BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I actually thought his play at the WJCs was overrated. His 2 goal game was huge, but he didn't do much else besides that. I was happy for him, but didn't think he was necessarily going to be a completely changed player.

Sure, he wasn't a star, but I thought he looked like he belonged and never seemed over-matched. In short, he didn't seem to be a negative on the ice. Whereas at BU, I think he's playing poorly or, at best, is unnoticeable out there.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I'm certainly concerned about how the team is performing, but I'll just throw this out there....

BU started the week at PWR #3 and ended the week at PWR #3. Let's hope the damage has stopped! Onwards and upward.

If memories serves Jack Parker benched a very talented young player who in Parker's mind not playing up to his potential and who later went on win both the Hobey Baker and NHL Calder trophies. Chris Drury's father drove up from Conn. to console his son who had never been benched before. The rest is history.
They don't produce many Chris Drurys Tough to compare anybody to Drury or Jack Parker.....a coach that took good, better and best talent and got a team to play together. Now BU just best talent. Quinn hopes they learn to play together every night....especially in March APRIL

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

This group of forwards have zero chemistry. When was the last time they made two passes that resulted in a goal?

Bellows is gone. I hope he makes it to the end of the season.

Great game for the big O tonight. Without him they lose 5-2. He was the #1 star.

Oettinger stole those two points. It is what big game goalies do.

Harper has hit a wall. And he should never be back on the point of the powerplay. He is a major liability there, defensively. Move him back up.

I was surprised that Harper was back in the lineup, and Bellows out, after the second Merrimack game. Harper's nonchalance that led to Merrimack's shorthanded goal should have resulted in some bench time. Harper has had a terrific freshman campaign, but he has been off the boil lately.

I do not understand why Quinn won't play Bellows with Keller. They have had a terrific chemistry whenever they have played together. Yet they really haven't done that at BU. If Bellows is to break out, it is much more likely to happen with Keller than without. And we can see Greenway with JFK. That could get Greenway going again, too.

I hope that Bellows isn't another Coyle or Greer, who feels he needs to go somewhere else to get going. Even though he has been a disappointment, so far, he still has more to offer than the majority of BU's forwards. He needs to be a top-six forward.

Roberto and Curry are good third line guys. Cloonan is a great skater with very very little production. Chabot is a nice find.
The rest are interchangeable grinders, at best.

McAvoy needs to get some consistency back. The next level won't be calling until some consistency is added to his physical gifts. How many times has Krys bailed him out? That is what a good pair does, though. Same with Fabbro and Hickey.

BU has the big game goalie and the talent on the blueline. The forwards are sore spot at the moment, other than Keller, Carpenter and JFK (who had his first bad games against Merrimack, but otherwise has been excellent).

I'm getting tired of hearing how highly skilled BU forwards are. If my math is right, they are 8th in hockey east in goals per game.

If he's only good when feeding off Keller is he really that good? The kid is all hype and seems to help the team out more when he's in a suit. The longer this goes the more it looks like Keller is really good and Bellows was good at being in the right spot so that the puck could bounce off him properly. He doesn't seem to play well at a level where he's not perceived to be a cut above the rest. He won't do work on the boards, he won't help defensively and he doesn't score. Keep him on the bench, send him to the USHL, whatever. Bellows needs to do a lot more work and put in more effort on the ice if he's ever going to be half as good as he was "supposed" to be, and I'm still not convinced he was as good as everyone hyped him to be.

Top end heavy. On paper, your 3rd and 4th lines don't do much. Has there even been trouble settling on who that 6th forward is? Assumed Bellows but that hasn't worked. Definitely expected BU to be a better offensive team than they have been.

Hope the Olsson kid is okay. I was at the game Friday, but could not see the hit down in the far corner.

Rankings are out, dropped to #3. That's generous. Though, I didn't really pay attention to how everyone else did.

If they work well together, does it really matter which one is more responsible for the success? They have an excellent track record together. Why not give it a chance. And it might help Greenway with JFK, too.
Curry and Cloonan are not first line material.
Curry hits and works and works, and is what you want on a third line. Cloonan is a great skater, but his lack of production is truly shocking. It does not appear it is due to a lack of effort. He is snake bit. Quinn needs to find that snake and cut its head off, because it is biting Cloonan over and over again.

Playing at the World Juniors against younger players. Now playing against older and more experienced players.

Totally agree with that- Bellows despite not showing much early was still selected for junior team and played ahead of Harper. Obviously it is not working with Quinn but it is his job to make it work
Reminds me of last year with AJ Greer who right now is playing in AHL all star game-

We're getting to the point of the season where I suspect a lot of the voters just go the current PWR as their guide. Hence 3rd.

Apathy has set in... (Someone go find an "Apathy Buster." I ain't 'fraid of no Minuteman.)

The dreaded Friday before the Beanpot - playing a lousy opponent game. I hear Bellows is out of the doghouse. I'd love to see him skate with Keller.

BU Hockey: Bored

Do you remember the comic strip Matchstick that was in the Freep when we were in school? He did a whole week series on Apathy-Buster Busters. I still have the compilation book they gave us at Senior Breakfast when I graduated. Too funny.

Yeah, awfully quiet here. Hoping the team isn't looking ahead to Monday. A loss tonight would be disastrous. The Freep reported some of the team had the flu this week.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

This. Why not? Nothing else is working.

I have to agree, hope he gets a slot alongside JFK and Bobo/Harper. I wouldn't go as far as to say nothing else is working, but Curry and Cloonan are much better suited as third liners, especially with Olsson out. Both have excelled in that slot.
