BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

As an aside, anyone hearing when Beanpot general public tix are going live?
Seems kinda late. Usually some time in November, if my recollection is correct.

Was just going to post the same thing. I tried every option at the Garden and you can't get a human. I was able to get someone on a phone at BC but they did not have any idea. The person's assumption is that it had to do with the 4 Nations Tournament, but it is after the beanpot so confused. Even the website for the Beanpot has last years info, not even coming soon.

Officiating has been awful this year. Worse than usual.
In Belfast, there was a noticeable difference between the games officiated by Hockey East and ECAC officials. Yes, more calls and worse officiating by the HE crew.
More and longer reviews don't help, either.

Bad officiating and undisciplined play from BU is a bad combination. That is something that Pandolfo needs to fix.
OK, BU wants to play aggressively and hit. But you need to do that in a disciplined way. That includes not grabbing face masks or running players that made you angry. Playing hard and playing smart are not mutually exclusive.

The BU defense needs to be more consistent, and less sloppy. Especially when clearing the zone.
Caron has been left high and dry too often.

Lastly, BU needs to find a way to set up Eiserman. They did it on the wing or point earlier in the season, and he delivered.
He has not gotten much service lately. Even on the powerplay. He is a legit snipper.
Eiserman's defensive play is his acknowledged weakness. But he is putting in the work there.

Late in the first period with BU on power play, Lachance won consecutive faceoffs clean back to Willander who had Eiserman waiting to tee up a one timer and both times he went in a different direction. At the end of the period you could see Eiserman yelling at Willander as they went off the ice. I understand you don’t force it to him, but he’s wide open and his shot is going to give the goalie trouble even if it doesn’t go in. Can’t waste those opportunities when their offense is sputtering.

More likely has to do with the World Figure Skating championships in March that they are trying to fill at high prices first. However, they do sell Hockey East championship tickets already.

New lines for tonight have Eiserman-Copponi-Hutson and Lachance-Greene-Svoboda.

Kevin Shattenkirk retired yesterday. His conversation with defense partner and longtime friend Colby Cohen on Morning Cuppa Hockey is a great listen. His "Thank you to the game I love" personal letter is impressive. It's linked on today's blogpost.

I am just incredulous watching this. They have played five minutes and we have already given the puck away three times inside our own blue line. It doesn’t get more undisciplined than this…

But pulled out another character win. (Three third period goals.)

BU Hockey: Living on the Edge

They were actually personalizing jerseys at the game last night. The company was Camelot Enterprises.

Thank you! I'll check it out next home game

Jay Pandolfo joined Ryan Whitney and the Spitting Chicklets crew for a fun, unrestrained ramble through his career.
Much more on the blog

This was a fun listen. Ya gotta zip to about the 1:06 mark to hear the Jay interview. And I concur, that Ryan should keep working on Jack Parker to get him on. I also concur that Jack Parker deserves to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

There was an allusion to the 2009 title game after party. Does anyone who was in DC have any insights?

Quite the candid mea culpa from Cole Hutson on his first half performance. It's on the blog along with defkit's Terrier Takeaway, all six goals and links to the Colby-Shatty conversation.

I was there! From my perspective it was just an alcohol soaked hotel lobby take-over into the wee hours of the morning. Good times. Highlights for me were:
- Picture with Coach Parker
- Chat with Mike E
- Chat with Brian Durocher
- Chat with Chris O'Sullivan
- Chat with Jacque Jorbert's dad
- General merriment all around

Thanks for jogging my memory, Bomber. There was video of Jack Parker entering the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel and addressing the horde of BU fans in the lobby. I posted it on the blog back then, but now it just says "private video." :(

Drew Commesso made his NHL debut last night with 11 minutes of scoreless relief time in a Blackhawks loss. 96th Terrier to play in the NHL. Alex Vlasic with 2 apples and 25 min. TOI for Chicago.

I was looking at that post on Twitter last night with confusion as I swear he was already in the NHL and then I realized I was confusing him with Oettinger. Man, I need to start taking ginko boloba or something.

Totally forgot they had a game on Wednesday as I was in the midst of a work thing into the early evening and when I did realize they were playing, I had no idea they were on NESN. Probably residual trauma from that debacle on Saturday. Glad they were able to make that comeback. Not sure what to expect tonight. They're had some bad luck with this exhibition the past few years. Does LaCroix start in goal?

A few thoughts on yesterday’s exhibition game:
1) I think Lacroix looks good and should get some more starts.
2) Nick R (not even going to try spelling it) looks like he earned more playing time. But who gets less as a result?
3) This US team looked like it doesn’t have nearly the top end talent as in years past. Is that my imagination as I don’t follow them regularly?
4) Lachance had some sweet hands about 5-10 minutes in with the between the legs backhander that unfortunately didn’t go in.
5) The US team was giving them so much space they could be creative which was fun to watch

I literally said the same thing about U18 team. They’ve got some good talent but this team is definitely a few steps down from last year’s (and some others) team.

I thought BU looked sloppy and unorganized for stretches during the game. And then during other stretches they looked really good. It’s frustrating. On one of the U18’s goals (I think it was their third, there were four BU players lined up in front of Lacroix and the U18 kid scored with no problem. No one moved to him to try and take him out or take the puck away.

Agree on Lacroix, he’s been a great backup.

I liked that all three future Terriers were part of the starting lineup. And loved the smile on the first player announced reacting the applause from the BU fans. For those that were there - how do you think the three future Terriers did?

I thought Tretheway looked solid. Not a Hutson brother but he had some nice breakups and clearly got under Copponi’s skin.

Never really noticed Fondryk or Murtagh much although the latter did have a nice helper in the 3rd.

Most impressive U18 player to me was Philips as true stay at home D.

Also, does anyone know why Chara was in the building last night? Wasn’t sure if he has any connections to anyone that was on the ice

Drew Commesso made his first NHL start yesterday vs. NJ. I was at the game. After keeping his cage clean for two periods, he gave up four in the third period, but only one was on him. Couple of no-chancers and a laser from unmarked Jack Hughes. Alex Vlasic plays huge minutes for Chicago: 1st PP, 1st PK. Never spectacular, but very solid, always in position.

Classy move by the USTD coach to start the future Terriers. I hope he does the same when other kids gave the future college team's.

I actually noticed Murtaugh the most. Good skill and doesn't shy away from contact.
Tretherway looked like a good one.
Fondrck has a big reputation, but had a quite night.
There is a fourth future Terrier on the team, but was injured.

Adding Michael Misa from Canadian major juniors will be huge.
