he had to deal with forecheckers.
- One clear change as the play on the ice improved - Hutson carried the puck up all the way into the zone. Given some of his passes in the first two periods, that was definitely the right call...
- I love that Pandolfo put the three "two goal" guys out for that final power play. My guess is the instructions were "if we win the faceoff, try for a hat trick for one of you, if they clear the zone, then run out the clock".

Happy with the win but I can't recall seeing a more consistently sloppy BU team. Way too many stretch passes being picked off, especially in their own end. Way too much coughing up the puck with little challenge. I know Lane leaves big skates to fill, but we're REALLY feeling his absence - Cole hasn't come close to filling the void.

Dealing with a little FOMO this morning watching BU and Merrimack play in Belfast. Of course, watching them with an early power play, then coughing up the puck at the blue line and committing their own penalty on the short handed breakaway makes me a little glad I didn’t go. Heh.

Love that the band was able to make the trip! This play by play guy keeps saying Merry Mack and it’s driving me nuts.

First off, good to win by 4 in the end. I was hoping the tournament situation might focus everyone and we would see some very crisp hockey. I didn’t see it. This team struggles with possession in the offensive zone, even on the power play most of the time. I’m confused- these are very good hockey players that have been playing together as a group now for about 3 months. They look like they just met up for a pickup game half of the time and don’t practice together. Decision making is frequently poor and it puts them in some bad situations. Caron and some inaccurate shooting by Merrimack bailed them out today. They are keeping their heads above water for now, but to win something this year, they still have a way to go. As far as tomorrow, Notre Dame is not such a great team, but that doesn’t really matter right now - I think they need to play a more complete and consistent game to win.

Great start, bad middle, great finish. Formula for success? What a third period! I was hoping it wouldn’t come down to something like that, but it did. The type of effort in the third is what we need for about the whole 60 minutes. Hopefully this confidence and the good feelings of winning something can translate into better things ahead.

Right?? As great as last season was, they had nothing to show for it. Not sure what the rest of the season holds but now they know they can do it.

As bad and undisciplined as this team has looked for much of this season they are tied with Denver in PWR. That blows my mind. Maybe they will turn it around.

The replay of the game has disappeared from ESPN+. All seven goals are on the blog.
The post-game comments link (on GoTerriers.com) that didn't work last night is working now.
