BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

or Kevin Duane...

You can continue to bring up as many names as you want ...it isn't going to make Bellows any better. He is the perfect example of what can happen when you go team NHL in college hockey. Shame the defense isn't accountable also...anybody want to bet me El Toro de Penalty is still in the line up for the Beanpot?

Not mixing up anything...if you watch these games and you think BU has a shut down defense and Oettinger isn't the reason for the low GAA then ..rolls eyes....perhaps you should watch the Lowell game again.....and yes it is 2017 not 1950 there Bobby Baum...defenseman can score too...sorry the facts don't match up with your Twitter fantasy.

Here is a good one for you Sean since you seem to enjoy numbers.

37 Pro Bowlers in the NFL this year were 3 star or below recruits coming out of high school meaning that if the NFL drafted in the same fashion as the NHL none of them would have been draft picks. Good thing they found schools who don't just play you based on the number of stars next to your name. I assure you the NHL draft would look quite different if they waited a few more years.

"I was pondering this question last night - without Oettinger, is this team above .500? I really don't think they would be."

First, overreaction. Secondly, why does it matter how they would do without Oettinger. How would a lot of teams do without their best player?

It matters because the players in front of him, both forwards and defensemen, were brought here as elite offensive players. 3.11 goals per game isn't cutting it. It takes a special level of incompetence to drag this group down to that level of offensive production.

Beanpot Monday and this thread is on page 2????

On board my flight from Houston, changing in Charlotte. Stuck in the back of the plane in a middle seat next to a guy who's injured. Please think positive thoughts that I make my connection. Planning to head to the Garden when I land!!

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Back on 14 December I posted that I had created and uploaded a workbook with how every BU team did after the first 17 games, the rest of the season and overall. I have updated the spreadsheet with new columns showing how every team did over the next ten games (i.e., games 18-27), but the rest of season columns still reflect all games from 18 on. I've also added a second sheet to the workbook with how every BU team did after the first 27 games, the rest of the season and overall.

Sean

And no team had ever come back from more than 10 points down in the Super Bowl
And no team had ever had an INT returned for a TD against them in the Super Bowl and won

.....

My eyes tell me this BU team needs to get their **** together or they're golfing by March 26th. No matter what previous BU teams did by this date with this record, etc, etc.

Oh I thought they already won the world championship in January...wait that wasn't BU?...I'm guessing team entitlement rolls on hoping Oettinger can steal some trophies...if not DQ can always feign ignorance and blame it on youth.

Who's doing color for Bernie these days? This is the first time I've listened to the radio feed this year.

BU is 3 for 3 against BC, headed to the Beanpot Final, and ranked #3 in the Pairwise. To borrow a phrase from a certain salty old BC fan...

Dope!

Great first period, brutal second period, defensively strong third. Bellows...ugh, awful night for the kid. I'd love to see him succeed here but he's not cutting it. That interference penalty was another level of dumb.

Mark Lenehan (sp?). Not sure if he's the same guy that's the AAD at South Shore Vo-Tech. Gleaned that he played at Latin, but not sure of his other bona-fides.

Not as good a technical color guy as Tommy Ryan, who I really liked, but has some really good off the cuff quips and works well with Bernie. Maybe the qualifications are that you have to give Bernie a ride home. Reminds me of my Dot friends.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Good win for BU. Seemed to fit the mold of the other two wins earlier this season, get a lead, lock down BC and watch the Eagles drool all over themselves.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I was surprised that BU was able to hold on in the third period as well as they did. In both previous games, BC has dominated play in the third, likely due to the physical play in the first two periods. The shot blocking by BU and a couple of dumb BC penalties kept the score in check. On another subject, I felt that the refs let a lot of cheap shots go uncalled.

Nick P. - Love the location reference to Revenge of the Nerds 2. Do you know how to say "Bite my crank" in Seminole?

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Can I be the first one to start the David Quinn to Bruins rumors for the day?

Forget about the Beanpot, which sucked, I am beyond angry right now with the sneaky Bruins and how they handled this and the timing of this firing of Julien with the Pats celebration. Shameful.
