Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

If things continue as they are trending, BU loses by three Monday night.

Regarding the Bellows/Lawrence discussion. Jason Lawrence scored 25 goals his senior year including the winner in the first round of the Beanpot and the winner that sent them to the Frozen Four. John Sabo would be a better comparison. #OverRated

There we go. I was missing the sandbagging for the beanpot tradition.

A whole lot to work on namely that woeful PP, but fortunately Oettinger has been stellar

I was pondering this question last night - without Oettinger, is this team above .500? I really don't think they would be.

First, overreaction. Secondly, why does it matter how they would do without Oettinger. How would a lot of teams do without their best player?

I agree with BUTerriers. Also, there is no way to actually know. However, what I can state is that BU's goals per game average this season is 3.11 and LaCouvee's goals against average this season in limited play is 2.70, better than this career GAA of 2.80. Also remember that Oettinger has 6 of BU's 7 losses this season and both ties. So yes, I do think this team is above .500 without Oettinger. By the way, LaCouvee also has a .921 save percentage this season, quite a bit higher than his .905 career save percentage.

Furthermore, has been discussed in this thread earlier this season, BU has primarily used one goalie quite often over the past 20 seasons. You could make the same statement for all of those seasons (and maybe you did, I don't recall).

Sean gets me. BU will be lucky to score a goal but at least our graduates have a functional level of reading comprehension.

Than Lawrence? Kieffer's a better skater. My memory of him specifically is a bit hazy but Lawrence was not that good. Far superior probably was accentuating the difference a bit too much. You're really still stuck on Switzer aren't you? He was awful against MC, we've been over this.

Not stuck on anything other than how laughable your analysis is...Bellows flat out can't keep up. I'm not sure I've seen a worse skater at the D1 level. And again we have quite a different definition of awful..I like players who score goals and don't get scored on...keep drinking the NHL kool aid slappy

Not sure it's fair to compare Bellows as a Freshman with Lawrence as a Senior. I think Lawrence had a decent freshman season (he had the great initial rush on the OT GWG with Higgins and Yip to take down BC in the HE Championship), but I know he didn't have near 25 goals. Better than Bellows, comparing both as freshmen? I would say yes, but not by as big a margin.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Back on 14 December I posted that I had created and uploaded a workbook with how every BU team did after the first 17 games, the rest of the season and overall. I have updated the spreadsheet with new columns showing how every team did over the next ten games (i.e., games 18-27), but the rest of season columns still reflect all games from 18 on. I've also added a second sheet to the workbook with how every BU team did after the first 27 games, the rest of the season and overall.

Not sure but what Oettinger's great play does allow is the false narrative that BU's defense is elite....points contributed by defenseman before this weekends games...Providence 79...Lowell 78...BC 75.........BU 51....facts not Twitter and Freep bs

I don't know what BU's D looks like against others, but they were exceptional in both games vs BC. They knocked down a ton of shots and passes that never got to Oettinger. Different results in those games if they didn't, IMO.

78 shots did get through...Oettinger stopped 77 of them...also a ton of BC miscues on odd man rushes...different results in those games if he doesn't IMO. McAvoy gave up 3 two on one's in the first period at Conte...but he's a first round draft pick and BC didn't score so it never happened .

As a freshman Lawrence played all 40 games for BU and had 8-14-22 with 3 PPG and 1 GWG. So far this season Bellows has played in 23 games and has 4-4-8 with 2 PPG. On a per game basis Lawrence had 0.20-0.35-0.55 and Bellows currently has 0.17-0.17-0.35.

Lawrence played 7 games on the first line, in which he had 2-5-7, well he played the remaining 33 games on the third line and had 6-9-15. He also played 22 games on the same line and only played on 8 different lines all season. In comparison Bellows has played 8 games on the first line, in which he has 2-2-4, well he has played 10 games on the second line, 2 on the third and 3 on the fourth. He has also played on 11 different lines to date and the most games he has played together with the same line combination is five.

Never saw Lawrence...don't have to..Bellows is brutal ...can't skate..can't stay up on his feet...can't defend and won't be here long...And it's not the coaches fault or what line he is on...Quinn has gone above and beyond with chances for the kid...BU is better with him in the stands

There you go again mixing up offense and defense...

Not mixing up anything...if you watch these games and you think BU has a shut down defense and Oettinger isn't the reason for the low GAA then ..rolls eyes....perhaps you should watch the Lowell game again.....and yes it is 2017 not 1950 there Bobby Baum...defenseman can score too...sorry the facts don't match up with your Twitter fantasy.
