BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I heard nothing publicly or otherwise except Quinn's comments last week that it wasn't his leg and it wasn't good.

Broken leg...gone for the year. A huge loss for the Terriers...Bellows back in to kill whatever line he is on. BU undefeated with him in the stands. He was given more than enough opportunity with Keller...this isn't U18 hockey anymore. Time to do something more than stand around ..flub shots and give your coach the stink eye when he sits you for lazy play. There is an Islander scout terrified for his job right now

I hadn't seen this:

Nik Olsson is out long term for @TerrierHockey, per Quinn. He had surgery on his right leg to repair a broken bone, unsure of recovery time.

Bellows has not been given time with Keller AT BU.
They did more than alright together last year against college opposition, including BU.

Greenway needs a spark, too.

Bellows with Keller; Greenway with JFK. Even if only one of the two moves works out, it would be a positive.

I agree it can't hurt with the offensive production BU has gotten since the WJC...I just have a hard time rewarding someone with playing time who has been quite honestly god awful .

Not making any excuses for Bellows who apparently has hit a wall after being a bigtime goal scorer at previous levels. But to assume he’s an overhyped product of having played with Keller on the U18s is wrong and unfair. The previous year, he was USHL rookie of the year, playing for Sioux Falls and leading the team with 33 goals—a league record for 16 year olds. An excellent scorer at Edina HS before that and even scored a pair against Jake Oettinger in the state championship game.

That said, if he’s shown Quinn what he needs to in practice, I’d like to see him on one of the top two lines. Reminiscent of Jason Lawrence, he needs to play with skilled linemates to be productive. He also needs to get his shot on goal much more—though he’s hardly the only Terrier who needs to improve in that area.

I am not questioning his credentials. I am watching his game at BU. It has been shockingly abysmal.. Quinn wants nothing more than for him to be as advertised. It is almost impossible to get scratched on this team as an NHL draft pick and that shows you how truly bad he has been. It says we run the risk of losing you to Major Junior and we don't care.. As for practice in the immortal words of Iverson...."you talkin bout practice"...this team has been better with him in the stands.

Harper has been way off his game, too. And he continues to get rolled out, including on the power play. Harper was terrific the first half, so maybe there in lies the difference.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Bellows' credentials are strong but he wouldn't be the first player to top out at this level. (Scott Perry, Brendan Collier, Sam Kurker). His performance at the WJC might point to him being another square peg in BU's round hole, a la Charlie Coyle. The fact that some of you think the team is better with him in the stands might make the first case more likely.

Agree..Harper's first half has earned him some time...Bellows has earned nothing. A couple of D Men should be running out of time also.

I wasn't around for Perry so can't comment there but Collier most certainly did not have the hype and pre-college career that Bellows had, the same to a lesser degree for Kurker. I don't think the Jason Lawrence comparison is that valid because Lawrence wasn't loaded with obvious raw talent. He was a decent scorer who could find his way to the right spot and be where the puck would end up. Bellows has much better hands, skates better, and has a far superior shot. It's more that it seems he's having difficulty putting the pieces together as opposed to not having an uber-skill player like Kessel or Colin Wilson on his line to tap home some goals.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I see your point regarding Collier. Though he had scored at every level he played at he was never on the USNDT clubs. Perry much the same. Kurker had also produced at every level he played and was a 2nd rd draft pick. Maybe he's the closest comp to Bellows of the bunch.

Far superior skater?..lmfao...yiu do know he's #9 right?

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Jason Lawrence is my son's health teacher and BUtogether is a keeper.

BU Hockey: Where are They Now and Welcome Wagon

far superior was in reference to the shot. brassy typed 'skates better' there.

Ok...skates better?...you do know he's #9 right?....honestly I am stunned..he flat out can't keep up and is a human turnover . I'll file this with the rest of Brass's delusions of almost turnovers and torchings from the locker room...on a serious note...this is the 5th dog crap performance in a row...Time to stop listening to the NHL and coach BU or we are headed for another " I don't know what happened" ending.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Mookie wasn't agreeing with brassy. Mookie was just clarifying- that's all

Than Lawrence? Kieffer's a better skater. My memory of him specifically is a bit hazy but Lawrence was not that good. Far superior probably was accentuating the difference a bit too much. You're really still stuck on Switzer aren't you? He was awful against MC, we've been over this.

Whether or not Bellows is any good is far less of a concern at this point than David Quinn's total inability to coach a hockey team. One would think that would be the focus leading into the Beanpot, because right now this team is a ****ing mess.

A whole lot to work on namely that woeful PP, but fortunately Oettinger has been stellar

so Monday the teams combined on the PP will be 0 for the night then. Eagles 3 for their last 36 and 0-17 last 5 games and .154 for the year. BU's is stellar in comparison
