BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

I have a (possibly incorrect) notion that the guys who play in the WJC typically come back and have a better second half than first half. Does anyone else think that is likely the case for our 3 this year? Any evidence to confirm/dispel my notion?

Fixed your post. :)

And I hope so. They need something. That game on Sunday...:shudder: I'm really glad they don't have any games this weekend. Not sure I would go.

At the WJC's, Hutson and Willander are two of The Athletic's top preliminary-round performers. Cole was tied for the tournament points lead and an Elite Prospects scout called Willander Sweden's top defender.

Need the same from these two in the second half.

And C. McCarthy, Tuch and Zabaneh. 6 veterans with deep experience, along with the Dynamic Duo.

also wonder about loss of Doug Freidman behind bench=-seemed he left for not a big job and he brought a certain energy behind the bench
I know he had issues at the end but for most of the season Wilmer was their #3 scorer atop 10 in the league

How could I have forgotten the amazing Swede?!

I thought Willander was our best player earlier in the season but fell off after the first few games. It honestly looked like a chemistry issue to me where he went from making some beautiful passes off of nice stick-handling plays to just kind of dumping it forward. Could also be the “simplification of the game” that I keep hearing is getting coached into them.

BU's issues to date, IMO.
1. Poor discipline. Too many penalties, particularly majors.
2. Mediocre penalty killing.
3. Sloppy play by the defensemen, particularly in their own end.
4. Inconsistent goaltending. Some nights Caron is outstanding, but too many soft goals in others.
5. Slow starts, not really playing until after a period, sometimes too.
6. Not getting the puck to Eiserman often enough.
The good news is that all are correctable. But will they be?

Hutson was terrific this whole WJC. IMO he should have been MOP over Leonard. Led the tourney in scoring, got the tying goal tonight. Hope he can bring that to the 2nd half on Comm Ave.

Or playing UVM in front of 4k is a let down. Could go either way.

Nice to see the BU boys shine on the big stage.

What was Carle's
issue with Eiserman?

May be related to the fact that when he was out 5x5 they had trouble clearing their zone. It looked to me like Eiserman was having trouble with his rotations and was chasing the puck but not winning the races.

FWIW, Scott Wheeler of The Athletic wrote:
"While he's playing primarily on the power play, when has got out there at five-on-five, I've felt he's played with intensity and has done a good job chasing down pucks and applying pressure on the forecheck."

More on the blog.

Besides the 5 on 5 effectiveness, he took some very undisciplined penalties in the games he had more ice time in. I didn't mind him in the role of 13th forward who specialized on PP and chirped relentlessly with opponents, considering the other options on the roster and especially in the medal rounds.

Not sure what to make of this. Is his ELC that small? I wonder if his agent is OK with this.

ELC is very much not small, with max bonuses and everything. ELCs themselves are required to be under a certain amount though. Base salary plus signing bonus is $975k, performance bonuses up to $3.5m. I don't know why he's on cameo, but I'd guess he wanted to.

I read a funny Tweet that said: "Cole Eiserman has the most money job on the American Team. Sit on the bench and chirp. Then go out and snipe on the PP. Thus allowing for more chirps. The cycle of snipes and chirps is never ending." :D. Brilliant. Massholery at it's finest!

I wonder if it's like a rookie hazing thing. :) And he will donate any money he makes. Or something like that.

NHL Rookie Scoring: #1 Lane Hutson 30, #3 Macklin Celebrini 28, #7 Cutter Gauthier 17, #8 Will Smith 14
NHL Rookie Goal-scoring #1 Celebrini 13

All talented players and all will be successful in the NHL, just glad I was able to watch them in person. Now we have 10 kids from both teams coming back from the World Juniors. Should be a great second half of the year.

Any reason why Saturday's game is at 5:00pm? It can't be to accommodate a Patriots Playoff game. Ahhh, remember the days??

So the Vermont team can get back to Burlington earlier
A lot of Saturday back to back games start early
