BU 2021-22: Albie's Great Adventure

I think you hit it right on with the goaltending. If you’re below .900, you’re going to be in the bottom half of Division 1 at best. Don’t know how BC got caught without a viable option. I’m assuming they thought Knight would be around this year as well.
Both BU and NU were caught without a plan when Oettinger and Primeau left after the 2019-20 season.

I think a big part of the problem is that no top goalie wants to come in and be the #2 for a season or two, so teams recruit based on the goalie staying four seasons. However, top goalies are now being aggressively courted by the teams that drafted them, which is changing the dynamics. Look at Minnesota this season; their goalie signed during the season.

It appears that in these cases the backup plan is to get a goalie from the portal for a season. It didn't work out so well for BU or BC and only slightly better for NU.

It's been a pleasure to see this team jell from a group of talented individualistic players to players who are all in for the team, not just themselves. Their improved passing game clearly reflects this. Earlier in the season Zabaneh would have taken the shot rather than pass to Peterson. And that's just one example of many, many other instances reflecting the same selflessness.

I hope the Jr. players stick around. Probably unlikely they'd take a 5th year as well, but if we could keep them as seniors, and Commesso and Vinny stay, we could be a powerhouse for a few years on this talent alone. We could use a little more talented depth in the defensive corps, and some more scoring, but we're pretty well set.

And we'd best not assume that BC will roll over and play dead this afternoon - not at home, not after having been outclassed last night, and not with what this rivalry means to both schools. I expect them to be amped up and mad.

They might be amped up and mad but it shouldn't matter when you can't stop a beach ball.

The credit goes to Pandolfo! *smiley face*

If there was ever a case of why we need a new coach it was this pathetic effort today. After a no show early season and a sleep walking two periods today when they could ill afford a lose then this was it. It is time for a change! Very talented team without a good coach.

Albie will have a nice teaching moment on GWG. A 1-on-3 up the ice and back checking forward goes for the big hit which leads to a mini 2-on-1. Bad giveaway on McBain goal too.

The minute we lose our first regulation game in almost three months, you show up for the first time.

Bingo

I think some people need to calm down for a minute. If you thought this was a pathetic effort, you didn’t watch the game. We absolutely dominated the first 20 minutes again and played very well offensively in other spurts in the last 2 peroids. Give credit where credit is due - Dop played a phenomenal game, and BC’s high end players converted on some absolute lasers. Could have easily been 2 or 3-0 after 1 again. There were a few defensive breakdowns and they cashed in with elite shots. Eight in a row is nothing to sneeze at in today’s college hockey.

This team is capable and I believe will finish the season strong. They are still in it. Tonight’s loss just means we will probably need a sweep next weekend to stay near the bubble in the PWR. Remember the last team in over the last 11 years had a RPIs ranging from .5261 to .5430 with an average of .5353. We stand at .5405. 2 wins next weekend gives us .5446 going into the tournament. I believe we have a great shot at winning the tournament which would make everything moot. I also have a gut feeling if we can win 2 at Maine and get to the HE title game, we will be in. Only time will tell. Let’s play hockey!!! Go BU!

Well to be fair, some of those goals are on the team defense. When you turn the puck over and make bad plays, the goalie is left out to dry frequently

Hard to turn things around with Freshmen, but we should be better than this year. Need a shut down goalie and some studs at forward. But in hockey things can turn around quickly, just look at BU's season.

Again we lose a group of talented players who produced after this year.

Without McLaughlin, Giles, and McBain someone needs to step up. Kuntar, Ambrosio or Nesterenko ???? Hopefully the incoming goalie can fill the bill.

Kuntar needs to cut down on his penalty box minutes

Dop was a decent starting goalie at Bowling Green. He makes the initial saves, is acrobatic, but leaves too many rebounds in dangerous positions. He didn't do the later yesterday.
He is an average starter at best because of his inconsistency. As a grad transfer, it is understandable why he is a bridge goalie.
BC's high-end players and Dop won the game for them yesterday.
But overall, this is the worst BC team since Jerry's first few seasons at BC.

BC 22 is not a good team, you are what your record says you are. However BC 02 was worse, they were depleted after the 2001 Nattie team and they had some injuries to deal with. At the end of the season they had forwards playing defense because of injuries. Agree DOP was the difference on Sunday, he was pretty good in the first BU game last Fall. As Snooks used to say one snowflake does not make a winter, big test this week end. Still a lot of hockey to be played. Looking forward to the next few games and to see how the final standings shake out. Always comes down to the last week end.

Conte forum is an absolute dump. Temperature in that building was about 25 degrees. Food is gross. Seating is awful. Atmosphere stinks. Awful BC fan attendance. The need to take a wrecking ball to that place and start fresh. A program like BC deserves a better home rink..

Game was about what I expected after a blowout win. Dop was good but BU hit him in the chest a lot and weren't there for rebounds. Gotta tip your cap to the kid as he bounced back from giving up 6 the day before. The 2 BU turnovers that determined that game were atrocious and the shots they scored on were NHL shots. BC was opportunistic and were carried by McBain. McBain was best player on the ice by a wide margin.
